Need hand grinder.
Requirements:
>32 g capacity or greater
>Suitable for both Moka pot and Aeropress
>External adjustment
Currently using a Kingrinder P2 and happy with how the grinds work in my Moka pot, but the capacity is too small. The internal adjustment is also unergonomic for frequent use, as would be required if I start switching back and forth with an Aeropress.
Recommendations? The Kingrinder K6 is attractively priced, though the stated capacity of 30 g gives me cause for concern. Probably it would be fine, as the P2 goes a bit over its stated capacity, but I'm open to alternatives.

not sure about that buddy
i use one and usually grind 18 g every day, and it fills ups way above middle of the cup (medium roast)

Had baby's first french press experience earlier.

Bought a stainless steel double walled one for $20 on sale a No. 4 Italian inspired roast. It's the best coffee I've ever had, been using freeze dried my whole life.

There is probably better coffee out there, but this work for me for the foreseeable it's amazing.

I had one of the cheap double walled ones but they're not vacuum insulated and lose heat quickly. There's another double filter press that has no grounds (espro?) but it's just too much of a hassle to clean. All I want is a large aeropress for making batches.

I've had a baratza and while the automation is quite nice it has a tendency to spill. Like all of the grounds don't go directly into the basket, and then you have to knock it around or get some kind of hopper that lets you pump air into it to try and push the last of the grounds out of it, which if you aren't careful are just going to spill more.

My grinder was also made in china. Well Honk Kong but still. It was also made, sold, aligned, and DHL'd to my door by the 3 engineers who own the company. Bit of a difference. I'm literally describing Turin's(and others) business model. He places an order, then sells that shipment at a discount while the grinders are on a freighter. Once they arrive he sticks shipping labels on for those who preordered. Any unsold units from the batch go on the site for a higher, non preorder price.
>DF54's are preorder only with an expected arrival of End of August. Only black. White pre-orders will start mid August with expected deliver early September. Limited shipment, will sell out fast. Pre-order pricing

See how that retarded logic works, dumdum? I literally do not care who designed, built, or aligned the product I bought, AS LONG AS IT WORKS AS ADVERTISED. So far (9 months in), my grinder works just fine. But hey, keep copin' & seethin' if it helps soothe the sting of your buyer's remorse, faggot.

ok got a good look at the sticker on the back of the grinder
"mazzer luigi srl mini electronic"
im sure it goes under many names and has a 100 iterations over the years.

and the ECM giotto is a goliath sitting in my tiny kitchen
heats up in about 10-15 minutes
water coming out seems clean and clear, i haven't drunk anything from the machine yet
just filled it with filtered water and then filled the drip tray 3 times by just letting water run through the group head and hot water wand? faucet? and then the steam wand
and then filled it up with more water, and ill leave it to sit over night
all the levers/switches/dials/springs are very used
either its on a hair trigger or its nothing nothing nothing full flow
and its pretty loud
and kinda annoying it reengages the pump and boiler every single time you do anything for any amount of time
like i get it but i wish the threshold was higher

came with a portafilter, small basket and a large basket(i think the large is a 22g but i have no idea what the smaller one is, probably just the default basket that came with the machine) and a force tamper, but no retention clip for the basket so it doesnt sit properly which means when i put it in the group head and turn on the flow water doesnt always go through the basket, sometimes it can go around the basket so i will need to buy some clips.

but they are vst baskets which is nice.

also i just did some test fitting/placement of my scale and loveramics 70ml Twisted Glass Coloured Green
and not alot of space really
i understand that the idea of putting a scale underneath the group head to measure the espresso coming out was not even close to a consideration to any manufacture until pretty recently so i dont blame them but yeh, not used to having things so cramped and "on the edge"

i have no idea what im going to do with the grinder
its so big and so heavy and so old and i already have a great grinder(flat vs conical thoughBeit)
idk, i'll leave it for tomorrow i guess.

>take a picture of a machine made entirely of stainless steel polished to a mirror finish
mmmmmmmm nah
well maybe if i find a way to not get caught in a reflection
maybe the grinder as its mostly not reflective.
also the accessories that came with it will work and are clean but idk im a bit of a bastard when it comes to second hand or old stuff
especially if handling it
so i might spring for brand new baskets/handle/tamper
and get ones that will fit flair 58 too(as ill probably get that in the future when i send this gear back)
but who knows, i havent even pulled a shot yet so this is all meaningless talk.

also i wonder how much cost/work it would take to just replace all the fittings on the ecm
they all work but feel very bad to me

f58 should take any "standard" e61 two eared portafilter. I've got a normcore(3 in 1) and a decent. Ear pitch and thickness can vary though. All 3 of my pfs "lock in" at a different spot.

well i think it was more about the handle being too thick on some pf that it couldnt lock in to the f58 so some people had to cut into theirs to make it fit
im sure its not a huge problem but the fact it can happen is cause for concern(at least for me)
like imagine if i spend say $150 now and then a year from now i have a flair and it doesnt fit properly
that would be so shit

also if i just bought a new pf the retention clip would come with it right?
and im assuming they are universal in shape/size, a "one size fits all" for any and all basket sizes/types as long as it its 58mm

Yep, depending on the threading. My normcore and decent are swappable, my (original launch) flair58 isn't. No clue if they've changed it since.
>also why are there such tiny differences in tampers? 58/58.5/58.55
Tampers used to(and still do) fit like shit and leave grounds untamped on the walls. I believe Pullman was the first to upsize and match their tampers to baskets. I've got a 58.4mm "Jarrah Barista" with matching stand. Their bigsteps are .55 and I think they had a sharp edge .58 in the past. If I were a proud aussie, I'd be supporting Pullman. Absurdly expensive compared to more recent chinese shit, but Mark is a good dude. Designed and made in Adelaide.

This seal prevents any leaks or pressure loss during the brewing process, ensuring that water flows through the coffee grounds evenly and consistently.
Replace that old fucked up grouphead gasket so the LIP of the baskets seal better and don't leak. That little retention clip isn't SEALING anything. Basket lip sits on portafilter, basket lip mates to gasket, portafilter ears wedge it in tight creating a seal.

and its mostly out of focus
but i think it looks pretty cool
so yeh stalled like a mother fucker, probably took 2 minutes of slowly dripping out
and it channeled(obviously)
tasted like i got dumped an ash tray in my mouth and sucked on a freshly polished leather boot
very very intense flavor
i sipped it and then poured it out
simply undrinkable

also i decided that i already know how to use my hg1p so i might as well just start pulling shots instead of spending a day or 2 dialing in that mazzer
the next 2 shots i drank
ill upload those later if you are interested
2 18g in 30g out espresso shots back to back + a 30g 6 cup moka for lunch has totally fucked me up
anyway
second shot way more drinkable(went 4 coarser so from 4.1 to 8.1)
more sweet but also bitter(not like gross bitter but good bitter y'know?)
and the third shot is sitting half drunk next to me because i started feeling strange after a couple sips
also i have had almost no food today so thats probably why...
anyway it tastes more or less the same
oh and i went from 8.1 to 11.1(still channeled) but had more chocolate notes
i wanted to keep going but my body told me to do it tomorrow....

oh and im drinking Daddy's Girl from padre (that other aus anon who is around here sometimes has raved about it being great for espresso so i decided ill do it for him)

dialing in espresso is WAY faster and WAY more fun than pour over or moka at least from these first 3 shots
also if its shit or you just need a taste and move on fuck it its only 30g, chuck it in the sick and pull another shot.
oh and pre-infusion on the giotto is so easy, very fun to do and to watch the bottomless basket as you use the lever(is that the word for it?)

My dumbass didn't recognize the same strawberry note across the beans of several "we're so hip; we're soooo cool!" roasters in the region
until a friend who knows a roaster told me that it's an additive appealing to the masses, the same way those ubiquitous 4 chords are employed in mass market music.
That is, you can glam-up a mediocre roast with the same strawberry additive.

The shittiest thing is that the only decent roaster in the region only does medium and dark, which isn't bad, but I'd like some brightness and variety.
All of the others with "specialty light roasts" do the strawberry shit.

made some
first shot was too coarse but it didnt channel
too astringent and not enough flavor
i think it was 12.1
so i made it into a long black(filled a glass with fresh boiling water from my kettle and dumped the shot on top, i could have used the hot water faucet from my giotto but i dont really trust water from it or from the steam wand yet)
maybe i used too much water(35g shot into 300ml of 90c water) but it just tastes like water to me(just before posting i looked it up and yes i put way too much water in, ill try again another time)

then on my second shot i went down to 11.4 and put a filter paper on top(just wanted to see personally how it works) i had from like 3 years ago aeropress micro papers(i bought it for my moka, i have never owned an aeropiss) and i thought i remembered people saying they fit 58mm baskets but this did not so i had to (badly) cut it to fit(im going to try putting one on the bottom tomorrow)
and this was a longer shot, about 48g because it just looked so good coming out it felt a shame to cut it "early"
and yeh much better taste, still astringent but only a bit in the throat, none in the mouth
still not as flavorful as i would like
the notes i did get are burnt marshmallow and a little nutmeg
so not bad overall.
good progression from yesterday i think
i also measured the temp of the water coming out and it was just over 90c
and then my shot in the cup was 60c
is this normal?
also i fear the flow rate of my machine might be too low so im going to try and measure that but my scale is a bit to big to comfortably sit on the drip tray
i guess i could fill a cup and time it and then pour that water into a cup on the scales and then i would know i have x water in y time and then figure out the ml/s from there.
thanks for reading my blog :)
