Genndy’s name doesn’t seem to have the credibility it once did. More and more I’m hearing “This is the project he wanted to make for years and nobody would let him until now” (like Unicorn) and then we see why it was rejected for so long. Some of his ideas aren’t good, or are executed poorly and he’s also kind of bad at endings.
Samurai Jack - rushed tragic ending
Primal - rushed tragic ending with some rapey vibes, tainting a series that was strong otherwise
Unicorn - entire series undercut by the “heroes” being body-snatchers when it was originally marketed as more of a reincarnation premise, and probably should have been, ends on a rushed cliffhanger.
This one stands apart by not even LOOKING like it will be good in the trailers. The chances it actually will be are razor thin.

Nothing wrong with tragic endings, it is the norm for adult live action movies. The problem is that your average animation fan can't handle any discomfort or inaccessibility at all. They want every animated media to be extremely G-rated, literal, and safe.

No one wants to wants to make inferences or speculations like live action people do with adult/art house films, they just complain about plot holes and edginess.

If you're gonna do R rated animated movies make shit like Aeon Flux, or copy Ralph Bakshi's style. Every time there's been a cartoony cartoon with an R rating it turns out like shit, only one that did it well was El Superbeasto and that was a RARE exception. This film just don't cut it, and it's uncomfortable as fuck to watch judging by the trailers. I can't believe there's people willing to even defend it because Genndy worked on it, and I'm not even rage baiting.

I think the main issue with fixed even if the story is okay is that it's obvious they weren't allowed to go all-out with the animation. Pic related is the concept art of one of the scenes then the actual scene itself. One thing I immediately notice is Bull has a more dynamic pose, the characters actually have lighting and the background is textured instead of digitally made perfect. The artist also only uses one color to set the mood of the scene. In the final, none of those details are present anymore, and the characters are on-model instead of being allowed to be dynamic. To me this feels like a look into what the movie could be like if the artists were given more freedom, time and budget on this.

Genndy should make a primal prequel but it’s a dino orgy that shows how fang got pregnant with her first batch

Fixed will be an amusing shitpost of the film at best. Genndy is all style and very little substance except for rare occasions when he's paired up with better writers. You can't count on him to deliver when left to his own devices.

The film's lack of rim lights is definitely made apparent there, but I think everything else looks fine for a budget film. Let's wait until we see the bottom frame in full animated context at least.

I don't have a problem with R-rated furry, just don't make the whole thing about B A L L S. Even Fritz the cat, which was an adaptation of Crumb's edgelord comics, was more dignified as a movie. Yeah it had sex and piss and violence, but it also had great music, great dialogue and great commentary about the American 60's. It wasn't mumble rap with some female dog doing the extremely worn-out and unfunny "SIT" joke, it was an actual movie. Fritz's designs were a lot cuter too, Fixed looks fucking nasty.
