All that precision goes out the window because your grounds sit in the water the whole time.

>>21513923>If you are stuck with a grind that is not suited for your pourover method, brewing it with an immersion brew is likely to yield you better results. So poors with blade grinders and pre-ground buyers?
>>21513909>bogansnot round these parts
bogans are plans dwellers and coastal nomads
>>21513949Sorry I meant skippy poofters.
>>21513943No. At which point did he say that the pourover yielded an objectively better result? He tested with every grind level and it never happened.
>>21513943>My method is better because... it costs more money and it's harder to do even though it doesn't necessarily have any benefit over other simpler methods, and I know this because people told me on an anime forum and I've never tested it myself, I mean like r u poor or something lol
>>21513959fair enough, carry on then.
>>21513898>there's an entire culture of accumulating rancid oil.I just throw mine in the dishwasher after each use. Not my favorite brew method, but it can make a large quantity at once.
>>21513963That's a word for word quote from his conclusion. If you can't adjust your grind, throwing coffee in water and waiting is likely to yield something more drinkable than trying to fuck with a very channeled pourover. Like if your stuck camping with a makeshift mortar and pestle or someone gave you a bag of pre-ground espresso for Christmas.
>>21513977That's not at all what I'm saying. Grinders have gotten absurdly cheap over the last few years. A sub $50 grinder will give you a decent cup with enough range to dial in anything.
>I've never tested it myselfFrench presses are very cheap. I think I paid $9/for the one I don't use from Aldi.
>>21513990>That's a word for word quote from his conclusion. If you can't adjust your grind, throwing coffee in water and waiting is likely to yield something more drinkable than trying to fuck with a very channeled pourover. And the reason for that was that the pourover did not yield a superior result at any point, while the immersion brew did. When the grind size was not ideal the pourover turned into shit while the immersion was still at least okay. You're trying to act like what he said was some kind of "win" for pourover, when the reason behind it was that the pourover never beat the immersion at any grind level. They make coffee that tastes different, but neither one is better or worse and it just comes down to preference. But pourover is more finicky and prone to failing, and does not produce something superior unless you just personally prefer the way it tastes.
>>21513963>I hope this is going to be a useful little tip, a little trick, a little hack to have in the toolbox should you end up with coffee ground in a way that you don't want it to be groundSeems pretty cut and dry.

I bought some Australian beans because I desperately want local coffee to be good. The smell of the beans was very nut forward with something that I couldn't place. Actually brewing the coffee and it becomes the dominant smell and I figured out what it is - garden hose water. Refreshing shady winter's garden hose water. >>21518487>why did you do that if you live by yourself? That was what /ck/ advised. It fits my routine ok on regular days: I get enough coffee to last from breakfast to lunch time (my travel mug does an admirable job at maintaining its temperature until then).
>or you are really guilable or you have room-temperature IQI've read the sticky, watched many videos on the Moka pot and a few grinder reviews. It's never hinted that grinder capacity should be considered. No one here mentioned it either when I asked about what Moka-grinder combo to get, so why should I have supposed it would be an issue?
>>21518495>How so?6 cup moka doesnt make 6 cups

>>21518503I know a 6-cup Moka doesn't make 6 mugs of coffee. It's still too much for one serving (in most cases - I have resorted to it on occasion). My grinder is the Kingrinder P2. As far as I can tell, its capacity is very typical of reasonably-priced hand grinders. It takes considerably longer than a minute to grind the full capacity of the Moka pot. It is by far the most irritating part of the workflow, but I do it regularly.

but pills are the cheapest and easiest

How much do you pay for your coffee at home monthly? Specifically looking for answers from people who aren't well off and can splurge on pricey stuff. If you can, also mention how many grams you use a day.
I've been exclusively buying beans and grinding them at home to use with my french press. I use ~30g everyday, I buy a 500g bag for ~$16 USD which lands me at roughly ~$32 USD monthly where I live.
Bonus round: am I overpaying or underpaying for this coffee?

I actually liked that one better, but it was a bit outside my budget (a bag of 250g was running me ~$16 USD)
>>21525349I thought low altitude was <1000m? Med alt being 1000-1200, high alt being 1200-1500, and very high alt being 1500+
What I'm understanding is that french pressing is way more forgiving towards mediocre beans due to it being an immersion technique, yes? What's the upper end of "nice" coffee you'd use on a french press before it's a waste of money?
>>21525215>>>Price: ~$16 USD for 500gthat's really cheap
usually my beans are around 23usd for 200g for the good stuff
i mainly do pourover and very rarely aeropress though
>>21525394>I thought low altitude was <1000m? Med alt being 1000-1200, high alt being 1200-1500, and very high alt being 1500+there is not really any official range
>>21525272You can use them as decoration
Sticking your hand into a jar full of beans is also nice
>>21525394>I thought low altitude was <1000m? Med alt being 1000-1200, high alt being 1200-1500, and very high alt being 1500+Thank you for letting us know what you thought.

>>21513949>plans dwellersoops i meant plains
:)
>>21525394>I thoughtDensity creates flavor. Elevation creates density. Also slows growth. Couple hundred meters is the difference between fruit and nuts. Anything below ~1800m is "low" with interesting microclimates and "terroir" influencing that. I've had some real cool stuff from Lake Atitlan, Guatamala where they get almost island like conditions with the precipitation and breeze carrying up the mountains. Lowest I drink on a regular basis is finca soledad(low 1500s), up in an Ecuadoran cloud forest with some fucked up biodiversity and a bunch of extra moisture to the plants through constant fog.
>>21525614>Elevation creates density. Also slows growthin the interest of pedantry id point out that the slowed growth is what creates the density
anyway this colombian pink bourbon came out pretty good today, v60'd again but with a long, cool bloom at 70c, 90c main pour, a slightly coarser grind, and a 1:15 ratio. three main pours again, low agitation. much better balance of acidity and sweetness for my taste, and a bit of florality, too.
hows your brew(s) going, anons?
>>21525656can you slow growth outside of elevation?
can you grow coffee at sea level but in a pressurized environment to create a slower growth?
or something like that
>>21525215Gifted pot
Water bill is like $50 including electricity and showers and dishes and clothes
Lidl light roast says Germany on it is like $7
Milk is like $10/mo
So ~$30/mo probably
I could drink this stuff black but it's so fucking hot
>>21525665i believe its been shown that the primary reason elevation slows growth is the decreased temperature, which is why island coffee that gets lots of cooling ocean wind can create relatively dense coffee at lower elevations. air pressure and ambient oxygen probably does play a role however. anyway you would need a lower-pressure environment to mimic the atmospheric density of higher elevations, not a higher one. wouldnt really be practical but it would be an interesting experiment
>>21525676you over filled it
also
where is the handle?
how do you pick it up off the stove?
welp

I also find it hard to believe this dude has 2.7k people paying him $8k a month on Patreon to endlessly shill coffee gadgets, but then again his existence proves fools love to be parted with their money.
>wonder why my kettle turns off before it reaches 100c
>remember boiling point goes down the higher the altitude
mystery solved :)
juicy strawberry is so good

Does your setup allow you to make coffee in a zombie apocalypse?
>>21526134yes but my setup is better than yours
(i do like that carafe tho)

>>21526134Why yes, it does, and it's metal not wood/glass!
>>21526134I'd run my gear off solar but I don't want to short out the sun :/
