It's more that fact that the country was in a crisis so bad Argentina had 100 times the inflation of the most other country. Literally; from 2020 to 2025 Argentina inflation was over 2000% against roughly 20 to 30 in countries that were doing badly. For better or worst those 4 ciphers numbers went down to 21% after Milei took over and applied some changes, but he was never up to be an actual president and sold out right from the get to go with people that were more of the same shit.
Basically, it's not that people "took this clown seriously" it's just that the election was "The guys currently running the country while we got inflation so bad you might sell something and lose money because it got more expensive by the end of the day" vs "Some crazy guy that got people on his side by shitting on the current power over the internet and in cheap local tv."
It's not even an Argentina only issue either, but the guy was specially insane and specially not ready to actually take on power.
Look at the fucking map; Russia is at war, blocked from commerce with half the world, and it still doesn't even have 50%. The other "strong" candidate was the then minister of economy and he would often appear on TV high on coke.
In case you haven't guessed I am from Argentina, but I stopped voting (despite that being illegal and finned here) because I think it's a fucking joke.
I hope I don't get banned for venting on the thread. I am sorry for further derailing shit.
