In college I worked at a tiny convenience store nearby campus. It was fairly busy, but it was also cozy when it was sometimes vacant for 30min to an hour at a time. As long as I stocked everything properly, cleaned up, and balanced the cash register at the end of the night, I was never lectured. My manager even let me listen to music on the job and he overlooked my breaking the dress code. Sometimes I'd just be sitting in the outside lobby in a cushy chair, reading a book with a cup of coffee in the natural light while waiting for a customer. Getting paid for that felt like a little tease of heaven.
And he had the greatest policy ever regarding employee meals:
>anytime we're hungry or thirsty, anything in the store is fair game >anything in the warmer that hasn't been sold by its due date can be eaten or taken home or thrown away >anything that expires in the store can be taken home under the guise of being thrown away >we can take one food item and one drink home at the end of a shift I think I sampled every single thing in the store across my few years working there. This included Pizza Rolls, Hot Pockets, and Bagel Bites.
The Hot Pocket is probably the best value, but as everything in the store was virtually the same price for me, I didn't care about that. I only picked up the Pizza Rolls once since they were smaller in comparison to the Bagel Bites, but Bagel Bites aren't that good either. It's just a mound of toasted bagel bread with some tomato and cheese on it. Pizza Rolls weren't memorable enough to even recall the taste or experience.
In terms of "vaguely Mediterranean leavened flatbread savory dish" I like gyros the best. So I would get these frozen ones, but beware, by themselves they are utter trash. The meat is a literal tiny rectangle once you heat it up. But if you've prepared some meat beforehand, they can be added into this and it really hits the spot with sour cream.
