Literally all of those creators you mentioned had built-in audiences before they released their indie stuff, hence the success. It takes time. They got their start in their 20s, and now they're in their 30s or older and are finally successful.
Piggyback off of others' success. Make fan art or fan animations of existing properties to get an audience, then release your original works. Just make sure the fan art you do is tonally similar to your original works. If you're making fan art of a comedy show, don't be surprised if your original work doesn't do well if it's a dark and serious story.
I get what you mean though. I'm a fellow artist and it's rough out here. I'm sick of going online and seeing dipshits squawking about how "going indie" is the solution to the animation industry. It's super naive.
All this being said though, learn how to fucking drive. I have a friend who's pushing 26 years old and he still doesn't have his drivers' license. It's pathetic. Don't be like him, you're better than that.
