Combined with an aspect which are all incredibly basic in nature with a little study and you have a myriad of possibilities. I just finished reading the whole comic last week and reading the Epilogues now. My friend who I introduced EarthBound to when we were kids tried to get me to read it back in 2012 or so, made it a few hundred pages and dropped it for whatever reason. Thanks, it is pretty sweet. Homestuck has really made us reconnect and we've been talking like 3 times a week just discussing it. It's really shown me how influential EarthBound and it's derivative works have impacted my life and the lives of those closest to me. I'm trying to get my girlfriend to read it too but she's kind of a Jane Eyre-pseud, she did play EarthBound for me at least and she enjoyed it. But what's absolutely crazy is I was talking to my mom about it, she seemed intrigued by troll romance, and said she wanted to read it which would probably be the most hilarious thing I've ever made happen. I'm reading Homestuck for the first time.
Currently reading Act 5 Act 1 and my god does it drag.
Like I get that the story needs to fully introduce all the trolls and give a rundown of how they ended up playing the game, but still god damn does dragging my ass through 12 character introductions in a row suck.

I really hope that the animated series makes this section a little more bearable and less repetitive when/if they get to this point. I don't wanna deal with 2 whole episodes of nothing but character introductions and backstory.

So, how does everyone think the show will handle the sections of the story where one of the exiles is giving a character commands through the console?

Like, I get them cutting the narration and the general 'player commands' that aren't technically canon to the story (as they're more just abstractions of the medium as part of the comic's attempt to imitate CYOA games) but there are parts where there are literally canon characters that are directly giving the kids commands as early as Act 1.

And those characters are important too, they and their interactions with the kids are central to multiple plot points in the story so they can't just be cut.

I've been trying to build a homebrew set up for a decade now. This attempt (attempt 5?) is nearing completion. I'm going for a base 10 system, similar to world of darkness, but with a lot of custom systems. You roll 2-3 stats/skills etc when rolling most things, and there are poor/moderate/good/epic success tiers for abilities that determine how big the effect is. You can use your basic breath ability at low level to get a simple movement buff, but by the time your skills are high enough and you're rolling way more dice, that same ability has the chance to do up to god tier effects. Abilities go into your Battle Techniques deck, pulling from weapon abilities, items, classpect, sylladex weaponization, etc. Combat Operandi shit.

We've got a good alchemization system right now, just finalizing it into a google sheets calculator. It's breaks items up into Material / Purpose / Attributes / Theme to account for vast modibility.

I've got 12 rough draft abilities for every classpect combination, and when I know who's playing for sure I can dial in on those and fine tune them. But that was an undertaking.

Based on canon precedent, prototyping seems to be much more literal than alechemization. In alchemy you can combine a hot topic grimoire with a needlewand to make an eldritch magic wand. When obviously the grimoire is not a forbidden text with an actual connection to horrorterrors.

Meanwhile some kid putting his multi-universal power scaled OC in is probably relatively common. So in terms of balance it would be wise for sburb’s designers to make it that way so breaking the session happens slightly less. Especially since unlike alchemy which requires items, prototyping is free.

Knights have their skills day-one, but their isn't much needed growth
Maid are about constant upkeep
Slyphs are quick fix ups
Princes destroy
Bards break down
Seers are given knowledge from their aspect
Mages need to study and practice their aspect

The only real issue to this is witches and heirs. Both seem to be pretty even when God-tiered. The only thing I can say is that Witches have a boss to them while heirs are suppose to be the a boss, more power comes form the boss but when you are one you have to set things up at some point.
