I actually thought the animation for Mark vs Gohan was good

I know a lot of people had problems with it but I thought it was great.

Even if you disagree with Gohan losing, given the power gap between the two it makes sense for Mark to take little damage. It also put Mark in some kind of mentor or elder role to Gohan, and let Mark show how far he had come by defeating someone who had been down the same path as him. He wasn't just fighting Gohan, he was TEACHING Gohan. And I think that's very heartwarming in a way. That Mark would take the lessons he learned and help someone who was just like him.

If this weren't a Death Battle I'm sure they would have ended cordially and taught each other well. The alternate ending is weird, even if heartwarming in its own way. It was nice to see Mark reunite with Rex, but it feels weird to have him just stand there and take that punch.

I haven't watched Gohan's anime though (but after watching the fight I think I might watch a recap on Youtube!) so I might be missing stuff but as a big... fan I thought they did Mark justice and from what I saw they treated Gohan with the utmost respect. What character has ever gotten an alternate ending made just for them?

It is weird because they are predominantly using anime specific nomentclature and concepts.
Like in the manga it is not just bad humans have the ability to become kishin.
It is specific in that only through the consumption of many good souls can someone end up becoming a kishin.
But then again we don't know the specifics there either.
Asura wasn't born as a demon weapon, but in his fear madness induced search for power he consumed his weapon.
This allowed him to consume souls not on Shinigami's list and contributed to his evolution into a kishin and also the Great Old One of Fear.
Crona on the other hand, only becomes a kishin after also having access to the Book of Eibon and BREW while being inside of Asura.
Maybe. It could be that Crona took on the features of Asura by overpowering Asura's will.
