Making a movie about dogs receiving genital surgery is not widely appealing. It can have all the good writing and animation in the world, but it's held back by its premise, like if someone made a movie called "The Boogershits" about a family made of boogers and shit. I haven't seen the movie yet, and I'll probably enjoy it at least a little when I do, but normal people are not going to want to give it a chance.

Problem is that nobody is allowed to make 2D animation like Red Hot Riding Hood and The Great Piggy Bank Robbery anymore, and The Day The Earth Blew Up, the only exception to this suffers from a lack of skill (Tonic DNA who suffers from forced animation thats badly timed, posed and settled on this, Titmouse New York only did 1 segment on it (the UPA mimic segment) which feel like it belongs in Dexter's Lab or Powerpuff Girls, not Looney Tunes, and Snipple just tweened the hell out of it which made it look like a DTV cheapqule rather then something that can stand toe to toe with The Boy and The Heron and The Imaginary) and that is was just Ren and Stimpy in a Looney Tunes skin and the film would've worked much better if it was a Dexter's Lab mover with Dexter and Dee Dee saving the world from Aliens and it would've done better in the box office too because of it.

It isn't even a good friends go out short story, it's not a boys go out for one last party story either , even if I tried to justify it's pacing I don't even feel that they used their time well with the characters.

I don't even think it worked as a comedy, I think only 3-4 awkward jokes made me chuckle and that was mostly at the things dogs do.

Animation cannot save a bad story, and this shit wasn't just bad it was worse than being bad it was just boring.

If you had ONE CHANCE to "save 2D animation", you would not make a niche film like this. It's pretty obvious that nobody believes this. What's the problem of the writing and plot?
The plot is fairly okay. Dog is horny, dog has a long time crush he never confessed, dog is going to be neutered because he annoys his family with his antics, dog has smug asshole rival, dog runs away and decides to enjoy life in the city, dog meets with his best friends and get in hijinks, dog tries to confess to his love, his love thinks he is fucking other bitch, they reconcile while smug rival is fucking dog without noticing, dog and love interest get together in the end. He gets neutered anyway.

Its not really a movie for everyone, but a lot of complains seem to come from people that hate animated raunchy comedies on principle rather than actual execution.

I think its a 7/10 carried by legit good visuals (I don't get people saying the movie is ugly, it has a great style).

I rewatched drawn together and I don't see why people say it had mostly sexual jokes.
Most shit was unseen, fade to black before an ad break or a non sequitur to other character doing stuff.
Hell even foxy love had mostly racist jokes than sexual jokes and she was the designated eye candy with clara.
I'd argue racism, calling each other faggots and stupidity make 80% of the run time while the actual on-screen sex jokes are less than 10% with the other 10% being set ups for other punchlines.

Seriously even the donkey joke was used for a roid rage joke at hero intervention, that's a high density of jokes per scene.

“Waiting for Godot” is two guys standing around waiting for one person and “12 Angry Men” is just a bunch of angry men in a single room.
Simple concepts work when the characters are well written and interesting. When you read inbetween the lines of a simple movie, you discover an abundance of little cautionary tales packed inbetween, the premise is just a narrative device to tell many small stories. This is much better and more dignified than a highly thought out concept with deep lore and intricate in-universe politics but with uninspired characters that are just copies of tropes, basically a writer just playing with their OCs like action figures without having an interesting real life experiences to draw inspiration from. This seems to be the kind of thing we see a lot nowadays.

A movie is more than just its premise, anybody in the fuckin world can come up with an idea, it’s the easiest part, no-one gives a shit about your epic universe 20 years in the making if you have nothing tangible to show for it. What matters is the execution.
This is why nobody on /co/ has ever made it anywhere, and the few industry guys who lurked here decades ago are stuck making bad shows on CN and Nickelodeon anyway.

This is the problem exactly. It's not hard to do it right, they purposely don't want to and think they can force you to deal with it. Make something like Legend but animated, make something like It Happened One Night. Make something just good. The sex is a big deal, but it's not for puritanical reasons. It's because a movie whose premise is "dogs fuck one another" is inherently disgusting and uncompelling. If this movie were about, say, a dog needs to return to his owner and there happened to be a scene where there is tastefully done dogfucking, yeah that's kinda weird but it could hypothetically 'work' because at least that's just one scene.
But this movie is all dogfucking. That's the premise. It's something out of Idiocracy. "Dog about to lose balls, so he go fuck other dog. Hahaha, very funny." It's "adult" only in terms of content, but not in terms of maturity.

This movie wasn't even good and I didn't find it funny for the majority of it's runtime. I'm not even sure what you can really say to defend it. The animation is pretty good but that's it. It's just a waste of time in a bad way.

Lol good one, I wish this was the case. It's worse. They just like characters and their designs at most. Maybe they will say a gag or two made them laugh. Things like themes, plot, dialogue, subtext and pacing never get discussed here in depth unless it's extremely bad. The story is just a fancy package wrapped around their favorite characters to be discarded.
