/fat/ - Fat Loss General
>Who is /fat/ for?
For chip chuggers working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros) or LoseIt (great for both).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 1g per lb of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and burn fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body burning away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat hyper-processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Feeling low energy

Just hit 204 from 228. Feeling good. I think I'm going to lower the amount of weight I'm trying to lose weekly from 2lbs to 1lb because the cut is getting very aggressive, and I need to fuel for my runs decently. Grown men are not meant to be eating 1672 calories a day lol

I think I'm going to go down to 195 maybe, and then start a lean bulk

is it normal for your weight to stall when starting to exercise more? I've been mostly sedentary for a while now and was losing about 2 pounds a week just through diet, but since I've incorporated a 2-3 mile walk every day my weight loss has completely flatlined. My diet and caloric deficit has stayed the exact same (I'm counting calories/macros meticulously so I know it's not that). Is this normal?

When you lose enough weight, your caloric needs will start getting lower. So as you lose weight, you'll need to reduce calories as well. Or walk more. Or exercise more

Yes, walking is a full body excercise. The muscles start growing instantly in your legs. You're prooably losing fat, building muscle and retaining water for their use. 1 gram of glycogen ties 3 grams of water. Upping your protein a bit helps this.

I used to take omeprazole every day for years. Now I have no heartburn issues whatsoever and no longer take omeprazole. I found stress made the acid reflux worse as well, so if there's anything you can do to reduce stress in your life that should help too.

Can you afford glp1s? Not saying it's the only option but people make unlearning lifelong habits super easy and it's really hard bordering on impossible. Otherwise I suggest learning some healthy self hate. Begin hating yourself as is and understanding it's not who you're supposed to be. Every meal is feeding into that shitty version of you. The fat you've stored is biologically intended for a journey or a great hunt and to keep you sustained. Your weight loss is that journey and you dont need extra food to fuel it because youve been doing that your entire life

I'm not sure how big you are, the bigger the harder it will be. But no matter how hard the payoff is you can do it, the harder it is the bigger the bragging rights

Unless you have access to psychedelics and a mentor for them, doing any resets will take time. I'm not saying you need to unlearn stuff, but rather learn new things. The whole journey to losing weight is about learning control and discover who you truly are, what you will be able to do. It's about total change. Crisis.

You've adapted yourself to a very bad situation. You've had no respect for yourself. Now is the time to adapt to something else. Time is also the key. Things will get easier with it, you will reach milestones through it. It will test not only your willpower, but everything that makes you 'you'.

Start by reading about human metabolism and hormones. Write down your goals, but don't do it straight away this instant. You need to think about them first. You need to plan. You need to be ready for the biggest change of your life.

It's not linear. After your muscles run out of glycogen your body starts using fat for the movement. Constant walking is an endurance excercise and burns fat efficiently. Your body gets more efficient at it (you can monitor your heart rate and even your walking rythm) and that lowers the energy demand a bit, but one usually starts going faster at that point which brings it naturally back up.

The thing is if such a long activity is wise. Muscles need rest and recovery, do you stay motivated to stay consistent etc. Consistency is the key here, no magic pills in this thing either.

I've been doing a thing where if I get a big craving for fast food, I'll do up all the calories/macros and try to make it as "healthy" as possible while also being what I consider a cheat meal, then set it a week ahead on my meal plan. If I'm still craving it by that time then I'll get it and it's incorporated in my plan to account for it. 9 times out of 10 the craving is gone by that point and I'll take it out of my plan for something more healthy

Nah I know what he means. It's different. Junk food cravings are a thing and they're more common early on, when one has been eating junk food daily. On the other hand, once you hit a month or so in you don't feel pulled by junk food but you might feel bored or empty and thus have a vague urge to "cheat" just to make the boredom go away. At least, that's how it is for me.
The solution is to replace it with something healthier like an addiction to exercise but that takes time.

from 350 here, if you just eat 1200 calories a day you can lose like 40-60 pounds per month. This is what Dr. Now does on 600 pound life.

If you can actually just eat a calorie restriction, you can just get onions and eat it like 3 times per day and it will make sure you don't die on weight loss.

my meal replacement word corrected to onions. But, on the TV show they just eat vegetable stir fry.

Meal replacement is like rice flour, chocolate, and whey protein, with vitamins. I am on and off it right now, I will eat it once a day.

I like having egg for breakfast, I will eat 2-4, then 400 calories of carb for lunch, and 400-800 calorie for dinner -- like a 6oz piece of beef or chicken and vegetables.

You can have 2 options here, you do CICO (calories in calories out), where you just count 1200-1500 calories a day and eat in your limit. Or you can learn how much each food costs calorie wise, and count each food you eat and try to make normal meals in your budget. The latter takes a while, compare to CICO you can just eat a bag of chips for the day.

wild chickens have like 40% of the breast size as modern broiler chickens, like every other animal 70% of the "calories" inside a chicken come from the fat, the reason the breast is disgusting is because it's been artificially bred to be as big as possible since retards are anxious of dietary fat.

Self dev for pussy is cuckmaxxing. I haven't shaved in over 10 years.

Having a massive ZZ Top Gandalf doombeard is fun. Attention from both sexes changed dramatically. Men give me space everywhere, even the most bulky prison tat homos. The most interesting behavior I've witnessed number of times is how betacucks get triggered instantly, and there's no logic to it. Women aren't as open to expressing their interest, tho. It's still there, but like there was this aura of unattainability. Once they've gulped enough liquid courage they can get forward, more often even handsy. The line goes around the age of 25, below that the women are openly very submissive, flirty and eager to please.

Ofc the beard just compliments masculinity, I'm tall with broad shoulders. The added mystery translates to danger and protection at the same time, and is nice for an introvert.

I'd say it's a tradeoff. You save time by not shaving, but sure the grooming takes time. It's fun to oil and braid it at times tho. And having it it totally groomed and braided while wearing a suit is just something else. It really does help in a business setting. It not only makes you assertive, but automatically gives weight to your words. The food part? Just eat civilized. The beard doesn't change that. If you usually get food on your shirt with a beard it just stops on the hairs instead of the fabric. Overall you get used to it. We were meant to have them.

What kind of exercises should I do to make my arms look a bit less like a curse upon my body? Should I lose all the fat first or build muscle as I go?

probably the best way for you to estimate your current body fat is with the Fat free mass index calculator. The average person is likely around 16-18, 1-2 years of lifting should have you between 18-20. Mess around with the body fat% until you get into the range that you fall within and that's probably what body fat% you are. when I started I thought I was probably around 25% body fat. Turns out I was likely at 30-35% body fat instead, because I'm just now reaching the actual 20% bodyfat threshold.

>don’t drink, if you have to, do it one day a week
>lift weights 4x per week
>try to get 10k steps a day if you can
>eat less than 2500 calories a day (or less depending on your height

Instead of doing omad just literally eat some boiled eggs and oats when you get hungry early in the day and ride that until night. Its so much easier than starving and that shit will only be like 400 calories max anyway.

For me I can wake up at 9 and not really get hungry until like 2 or 3 so thats when I eat. Just gotta do what works with your body. Trying to stick some some rigid omad program won't work if your body doesn't like it.

Anon is talking about stuff like rabbit starvation/protein poisoning, which idk if you really need to worry about desu.

The name comes from how some individuals would 'starve' to death in deep winter back in the day because all they could get was lean rabbit. They'd die of malnutrition with their bellies full of rabbit meat because you actually need a certain amount of fat to properly process everything and the meat was so lean they couldn't properly absorb nutrients from it.

With modern access to cooking oils plus nuts or whatever I have a hard time seeing it come up for people in this thread unless you're only eating something like plain, oven baked chicken breast for the bulk of your calories, and that could be solved by leaving the skin on.

1lb lean ground beef/chicken/turkey
taco seasoning / japanese bbq sauce / some other low cal sauce

super easy to weigh and portion out, keeps well in the fridge, doesn't taste completely horrible. Just make sure you track the calories in the seasoning packs / sauces

200cal basmati rice
half a hass avocado diced up
red pepper flakes, sesame seeds

Makes 2 servings of ~700-800 calories each. Around 45-50g protein, healthy fats, carbs. You can add steamed broccoli too for more volume. I eat this like 1-2x a week. Can always sub out the rice for cauliflower rice or something else if you want to avoid carbs.

At some point you need to stop staring at the scale daily and change to weekly and seeing the trend. When doing a recomp it's quite hard to say when you're retaining water, gaining muscle or losing fat, because it's all happening simultaneously under the hood. That's a good moment to start staring into a mirror to catch details and reflect on how you're feeling. As the homo in me would say: you're a lonely sailor who got away from the smug filled shore into open seas. Suddenly you notice the starry sky, a familiarity. No more gps, no radars or maps, you sense where you are, where you're heading.

With that mantlet round up you might just say a solid 7'. 10' would be pushing it, some might start asking questions.

OMAD is kinda suboptimal because you tend to stuff yourself with a large meal(even if only to get enough protein in) and keep your stomach stretched.
For me, intermittent fasting with a short feeding window(2-4 hours) is much better. Break fast with a small meal, and then eat a second one after like 3 hours, maybe snack on some fruit or something in between.
Regardless if doing OMAD or intermittent fasting, make sure your eating window is later in the day, so you go to sleep like 3 hours after eating before you get hungry again.

10 bucks for something you don't need seems expensive. But I'm not gonna crucify you for that. Name of the game is fucking around and finding out. 10 bucks to stay motivated and trying out things is cheap. And you'll gain some benefits, if not for anything else then a placebo effect.

that's what I've been doing. IF works so well with keto too since the food is so satiating

finally found "diet" noodles that don't actually suck
I tried the konjac based ones(those have texture of literal rubber) and pea/lentil flour based ones(once cooked they turned into pasta-shaped mush) before, but these pre-cooked udon noodles from Aldi actually have a texture of real noodles, or actually better than regular pre-cooked udon which is usually too soft
they use pea flour but also extra wheat gluten for the texture
the calories aren't that much lower than regular ones, but they have way better macros, some fiber too
great way to satisfy carb cravings

rinse and repeat until I sent a kid to the hospital at 14 and the kid had to have surgery because I beat him so badly

zero tolerance policies are retarded

12lbs over the top of my age/heights ideal weight.
Somehow 8' wider around the waist than when I was within the top range, though I look okay when standing straight (with a shirt on).
I don't drink anything but water, black coffee, and milk and occasionally (once a week max) go out for drinks. I eat, mostly healthy and tend not to snack. Given I'm poor I doubt I eat my daily calories either.
I "work out" but only moderate stuff. Not sure how I keep getting fatter. It goes without saying I should exercise more/harder tho, so maybe that's where I should start.
Mainly blogging here to sort my thoughts.
