It changes over time. For many years, it was Peter. Sometimes Steve is the main character, but then he goes off and does his own thing. Really, all of the “main guys” do that, become a part of a team, but are also loners. So Ben Grimm, Logan, and Bruce Banner have all taken turns. Matt Murdoch, Frank Castle and Steven Strange are all “secondary”, as well as the rest of the X-Men who stand out in people’s memories.

IMO Doom should be, at best, second-best at everything he does.
Reed Richards is a better scientist.
Steven Strange is a better sorcerer.
Tony Stark makes better armor.
Tçhalla is a better ruler.
etc.
The thing that makes him dangerous is the sheer amount of things he can do combined with the unshakable belief that he's always right, not that he's some divine superman.

you are 100% right its Reed because even on a metatextual level he is the closest connection to the One Above All Jack Kirby. Again just on a meta level, Kirbys closest thing to self insert was Ben/Thing for his speaking/persona and Reed Richards as an ideal man.

because if a "character cures cancel" then cancer cant be used as a plot device for example with femthor having cancer in human form that couldnt happen.
