one day, ads will become completely unavoidable that not even something like yt-dlp or any other front ends will work.

this
I've realized that any new content added is complete slop and its only purpose is to keep people sedated with constant flow of "wait, who the fuck actually cares" - type of videos.
I have a backlog of hundreds of educational videos that I need to backup for offline use, also ~20 year old songs and music that one day will absolutely disappear off of the platform never to be seen again.

Pretty sure "closing the loophole" is paying my ISP to throttle me.

My speed has been dropping to a crawl lately whenever I do a wrongthink online. I spent 40 minutes talking to a robot just so I could call a real person a dirty jew and accuse them of throttling me intentionally. They called me a skitzo and denied it of course. They said their techs were working in my area, to which I replied that I just drove by the local backbone and nobody is doing any work there. Then I threatened to report them to the FCC.

Magically my internet speed quadrupled. I hate the anti Christ and denounce the Talmud.

VOCALOID stuff if you aren't familiar with jap distribution platforms.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MKGK7Ma_j8&t=2800s
Music in general too, unironically, but lately they're been hunting down original uploads and deleting those and replacing them with shitty remastered versions. Still a good source for concerts and self-published stuff though.

Everyone needs to remember YouTube is only big because people allow it to be. If YouTube becomes unusable people will just get familiar with other outlets. People are already sick of all the censorship and self censorship people are doing to avoid strikes/demonetization. Every big tech platform is just a MySpace move away from becoming irrelevant. There's nothing but complacency getting in the way of that happening again, but admittedly people have become complacent. Force feeding ads risks the captive audience so they will probably just keep prodding.

One thing that isn't often said is that the content creators themselves will be pissed off too if they have to watch ads on their end too. The big corporate shill channels and (((reviewers))) like MKBHD aka brownandbadtechtips won't bat an eye because they're soulless husks of spam, disinformation, and sponsorships but the real people making honest content the good old fashioned way might just start uploading elsewhere if YouTube pisses them off enough and if that happens, it's over, with no turning back.
Other platforms exist, they're just not being used.

How hard would it be to train an AI to figure when an ad is playing and mute the audio and darken the screen? once they start embedding ads in the video stream and kill proxies in territories without ads that seems like the only bypass left

What will happen is people will share web media the same way we share torrents of movies and games. You'll run a web browser extension that references a list of alternative sources for every URL that serves the content with ads stripped out. Your browser will also cache this version and act as a server to peers.

This. In the future, luxury will be the freedom to direct your own attention.

The masses will be forced to sit through advertisement in order to use all the widely available and "free" services. And I think that pretty soon, ads that are completely unskippable, pausing when you tab or look away, will be more and more common.

There's almost nothing of value on youtube. Tutorials are 99% of the time worthless or subpar advice and 99% of tutorials are just people ripping each other off and regurgitating the same crap over and over again.

You get the best advice from searching for some obscure forum no one has ever heard of or just coming here.

Their primarily killing off their own platform so they have a reason to shutdown youtube for "userbase declining" or "our tech is too old" then all the Pajeets will rename all references to YouTube as "was" on wikipedias. I just starting getting ads on YouTube like yesterday evening.

I've been using uBlock forever without any issues.
A couple of days ago, I had the warning popup, but found some fixes on /g/.

Now the ads are there.
Every video. There are even sponsored videos when I search for something.
It's exactly as if I had deactivated uBlock.

Any idea what the fuck is happening out of the sudden?

The exact opposite actually. Ads are on borrowed time. In the future we will have AI powered adblockers which will replace the ads with a black screen. So even though will have to sit through the ads duration, at least you won't suffer mind rape.

The supply of music is good. There's lots of anons who've uploaded stuff you won't find on spotify or other sites. It can also be fun to follow random people/smaller channels that talks about subjects you like. They don't censor as much as facebook and instagram (despite censoring a whole lot) so there's still controversial political and other taboo discussions that can be worth checking out here and there. But in general i'll agree it's hard to find something worthwhile.

Most people nowadays, even the poorest of them all (perhaps especially them), are uploading absolute garbage riddled with every trick in the book and every trendy tactic so they go viral at the cost of exploiting NPCs attention, looking for a way out of a system they themselves are feeding by trying to escape it. It's just how late stage capitalism it is. Genuine self-expression is dead and buried.

I hate that ads have gone from "try to sell you on something" to "engagement at any cost".

It seems to be born from "as long as people looked at our ad it was a successful campaign". There's no elegance in it.

Plus a lot of websites seem to exist purely to make you look at ads, even if they might bury worthwhile content within that. It's all so aimless and not based on any kind of data.

When it comes to advertising companies the first thing you need to know is that they want to have their cake and eat it too, and any concessions to their victims are temporary at most. I guarantee every single reptile in charge of premium said verbatim "we'll let them pay to not have ads for just long enough to build a subscriber base, and then when we think people won't leave we'll start making them watch ads even though they're paying"

It's truly one of the most vile industries out there, I can think of no other type of person I'd want to punch in the face more if I met them on the street.

I remember when Netflix had the gall to not only bump adds for lower tiers but to increase the price by a good jump, people went apeshit over it.. well, they said they did, then it came out Netflix had the biggest quarter ever, people just stuck with the fucked-up price, these companies know they can drain people and they'll be happy about it :(
and if you try to tell them they are getting fucked people get mad at YOU..

Do these faggot zoomers and alpha gens realize that the reason why we flocked to the internet in the first place was because it was uncensored and completely devoid of corporate control. We preferred youtube because it didn't have any fucking ads that we had to deal with when watching television. Youtube has basically become the new cable TV as in none of the shit they show on it is enjoyable anymore because it's all been watered down and completely sterilized. It's all just bullshit slop made by people with no real creativity. Nothing but reaction channels, review snobs, AI narrator bullshit. Have you started missing actual television shows? Because I sure fucking do. Take true crime content for example. TV crime shows were MAX comfy. The production value was there. The narrator didn't sound like a virgin weeb teen trying to sound ominous and it didn't sound like artificial robotic slop either. It was just nice. Fucking miss TV. Youtube content creators don't know who they're kidding. They couldn't make proper content to save their fucking life.

This dropped today:

This is targeting people who don't pay for premium now. They're hoping that by making ads sufficiently insufferable, giving people a sufficiently cheap cure, and making regular video creators subsidize their broken model (music is exempt because you don't fuck with jews) they can squeeze some more blood out of the stone.

the worst thing would be losing the music library, anytime i want to listen to something there are pretty even odds i can find it on youtube, but i can pirate music. streaming just made it so i didn't have to pirate to listen.

A lot of advertising is more about bribery than actually getting normies to buy things.
For example medical companies, car companies, and tobacco companies (b4 they got banned) would pay big advertising dollars to television networks as an incentive to keep negative press about their fuck ups out of the news cycle.
With something like google itโ€™s an even more convoluted spiderweb of unwritten favors, except itโ€™s wrapped in an extremely opaque defacto monopoly.
The only time putting effort into an ad actually pays off is with kids, who are the only ones actually dumb enough to buy a brand of cereal because they like the cartoon characters.

I mean, I've already started putting my time into twitch instead of youtube anyway after that adblock BS a couple years back.
I've been saying this every time this youtube ad thing come up, whether its adblock related or YT premium related.
MAKE ACCOUNTS ON OTHER VIDEO SHARING SITES.
especially if you are a creator. I mean, why aren't you already doing this? what harm is there in making a video for youtube and then uploading copies of it on other sites. even if it doesn't generate much views or money, it's not like it requires any extra work from you, especially if you own a channel that is backed by a team as your editor can just upload the video to multiple sites.
the immediate benefit is reaching more people and the long term benefit is taking power away from youtube by giving viewers alternative ways to find your content.

If I can't seek forward, then it is a sign I'm in an ad and I can make an extension that automatically mutes and blackens the video stream until I can skip again. Next level: an extension that records the video while cutting out the skipped parts. It will take time to watch each video but for a staunch anti-ad person like myself it is preferable.
>>105546237
They can do the ad embedding on-demand and only then send the video stream to you. It will be resource intensive but it is possible. They can also make non-ad-blocking users receive regular ass ads, and only have a fallback embedded ad for ad-blocking users.
>>105549460
Sponsorblock requires volunteers who mark the sponsorship parts, and is usually only good for big normalfag channels. He also implies that they will make this unskippable somehow.

It shouldn't be resource intensive at all. video streams are made up of chunks, splicing chunks together is basically free.

Make the adkikes choose: you can have subscriptions OR you can have ads, you canโ€™t have both. Whatโ€™s it going to be?
oh, also, Iโ€™d make any technology that exists to combat adblockers illegal, but this is beside the point. If yidtube actually had sense theyโ€™d charge the uploaders for hosting instead of the viewers for accessing

Youtube unironically has an endless amount of content for whatever interest you might have. If you have a hobby, there's an entire community of 'tubers built around it, no matter how niche that hobby may be. If you want to learn something, there's tutorials and educational vids. If you want news updates, there's that. If you want live streams of ongoing things, there's that. If you want to use youtube for music it is extremely good for that as well.

Yeah there's a lot of fluffy garbage on youtube but there's also a ton of great content, not to mention genuinely funny shit, great animations as well. I just watch it on Brave browser which is running Ublock I believe and never have an issue with ads. I've gotten the disclaimer that ads are le bad a couple times here and there but never for more than a day.

Most youtubers get their money not from ad revenue but rather sponsorships, so using an adblocker isn't gonna bust their wallet too much. If you really wanna support them they're always shilling patreon or buy me a coffee or some bullshit. Never paid a youtuber a cent. Well I bought a shirt from a very small channel of some cool dudes years ago, but that's it.

I agree with the sentiment. uBlock & sponsor skip are a must. I, too, will simply quit once ads are embedded into the actual video. It seems like the only thing stopping them from realizing it is creator backlash.

Unfortunately, this is actually the preferable situation for YouTube though, as AdBlock users don't generate any profits and they still generate costs.

Anyone got a ublock filter for this crap?
I try using the filter tool but it goes away before I can accurately highlight the whole element.

Speaking of this, I've been getting the whole "experiencing interruption" issue for months now, it just hardly ever shows the box. Firefox w/ ublock origin. I assume they throttle Firefox clients or something, the video takes a few seconds to load initially while chrome loads instantly. Now that box shows up for virtually every video I watch.

That's the next step and that's what scares me about AR and VR technology. Right now even if ads become unblockable, we can still just turn our attention to something else for a minute, but if VR/AR becomes the dominant form of computers, eye-tracking will mean you can't even do that anymore.

>>105546800
Agreed. Of course taste is subjective, but given the sheer amount of videos and creators on the platform it comes across a bit narrow-minded or elitist for people to say "there's *nothing* there for me".

>>105546943
The "ripping people off" argument doesn't make much sense in the context of educational content. The facts remain the same, and having more people share the facts can only be a good thing. Not only does it give people more access to it, but also increases the variety of presentation, and increases the likelihood that people with more to say on the subject might add to it.

That's already what we have. Even within the same giga platform, everyone is consooming different content streams. Two IG/youtube/X users could experience two completely different "realities" based on what they watch and read every single day. They even shuffle comments around so that comments it thinks you'll agree with are on top while ones it thinks you won't like are buried. That way users feel at ease, thinking the world agrees with them. Except it's feeding different and often conflicting realities to different users.
