It makes sense, but in like episode 1 when Ragatha is talking about Pomni adjusting to the circus Kinger gets a bucket stuck in his head and remarks that Ragatha was very similar back when she first arrived. Ragatha gets kind of confused when she hears him say something so lucid, but immediately after taking the bucket off (and thus no longer being in the dark) he goes back to normal and she doesn't connect the dots.
Someone that knows about the Kinger/DarknessKinger thing would've connected the dots right away I think, so my hypothesis is that somehow she's never been in a situation that leads to knowing this.

These designs feel more substantive than the original ones. Goose's designs are eye catching and unique when you take away the already established recognisability they all have online, but it is very clear that they share an artstyle. While he did try to make each member of the cast unique they still look like they come from a mid 2010s animated show and don't really contrast that well with the vibrancy of the circus. Goose wanted a late 80's early 90's CGI feel but aside from the concept renders used for the official OST vinyl tracks it is actually almost entirely absent in the final product. These redesigns though actually contrast eachother in style as well as sharp v rounded silhouettes. They are not too soft either and I think they would actually work better a lot better with the cast expressing themselves in their more serious moments too.

Kinger being more of a jibbering monolith of a design gives him presence and with some funny lines here and there he would be far more intriguing of a character while also being all the more gut punching when his lucidity returns to him.

Jax being more hare like and sharp I think better illustrates his demeanor than his original design and allows him to really look mischievious as well as coniving. It would play into audience biases far better that he is a menance and bad news but then flips it when it turns out he actually has nuance. The new design could allow this easy re-frame between trouble maker and sensitive aloof way better than the original square lanky design.

New Zooble actually looks like an early CGI character and is far more understantable as to why she would be frustrated with her form. Her being the least anthropomorphic of the bunch I think would also make her personality contrast even further with the rest of the group as the anchored straightman.

Rags has a far more motherly look to her while also having a level of uncanniness that could work well during moments where her facade of positivity cracks. A design that soft and disarming would be perfect in highlighting Rags insecurities in contradiction to her appearance.

Pomni is the best of all though I think, it suits her more placid demeanor and meekness that she develops after the pilot well, it is so striking. Her being more clown / jester like also draws more attention onto her connection as a protag at the centre of circus.

I'm under the belief that abstraction is meant to be a metaphor for suicide, and is self inflicted due to the crushing weight of negative emotions. It's not confirmed if Gangle's breakdown in episode 4 is her about to abstract, but I think it's safe to assume it is. If abstraction can be "prevented" by being outwardly caring, maybe it can be brought on by being the opposite? Making someone feel unloved, as Kinger says. For me abstraction is less about killing yourself because you’re sad and more about disassociating from reality. In episode 2 Pomni felt as if she was teetering on the edge of non-existence and had dreams about being forgotten, she needed to feel security that there were real people in the circus to be able to hold onto something that made it real. Caine for example started glitching because he had to confront the idea that his reason for living (his art) might be something he’s bad at. Less depression, more disassociation.
