I hate to admit it because I hate modern rick and morty and part of me kinda wants every episode to be ass to validate my emotions, but it was pretty good.

Thank god I'm not a woman so I can look past my feelings and be objective to things. They also broke the formula a bit by not having a grand action scene in the third act, instead focusing on the more goofy chase scene. I also was expecting bearded Jerry to betray our Jerry but in the end it never truly happened, it was more our jerry fucking things up but not in a malicious way.

The joke of everyone in their universe having a 5 o'clock beard also was pretty amusing. And this Multiverse travel was cool and actually feel whimsical because Jerry saw things as cool and interesting. I feel like if it was Morty or any other family member they would be lampshading the entire time or bringing it up how retarded things are. And anything else would feel out of character to them because they do it so much by now.

It was good and fun and it was interesting seeing a protagonist having to solve issues outside their control because they are not gods or cyborgs full of tech up their asses or can not kung fu fight their way out of it. Just use things they learned in the episode to get alway from their situation, it felt rewarding watching and their growth and what happens was meaningful.

I thought yesterday's episode was paced more like a Cartoon Network than an Adult Swim. Characters are constantly excited about the adventure they're on, there's several genuinely heartfelt scenes, nobody dies but there's still conflict, the main character has to use what little knowledge and resources they have to solve the problem rather than a high tech gadget, the final chase scene revolves around losing the heat rather than fighting them, and so on. Drug addict Rick is just about the only thing Adult Swim here.
Very different from Rick and Morty's usual style but I thought it worked well here.

One of the good qualities of the series after season 4 is them scaling back on this "Jerry is a slimy parasite" running gag. It felt ham-fisted and like they had to find a reason to make him the bad guy in his plots and the others' treatment towards him justified, and it got old very fast.

Him being kind of slow and incompetent but still well meaning and trying to do cliche sitcomy activities with his family and them being too jaded to care but still occasionally indulging him is 100% better than them just piling on him endlessly like season 2 and 3 and that camping episode.

That episode was trying to paint him in a sympathetic light though. We're supposed to see Summer's rant at him as abusive and not a YAS QUEEN moment of awesome, her and Morty are served some humble pie in the form of the hell they go through immediately after rejecting Jerry's attempts to be a loving father that imparts useful camping skills onto them, and Rick, the cool sci-fi grandpa she idolizes immediately throws her and Morty under the bus at the end of the episode. To add insult to injury, Summer can't even find satisfaction in Jerry "admitting" that he deserved to be called out for wanting love and respect from his family and the episode almost ends, had it not been for the aforementioned Rick being an asshole sellout, in a complete role reversal from the beginning where Jerry is happy while Morty and Summer are sad and defeated.

Summer is for Morty!

I had fun with this jerry episode, I like jerry these days a lot, the entire family is pretty fun I love them all. Summer is the one that feels the most 'half-baked' lately I dare say, like she doesn't have a completely defined character or something I guess. She does whatever the episode wants.
Rickmort overwall was still pretty fun this season, even if not crazy or anything, I liked it a lot
Loli beth was sexy, good design they chose

Jerry stays best character. It's kind of like they took the Jerryboree b-plot and stretched it into a full episode. Not making all the dimensions joke dimensions also adds to the comfiness. I think in the writing room they meant to have Jerry's small talk with Rick be more of a breaking point but at this point in the series Jerry and Rick have had enough bonding episodes that this type of plot doesn't work as well. That, and having Rick being "nicer" makes it so that the inciting event feels halfhearted. They could've foreshadowed the "twist" better by having Mooch talk about his kids instead of just having Jerry recap previous episodes.

Not looking forward to Morty Jr. but maybe they'll do something interesting with it.

I really liked the episode. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. By far the best episode of the season. No over-the-top jokes, no absurd violence, and good character development. One of the best episodes of the series.

Did anybody else feel a little anxious watching this episode? Notice some people here saying that it was surprisingly wholesome and tame and that's what got me, Rick and Morty rarely has episodes like that. When Summer gets crapped on in the episodes where she alone has to save Rick and Morty it's great. When she gets crapped on period it's great. I still remember the voice actress contributed to getting Roiland fired during that debacle in that she backed the side that was proven wrong and then never publicly walked back her negative outlook of Roiland. I'd have found a way to dramatically reduce Summer's screen presence as well if I were betrayed by someone I considered a friend like that. But this is just me being offended on someone else's behalf.

Summer still works as a character. I've personally disliked her in that one episode where she shat on Jerry for taking them all camping on that alien world. The "joke" was that Summer is "spending too much time with Rick" but it really, truly made her hate Summer for tearing into Jerry the way that she did. Especially when all he's trying to do is bridge a gap and connect to his family. The only saving grace to that awful episode was Beth defending Jerry's honor at the end of the episode as a wife should.

This was my favorite episode for the past five seasons. Absolute classic. I think focusing on a relatably average person is a lot better for comedy and the sense of wonder one should have for the multiverse. Jerry being a nice, easygoing guy is the cherry on top. And the two Jerries actually learn a lesson along the way and manage to outwit their pursuers without sci-fi gadgets. This episode made me so happy for some reason. I'm completely destressed after watching it. It's like I just got done watching an episode of a CGDCT anime.

Jerry just went on a fun little adventure, made a friend, faced some problems but got through them, and came back to his family which told him they care about him and love him. Even 5'oclock shadow guy had happy moments, he thought his family didn't care for him but they actually did, and now he's off doing his own thing and finding his own happiness. I interpreted as Jerry remembering what Mooch Rick's words were in that he was happy Mooch Jerry was gone. Mooch Beth remarried. Jerry's primary concern was being replaced and forgotten by his family. At the end of the episodes Rick gives him a little tempting push to continue to do what he's doing--but all that would do is ultimately turn Jerry into another Mooch Jerry and doom his happiness. Jerry flips the coaster back over to signal his dimension isn't a safespace and that he isn't willing to gamble the safety and security and future of his family just so he can disappear into the closet and have little adventures.

He's learned his lesson. It's just that Rick wouldn't be Rick is he wasn't playing devil's advocate and trying to nudge Jerry in a negative direction for laughs.

This episode made me so happy for some reason. I'm completely destressed after watching it.
I normally finish an episode of recent Rick and Morty and just feel annoyed. But this one? got me feeling cosy.

I interpret it as us seeing a lot of Ricks that are in different stages of grief. Most Ricks we see have never made it past the anger/bargaining stages, often balls deep in the nihilism, antagonistic and uncaring. We see some who are in the depression phase (our own Rick already went through this, mostly in S6/S7) and then we see Ricks who are already on acceptance like our Rick is now.
I wonder if we'll start to see more Ricks at peace though now that Prime is dead. It's kind of weird that other Ricks haven't approached C-137 about it.

Oh, me too. I absolutely love it when there's NO stupid infidelity or divorce jokes. Just Beth being loving and pleasant toward Jerry who reciprocates. It's like how in the later American Dad episodes oftentimes Stan and Francine are holding hands and cuddled up on the couch or Hayley is leaning into Jeff while watching TV or something. Just little poses that signify how close, affectionate and intimate the characters are. It really speaks volumes. I can buy that Francine and Stan would genuinely like spending time with one another outside of the bedroom or barnstorming a solution to the day's mundane problems. That there's a genuine love there. Beth stepping up for Jerry in front of Rick and constantly defending him will always, always tug my heart positively toward her. I want to kick the shit out of Morty and Summer, Summer especially. And I normally love Summer.
Her rant in this episode was so fucking shitty.
All Jerry wanted to do was spend time with his kids and show them the cool, normal stuff he learned as a kid.
And after she unloaded on him like a total fucking bitch for no reason, our dude fought back tears and just politely excused himself because he didn't want to be mean or hurtful back. Everything she said was wrong and he just took it on the chin and went about his business.

Jerry has always been our guy. He's the only character that has barely changed at all over the course of the show and the beautiful thing is that repeatedly the show has episodes where characters warm up to Jerry and it's just them realizing he's actually a fucking stud and they should have treated him better.
