Where were hype moments and aura in the episode?

Well... that was nothing like what I expected, but hold on a sec. Maybe if I didn't have so many predictions, then I wouldn't have this vague sense of disappointment, but let's get into it. This was the gayest shit ever and I say that with nothing but love in my heart. The whole joke is Mole Man trying to get external validation from other men about his dick, which I would otherwise not find funny, but this somehow made the dick jokes work cuz it felt gay as hell. Pim being ok in saying the dick was nice to save his ass but Charlie refusing to do so even in a dire situation has major undertones lol. Mole Man was very much like Sarah from Gumball to such a degree that she had to have been inspo for this episode, which I personally adore since I love Sarah. Besides that, there was no Charpim anything like we all thought, just general obsessiveness over Pim and Charlie, which was fine, actually. That plotline was actually pretty tight and I liked it despite it not being what I expected. Overall, it felt like light commentary about the fans rather than anything specific, which is probs the tamest angle they could've gone for.

The b-plot of Allan and Glep was fine, but I had a problem with them not considering them Smiling Friends, which is just rude desu. We honestly don't see much of this plotline besides Allan and Glep getting tortured by the children (and Glep inflation for some reason? *shiver*), which is only done to highlight their incompetence. Not sure about that, but it's not the main focus of the episode. The ending tho has me thinking since Mole Man becomes not obsessed anymore when the mother falls in love with him, which I don't mind, but the undertones is that Charpim or SF fans become less obsessed with the characters when they have something else going on in real life, like family or relationships. It's like fans become super invested because we have nothing else going on in our lives. Does anyone else agree with that interpretation?

What singlehandily saved this one from me being fully disappointed in the episode was the last fucking bit of Allan saying that Mole Man's dick was delicious and everyone staring at him in silence until it cuts to credits. Out of everything I expected from this episode, Allan being canonically bisexual was not it, but oh my goddddd, that's some good queer rep right there. Allan's my favorite character and I've always seen myself in him, and us having the same sexuality warms my heart. Hopefully this will continue to be brought up in the show.

Anyone else feel this season 3 has a mean-spirited undertone so far? Like the core of every episode is deep negativity and suffering. this show usually feels too short but this one especially felt the most constrained by the runtime
we get the full setup of the premise at about the 6 minute mark ...in an 11 minute show. Over half the runtime is the first act so you have to speedrun the 2nd and 3rd, your ending sounds like someone pitching what the ending is gonna be instead of doing it; the characters just say what's happening instead of it being natural.
They're trying to do Simpsons style plots with half the time and it really just feels rushed. Take the Monorail ep or Mr. Plow or whatever and chop out 10 minutes from it but try to make it still work. It would be really difficult and the end result would feel like the pacing of this show.

What they explained in Create Unknown was they had a budget for small cameos. They decided to leave talking to CWC for the very last, because they knew if they did it in advance, he'd go on social media and talk about it. When they decided it was time to talk to him, the network told them they were over the cameo budget and if they wanted to bring him in, he'd have to be in more than a couple lines for one role.
Zach and Mike thought it wouldn't be funny that way, that the joke being funny depended on it being literally just those two lines and nothing else, and instead asked Harry Partridge to do a CWC voice for Grease.

A meme is good because it's exploitable. The pilot episode had the "I LOVE KIDS" bit which can easily be transformed into just about anything else, but it also fits seamlessly into the context that it doesn't feel like it was intentionally forced to be a meme.

It seems like they're crafting characters to be the most obnoxious, unlikable assholes possible then giving them a bizarrely positive ending for no reason, as if the gag is the simple fact they're not getting any real punishment. sam was an asshole with an ego complex that thinks he just inherently deserved to be taken seriously, gets hailed as a messiah by the end. mr frog was a reckless sociopath, reached nirvana in peace. the mole was a obsessive freak kidnapper, walked away from his life with a .05 second turnaround with no consequences. if the halloween episode was in this season the monster that terrorized pim wouldn't have gotten torn apart and devoured, he'd have gotten sucked off by 16 busty strippers instead. feels like they're trying to do some ironic stuff but its just not very funny.

I've got a better one. The writers are clearly focusing on what they excel at, writing normal seeming dudes in comical situations. A bunch of male writers don't know how to write woman normally and will make everything "fanservicey" by drawing them sexy, overcorrect by not letting ANYTHING bad happen to the woman, and/or not have her do anything because they can't conceptualize a cartoon woman just acting like a normal person. Smiling Friends is 100% better off with an all-male cast and even mostly male one-off characters because the writers would fumble a main female character, and they're smart for recognizing that. /co/ has been clamoring for a white guy cartoon and Smiling Friends is even proof that making one in this decade won't get you lynched by the so called woke mob.
