Cardboard waterproofing
I've been engrossed by NHIL's video on cardboard construction. I love the concept of builders making stuff out of light, sturdy and free materials, even the glue is just water and flour. The papercrete specifically caught my eye.
But waterproofing is the big issue. Just painting the structure seems to not work, and NH proposes two solutions: a mixture of shellac and beeswax emulsified in boiling ethanol (house full of fire), or gluesticks and parafin wax heated and spread onto the material. The former has the benefit of being applied at room temp like a wood sealant. The later is much simpler to produce and can be re-applied and patched, but only when heated.
Does anyone else know of something to waterproof this material? I feel like hair-spray or some other substance would be an obvious pick.
