not really. I work in payroll software implementation, and it prevents new employees in places with high turnover from just abusing it and leaving.
Lots of states mandate that you earn .0333 hours of sick time for every 1 hour you work. If you work full time, that comes out to 69.3 hours. This is also fair for someone who works part time. Most places I've set up allow for a limited amount of that earned time to be carried over into the next year.

There is a difference between saving money and living like you are poor as shit.
This may come as a huge shock to you but many cheaper things break fast and need replacements.
For example spending 30 dollars on tools at harbor freight that break the 3rd time you use them isn't a good use of money versus a set of hollow ground screw drivers made of hardened steel.
