There was a brief boom (at least in NYC) but it seems to have died out. We even had a few Pie Face locations at one point.

You can find it in some places. There's a restaurant in Chicago with a few locations called Bangaroos Aussie Pies. Supposedly it's authentic but very few Americans would actually be about to tell. They have to explain on their website what an Aussie Pie is and how to eat it.

We dont have sausage rolls. Corn dogs would probably be the closest thing to that.
Most pies with meat here are like chicken pot pie. Ground meat isnt used for pies much in the USA. I tried FourAndTwenty pies and they were fuckin awful. I would love to try an Aussie meat pie thats betwr quality.

Gilbert Gottfried opened a Pie Face store in NYC. He was a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice. It went out of business pretty quickly because of Trump I guess

US has a cultural blindspot because they think that stuff is boring white people food and assume they already have all the good stuff but they DON"T. really miss the pies, pasties, sausage rolls, and pork pies available in UK.

The winning gourmet pie of the Australia's Best Pie contest last year was a "Jack Daniel's BBQ pulled beef with mac & cheese"
That sounds pretty American to me.

We have empanadas everywhere in the US with Hispanic influence, which are always delicious. Then in the freezer aisle you can find chicken or beef pot pies, which are actually pretty good bang for your buck, a filling $1.50 snack.
Then of course in the Upper Midwest there's the ubiquitous Cornish Pasty, sold by roadside stands and restaurants in every town. Pretty bland unless you have copious ketchup or hot sauce.

Every Walmart has a hot & ready food station right up front by the register. It will have fried chicken sandwiches, egg rolls, empanadas, corn dogs, popcorn chicken, burgers, pizza slices, etc. all for less than $3 an item.

Like the Brits, we have enough Jamaicans here to have Jamaican beef patties nearly everywhere, including every grocery freezer section and Golden Crust location (caribbean takeout). Same pastry, great from the oven or fresh from a heater case, everywhere, from the gas station to specific vendors. They come mild, spicy hot, and vegetable. If you're lucky, you'll get a plantain edition too. Regional cuisine includes "hand pies" which might be peach this time of year. Around christmastime, there are eggnog custard versions, from Popeyes, not just apple pies.

We seem to be missing the pork pie, for sure.

It's not just about the food, it's about the culture
Most Australians bakeries are in shopping centers that are near to other shops
So Australians are prone to stopping off at the bakery after they go to Woolies or the butcher/fruit and veg
Americans don't have "shopping center culture", they get their groceries either from big outlet chains or the local corner store
Both of those places have their own dedicated hot food stations that you can buy food from
So there's really no room for meat pies or sausage rolls in their fast-food ecosystem

They really aren't. They are horrible. They taste like nothing. The filling is always super hot and will fuck up your mouth. They use to have a crispy sleeve but we're peasants and don't deserve nice things so they pretended like they got rid of it for us.

Hot pockets were never good, but they used to at least taste like industrial pepperoni. Now they taste like flour paste.

We don't have bong style meat pies but we have stuff like empanadas in several parts of the country which are similar. There are also places on the east coast that have Jamaican beef patties. It's all regional, however. You won't be able to go to a rural area in the middle of the country and find any of that. They'll have pot pies at a diner, though.

For me, it's Myers of Keswick in the West Village. They have it all: pork pies, sausage rolls, Cornish pasties, chicken & leek pies, steak & ale pies, you name it. And a nice dry goods section with HP sauce, Branston, Colman's, Tiptree ketchup, etc if you want.

We also have an Aussie chain called Bourke Street Bakery whose sausage rolls are a little different. They make their own ketchup. Tasty stuff, love their pies too. And over in Queens there's Butcher Block which is primarily an Irish store, they have their own sausage rolls too.

Texan here, they're not like aus/bong sausage rolls. They're Kolaches or Klobasnek, in a yeast roll rather than puff pastry and often have cheese and/or jalapeno.
