I find it mind-boggling just how fundamentally broken the site is now.

Like, with all the AI art generation, it's not hard to find users with over 10000 artworks in their galleries, even up to the cap of 40000. But the site can only retrieve the first 10000 in a query, so the gallery view stops working beyond that point. Because they gutted the search functionality a long time ago, you can't search by time, or sort. There's just no way to view that stuff directly, meaning it's not impossible to have a gallery where you can't view up to 75% of it.

I like that it still has a controversial stigma because it keeps whiny people out and site costs low. They go down regularly in the middle of the night for maintenance like a real website. And on the plus side it's a good way to keep your head out of the clouds. As an artist who posts on multiple websites, Deviantart makes up a whopping 79.9% of my current following. For comparison: Newgrounds is only 12.9% and Bluesky is only 7.2%. (I refuse to use Twitter because that website is dogshit.) It's unnerving knowing that the majority of my followers come from just one website and that website is DA of all places. Granted, the majority of what I make is vanilla NSFW stuff (titty, fat asses, pinups), but I can't help but fear the truth that I only have as many followers as I do because of DA.

Well it all depends if you want to monetize your art where you should post. If you just hobby, newgrounds, DA, pixiv is your best horses in this race. Lotta nice people, attention, stats info and good resolution on uploads, pixiv has it's issues and less engagement but, you can archive there nice. If you want commissions I'd go X, tiktok, pixiv, tumblr, newgrounds and maybe DA if you don't mind. And link all in a bio post, then start uploading and networking, see where you get some bites.

But yeah, it's alright to not upload beyond here for a bit. Don't let a lack of (You)'s hurt your pride, sometimes people just might have a percieved idea they might hate you personally, that's not constructive, it can be a bit tribal here sometimes. Whenever you're ready to upload to a site you should do it if you're proud of it and learned something. It's okay to let some stuff stay anonymous, some stuff you post here you might want end up buried lol
