97 episodes is a lot of episodes of a mediocre show. Despite being 97 episodes long, I hardly remember anything. No episodes that feel very iconic and something that I want to rewatch.

Holy fuck it IS true. I could understand them renewing it for season 2 before the first season had even started airing, like maybe they were confident about it being a surprise smash hit or something, but a third season before the second season begins airing? Fox are either insane or the show really is extremely cheap to make to the point where they're not really losing much by renewing it.

EVERY episode of The Great North was that.

but they didn't "earn" those episodes by establishing characters. they went straight to the sweet aww-shucks good messages. and that's all they ever did.

I'm honestly convinced an AI wrote this show. It was like someone took the dull, borderline irritating anti-humor of a Family Circus comic, added a bunch of random pop culture references and puns, and stretched it to 22 minutes.

I'm fine with pop culture references when they're not being used as a crutch for writing but The Great North did that in spades. It's like they all came out of a coma and are catching up with the world. And most of the time they're referencing shit just to reference it. It doesn't even feel ham fisted. It feels like playing a bad version of Madlibs. Doesn't help that it sounds like all the VAs except for Jenny Slate and Will Forte are there against their will/needing a paycheck.

My issue with Dirt is that she shows up and suddenly all of Lone Moose is jampacked with single senior age lesbians.

I don't remember a single time she fails in her pursuit of one-night stands due to "Sorry, I don't lean that way".

Elaborate? I didn't feel it turning woke until the crazy aunt showed up, before that, the gay son was pretty tame which I actually enjoyed.

The mayor and the rest of the town show up at the Tobin house to give Beef food related gifts for his efforts and then everyone is invited inside as Judy plays the pan flute. This leads to the episode ending on a montage of previous episodes, but with Alanis around, implying that Alanis was always there.

If all of that, plus the episode being a parody of A Wonderful Life, doesn't solidify the episode as the series finale, I don't know what does.

Every fucking time I tried to tune in after season 1 to a new episode it was them all sitting around doing "What if?" scenarios which are the worst bob's burgers episodes and were even worse here. I don't even know how common they are in the show because I'd just stop watching for a stretch, then when I'd try a new episode it'd be one of those absolute ass anthologies.
I wonder if that contributed to losing viewership

It's impressive how these Bouchard cartoons all struggle to make anthology episodes entertaining. Simpsons could at least do that well into its teen seasons. Also Family Guy occasionally.

This show hit a sweet spot of feeling sincere and earnest. I actually liked it for being milquetoast. I wish Nick Offerman was my dad. I'm a mid-westerner in an isolated town, so maybe a lot of the stupid little details while not 1:1 resonated with me. Or maybe it's that I romanticize Alaska since isolation and snow appeal to me. The characters felt wholesome in a dorky kind of way. Watching this morning when they did the it's a pretty ok life deal and the end credits I felt instinctively that the show was up for cancellation. It wasn't a 'laugh a minute' tight writing but it made me smile and for me, that's enough. Now to feel sad reading all the comments that boil down to: this show is boring and not as funny as edgier more topical shows that have been going for longer than some posters on this board have been alive. Thanks for the smiles Bouchard. I like this a little more than modern Bob's Burgers

Honestly, this is what I liked the most about the show, the family, outside the occasional one-episode conflict, did look like they get along, which was very comfy for me.

My ideal finale would have been Wolf and Honeybee having a baby, but alas.

I liked it more than modern BB because it's willing to let characters be flawed and horny. It feels like all the horny energy of early BB went right into TGN, and they allow characters to act unethically a little bit and get away with it, like when Judy cheats to help Ham finish his homework, and in return, Ham cheats to win her the award she wants. BB wouldn't do that, but it still ended up being a cute family moment.

It has no identity. It's lower stakes Bob's Burgers filled with the same amount of fart, butt, and pun jokes you'd see in an episode of that but in Alaska. I'd say I was enjoying Great North more than current BB but yeah, they gave no incentive to watch this. At least you can tell Family Guy and American Dad are wildly different shows by looking at two pictures.

Oh yeeeeeah.

Central Park started off with a lot of promise, but just ran out of steam in season 2. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too in regards to having a show with an ongoing plot (since those shows always do better on streaming, where binging is the norm) AND have a sitcom that can run for twenty seasons.

The result is something that starts out strong but peters out because the story isn't allowed to evolve. The maid lady should have figured out by season 2 that she's not in the will and either make plans to bump Bitsy off, or quit and do something else. Bitsy should have either succeeded in her plot, or have her criminal empire crumble by mid season 2. Or at least get the feds involved.

It wanted everything and as a result ended at season 3.
