Catching up on reviewing recent episodes (they first appeared on TeenNick).

"Meats of Strength" was pretty fun.

Beef, the kid with the goat, has a DVD of the bloodiest avant-garde dance film of all time, 'Suspensio', and invites Jack over to a sleepover. Since Jack has never been to one, Lily trains him before sending him off so she can have the house to herself. While she soon misses Jack, he has to face Beef's wrestling-obsessed family.

It was fun showing more characters, and building up to them, too. Beef's family reminds me of the Beefpunchas from Invincible Fight Girl, who have the odd kid not into wrestling (played for more comedy, of course). I heard Beef's parents were voiced by real wrestlers, which sounds quite fitting. I hope to see more of them. The fight/dance sequence was pretty fun, and I loved the reference to 'Dirty Dancing' in it. I love that movie. The B-plot of Lily becoming bored without him was also quite interesting. It underlines how much the half-siblings have grown closer to each other. It serves as a nice contrast. Maybe Beef's family should be encouraged to have other interests, though (like how one of the kids is actually involved in theater, though that episode seemed to be out of order).

It's a fun showing, though. I give it 9.5/10.

"Dead Ed's" was an interesting episode.

Lily encourages the Wylde-Pak family to visit "Dead Ed's", the local shifty dive. The place has Dead Ed's pickled toe, which locals take a sip of to prove their local-ness. Inevitably, Jack takes a swig from the jar. When Lily follows, the two get sent down on a wild trip to find Dead Ed.

Honestly, the premise was rather much, but we do get some nice moments in their tripping that could give weed a run for its money. For one, the two of them are out of it throughout. It climaxes in an emotional moment towards the end, when they realize how much Canyon Valley was a place for both Jack and Lily. On the other hand, I thought the premise was rather tasteless. Meanwhile, I think Will, Min, and Halmoni could have done more. They could have had a B-plot where they snuck out to try some other place instead. I think this episode needed some more diversions.

Overall, it's not without its flaws, but is serviceable. I give it 8/10.

"The Secret of Lake Island" was a great episode.

As the family visits a lake, Lily takes Jack to the abandoned Lake World amusement park on the island inside, only for them to get stranded. The two end up clashing over how to survive.

It was a good bottle episode, with great focus on how the two differ. As with many other episodes, we get a very emotional climax that really shows how much she wants to show Jack the places she loves so that he could enjoy them and make them his as well. It really emphasizes how much both Canyon Valley and Jack mean to Lily. We get a small but parallel aside with Will and Min where the latter expresses concern about her relationship with Jack. It's a nice touch. The climax was fine, but I question whether the set piece needed to be destroyed (I know, it's a cartoon, but still).

Overall, it's another home run. I give it a 9.5/10.

"Father, Son, and Furniture Store" was a wonderful show.

Will is concerned over Jack's austere lifestyle. After he breaks Jack's hammock, the two disagree over whether to replace it or get a bed instead. The two end up at Mike A's, a vast department store filled with all sorts of attractions and collectibles alongside everyday houseware and furniture, run by its eccentric owner who will do whatever it takes to get Will a sale and give Jack a wild adventure.

It's a fun episode, but it's also poignant in that with Will and Jack being rather distant, the former is definitely trying to make up for lost time. The place itself is rather outrageous, but it's a nitpick, and it's saved by the very charismatic owner. Mike A is one hell of a character. Aside from that, we get some great interactions between Will and Jack. It's fun to see the two bond over their similarities, and it demonstrates how much Will cares for Jack, and how he's basically honoring Alice's wishes. It really shows the depth of understanding he has for both Alice and Jack.

Overall, this was a wonderful episode. I give it a 10/10.

It does depend, here I think since Jack, Lily and the family are the characters they focus on the most they put their work on those characters and got to have random strange designs like the boys who don't skip leg day, for the others. Shows like Phineas and Ferb gave their main characters indefinable shapes and depending on what you think not as cute designs and let them go wild on making background and other characters be more cute at times.

There are several photos of Lily and Jack being together at different ages, but that obviously stopped after Jack's 6th birthday.

So Jack had several times contact with his father, Minju, and Lily at least until he was 6.

Why he stopped seeing his dad is unknown.
But maybe he wanted to be with his exciting mother than with his boring dad?

He just turned 18 and his voice already changed considerably before the show premiered in any capacity. As I'm pretty sure the Jack voice was his VAs speaking voice (or something slightly different), if this show is continuing beyond 26 half hours, either a) Jack is having a growth spurt or b) he is gonna be recast.

yeah you might as well start on digital then. Start with just sketching a lot of geometric shapes and tubes and connectors. get used to how they can be rotated, resized, skewed.. and when you do final lineart, use vector lines, so you have full control.

Just finished this ep as well liked it a lot better than the LAD one, is a bit more cartoony and zanny like jack being able to sneak in and get a job. Also crazy how good and responsible he is he had a job and was employee of the month and knew everyone. I think they are good parents but clueless in how to respectfully parent jack. Will knowing he basically did in a way abandon jack and because of this jack learned to get on without him. An min doesn't want to overstep or over parent jack as she's not his real mom and it'd be a bit weird or awkward to try especially since she's a outsider in his life.

I don't think we're on the same page. Jack's VA, Benjamin Plessala, was already 15 years old when voice recordings began (all signs point to the first voice recordings happening end of winter to sometime in spring of 2023). I'm pretty sure that the voice of Jack we've been hearing so far has been what his speaking voice sounded back then (or something very close to it). Since then, Plessala's voice dropped and he sounds very different to the Jack we've heard so far. I wouldn't be surprised if Jack's voice deepens a bit during the last couple of episodes of the show (barring any renewal).
