That was just a scam by the Private Equity firm that bought the chain. The PE firm also owned a shrimp farm in Thailand. They basically raped Red Lobster by forcing the restaurant chain to buy their Thai shrimp to send all the money overseas to that farm where it couldn't be clawed back by a bankruptcy court. Then they bankrupted themselves out of having to pay the RL debt at all.

Does anyone know if the same PE firm still owns Red Lobster, or did they get forced to sell the chain to new ownership? What about the restaurant locations, are they still owned by a shell corporation that leases them back to the chain, and is that shell corporation also owned by the same PE firm?

You notice the menu doesn't specify the amount or weight of any of those items, does it retard? I've been to a decent few places that specifically do seafood boil and the only decent ones are honest enough to tell you how much of the eyecatching items each bag includes. Even the shrimp, especially the shrimp, vary greatly in size. Just marking them off as a number is a sure sign that you're getting ripped off, and you specifically will go back because you don't know any better.
Even the better restaurants that do seafood boil on demand miss the point anyway, eating this style of food in a restaurant setting.

The only other option is buffets, where the crab is inferior and you have to elbow through people surrounding the crab area like hyenas and grabbing as many as they can when a new tray comes out.
