I had someone ask if we should switch our web application from Python "to a faster language like PHP" during a meeting. I told him that if he finds any part of the application that is significantly slowed down by Python and not the database, I'd personally rewrite it in Rust.

I've been following a Zig game engine called Mach that has been going nowhere and being written by a likely tranny because they're wearing a mask, and the roadmap is hilarious because it's stuff like rewrite webGPU in Zig and other stuff and they have a massive road map and it was supposed to be done in January 2024.

I'd love for Zig to take off but unfortunately we'll probably just have to wait for Carbon for the true C++ successor

If you're not replacing Python/PHP/JS/old Java shit with C++ or Rust for extreme performance gains when actually needed it's pretty much pointless
Going for an intermediary step like Go or modern Java also feels like wasted effort
I've seen a company spend almost two years replacing a big JS stack with Python and the gain was literally zero
