Why would Hank of all people like Saudi Arabia? A place with no beer, no lawns, no churches, no football. Makes zero sense.

ARMACO bases have all of that, plus hired helpers pampering you. They're specifically designed to be super idealized US style neighborhoods mixed with luxury cruises.

Saudi Arabia literally has walled-off bases for foreigners who work there (unless you're a construction worker in which case it's a walled-off slave camp) designed to resemble their home countries. They serve alcohol, let you eat pork, etc. Hank probably only saw some Muslim businessmen every now and then but otherwised lived a lifestyle straight out of suburban America.

>otherwised lived a lifestyle straight out of suburban America
The show straight up shows you how they lived while in Saudi Arabia and yes it was an idealized suburban lifestyle. Pic-related is from episode fucking 1 were you even paying attention OP?

>"I tell you what they really did their homework here on America."
A major plot point is that they got used to the nice ARMACO base way of living and are caught off guard by how much America has changed since they were gone. Saudi Arabia ironically is more of the idealized America they have in their minds than Arlan, Texas.

>plus hired helpers pampering you
This too. The show makes the Hills out to be financially pretty well off so they're retired for good reason. There's a scene where the company tries convincing Hank to go back to work for them with ludicrously generous financial offers and incentives, so they're giving up a lot just to go back to their old lives in Arlan.

The Grass and it was a sport. To be fair even the show treats it as a tough thing for Hank to admit.

The way that episode ended was weird. Boomhauer apparantly made some kind of combo football/soccer/wrestling sport and everybody was just okay with that aside from Hank? What was supposed to be the message of that story?

That episode didn't make any sense. It was structured around the A plot, Dale suspecting Hank of being a terrorist mole, being in place of the B plot, Hank now likes Soccer, and vice-versa.

Don't forget about how liking soccer apparently made Peggy super horny. Feel like they had more sex in that episode than the entire original series.

Wasnt it the opposite ? I thought Khan was the one was well off among the group.

Yes, in the original run. Between S13 and S14, Hank took a very lucrative job offer in SA to help them convert shit to use propane which is why they are now financially much better off.

Didn't they end up losing a ton of that money in the last episode of the season?

No. Hank did from his FOMO buy, but it was cancelled out because Peggy sold her shares before the crash after realizing Hank had been right the entire episode

Yeah the way I see it Hank was probably getting ripped off by Strickland at his original job. But then that new job he got after paid him well. Which makes sense since Hank is probably like the best propane employee you can find.

>>149838091
Hank lost money because he caved in and bought a bunch of risky stocks due to following Peggy's example, but Peggy sold off her stocks before the price tanked due to following Hank's example of being risk-adverse. So they sort of ended up balancing each other out.

Honestly if they were looking for a business to invest in it feels like they could have helped Bobby out with his restaurant. He's been working his ass off trying to get the business going without much to show for it.

Also side note I've seen people asking how everyone in the alley has retired so young. I know Bill was a barber for the Army and you can retire pretty young in the military. Boomhaur is a Texas Ranger so might be a similar situation for him, not sure. Dale still does pest control but his wife Nancy has always been the bread-winner so that's like something he seems to do on the side when he feels like it.

Is Robata Chane publicly traded?

I keep reading Bill was "forced to retire from the army", but I can't remember that actually coming up in the new season.

Buck's appearance in the new season confirms that.

Bobby's probably just co-owner because Chane gets to have his name on something without doing any work, I'd imagine that any investments would have to go through Ted and I doubt he'd be interested in Hank and Peggy's money, with how concerned with image he is.
Anonymous No.149838342 [Report]
I'm willing to bet Hank was still being drastically underpaid at ARMACO.
The pay raise they were offering him to come back probably ended up being standard pay for anyone else.

Wouldn't make sense but Bobby did mention he took a pay cut in order to get part ownership of the restaurant. But it's expected the restaurant won't actually turn a profit for like another year and a half since they need to build up a customer base. Until then Bobby won't see any profit on his ownership of the restaurant so he's getting paid the same as his employee Emilio which apparently isn't a lot.

Like half the show is Hank and his friends while the other half is Bobby starting a small business and having relationship troubles.

Ted is totally going to do something to tank the business right before it starts making a profit

Appreciate the explanation but I was asking it more rhetorically since the other anon was asking why Hank and Peggy invested in Boomhauer's publicly traded startup instead of the restaurant.

From what I saw Bobby had like one regular customer and he ended up dying. Other major characters in the show like Hank, Peggy, etc. can't even go there often because it's apparently in Dallas which is a considerable drive from Arlan. Otherwise I could imagine someone like Bill frequenting the place.
