This is the better way to do it if the setting is actually employing Christian themes outside of the 7 deadly sins.
Because those aren't meant to be "sinful" on their own (everyone engages in them from time to time) but rather serve as a door for people to lose themselves in more heinous sins.
But for settings that either don't take itself too seriously or don't want to use Christian/catholic themes as a base of their narratives the "Embody the sin through their behaviors" is a more efficient and simple way to portray it.

Im still miffed with how they're didn't touch Shadowlands at all for Arthas. I get that its still a weird area to go to (mainly due to Blizzard being Blizzard with their writing), but Frostmorne being made by the Primus (one of the four, and arguably the most powerful, leaders of the afterlife) should have made it the stronger between it and Sauron's mace. Frostmorne itself was only broken when Tirion, then the strongest paladin possibly on Azaroth wielded the Ashbringer, literally the strongest weapon of light, and being directly blessed by the Light just before striking, literally everything had to play in their favor just to defeat Arthas. You have two cultures, both with their own religions.
