Is it possible to perfectly sync up all my waterfox stuff from one os to another,
I'm running a dualboot and would like to keep everything including my tabs synced up between folders

Would It be possible to have some sort of file sync for example with a third ntfs drive dedicated to just syncing up folders

You would need a second computer, or some >cloud service
Good news is it can be quite lowspec
Maybe raspiOS/whatever running syncthing (so only the most current is synced)

Some schizo on the lossless scaling trannycord server and a bunch of others tried to tell me that its perfectly fine to run my 4090 on x8 pcie 4.0 and I told them they're insane as I use full VR like Vrchat and DCS, and those scenarios absolutely would hit that lane bandwidth maximum and everyone tried to tell me I was wrong so I called them stupid and left the discord. I'm pretty sure I can just change my bios settings and answer my own question but I'm pretty confident I'm right already. I'm right that I need the full x16 for a 4090 unless its on pcie 5.0 and even then I don't the 4090 would be capable of taking advantage of those 5.0 lanes, so it would still need x16 even then. Right?

I've already read this and it doesn't help me as none of these benchmarks really stress the vram limits of the card, however virtual reality which is effectively trying to drive 2 4k displays strapped to your face all while rendering a LOT of assets at once will push my vram to the limit. Even 24gb is not enough and I'm absolutely one billion percent certain if I ran my card in only x8 mode it would reduce this performance drastically. I don't think you people seem to understand that.

I couldn't get help the previous thread so I'll ask again

I'm using Ublock origin with opera and it has stopped working properly on youtube. It now doesn't block the ads at the beginning og the video, as if they were loading before Ublock had a chance to block them. Luckily pressing f5 consistently gets rid of them and lets me watch the video, and no other ads are shown, buts still slighly annoying

Real answer: don't bother. Nothing works the way it used to. Youtube itself or other "sites" may as well be their own Operating Systems if you want to phrase it that way. Also, eventually you'll end up turning ads back on. Not because moralfag either.

Is the built-in adblocker turned off?

With that done, check in the ublock logger that none of the things entries are getting unblocked (that they're green). You could reapply your filter lists to hopefully stop that, or turn off those problematic filter lists.

If it's not a filter list issue, then realistically, make a post in the github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/issues/27415 thread. If you're using UbO-lite use the other Ubo-lite thread

pcie4 x8 has the same bandwidth as pcie3 x16, and in the benchmarks, there does seem to be a 1~4% average perf drop. And yeah, since the 4090 doesn't support pcie5, running it in x8 will be do pcie4 x8, NOT pcie5 x8. It is perhaps fine to run it in pcie3 x16.

In vram limited cases, bandwidth is important and the pcie version and lanes matter. But if you're vram limited, your performance (and frametimes) is dogshit anyway so whooooo cares.

I right clicked and went to the drop down menu to the ublock option of "block element" and just clicked in the video as it had an ad paused. Then on the list of cosmetic filters I noticed a very suspicious thing (pic related) and clicked Create

nope it didn't work, once I opened another tab and tried again the problem reappeared and an ad showed up, although it is weird how it really seemed to be fixed until I opened youtube in a new tab. I'll go ask in the github thread as you suggest

that said, does anyone know of an alternative to watching youtube like free-tube but that would still allow me to follow the things I'm subscribed to? It could be a good time to try that

Other solution is that I may also try another browser, but I'm using opera after trying many because it was the one that, after testing, used the least memory and resources, although that was years ago

For a single color change it'll probably be easier to just do a bit of CSS rather than messing with theme's xpi (zipped) files (since they're implemented like extensions). Enable toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets in about:config and add this css to the userChrome.css in the profile's "chrome" folder (google if you don't know what this file is)

problem?
if yes = LOCK the computer to prevent this from happening (Windows key + L on Windows to require re-sign in before using)
if no = fuck you, it often is, you should lock it anyway

it running 24/7 shouldn't be a problem but giving roommates or whatever unsupervised access to your machine especially if its an admin account is asking for trouble if they have any malicious intent

you should also be able to set an auto lock timer to require sign in after a period of inactivity so it'll lock if you forget to and you won't forget about it and go to work, have BLM stroll into town, block the roadways, and start looting houses and have tyrone and lakeesha start fingering your keyboard and getting all your accounts because your computer was accessible and unlocked
if criminals get your PC in a booted+unlocked state they can most likely start ordering theyselves dat there 70" telleyvisions and BOSE earpods and ayyPhones with overnight shipping at your expense delivered to they address so a little security goes a long way even if you just set your login password to something simple like alllivesmatter 99% of thieves won't get past a login screen

You need to ask yourself why you even need a GPU on a system that already has integrated graphics.
What are you going to use it for? If you just want new technology (hardware decoding) you should just buy whatever the cheapest newest thing is that has what you need, but if you're looking for horsepower (games or running 3D apps) you'll have different needs.

Also which 9020 form factor? Are you still using the OEM power supply and case or did you transplant its guts (CPU MOBO RAM) into an ATX case where you have room for fullsized shit?

Mini-tower, i7-4790, 8gb RAM DDR3 iirc, OEM PSU
Sorry I should've probably gone into more gross detail in the original post but I wanted to keep it brief for readability. My purpose is just to bring my rig up to more modern standards (obviously im limited by the CPU and my general budget). My line of thinking at the moment is either that I should upgrade the PSU and buy a better, newer card (eyeing a $180 GTX 3050 atm) or that I buy an older, used card and use the remaining money on more hardware upgrades like RAM and whatnot.
I'm not sure what "older and used" cards would be good for this PC however

the more I think about it the more it seems like tagging might be the answer
I guess the combination of moving things into subfolders where appropriate (broad categories) and then tagging is probably ideal

somewhere I have a funny video of a frog jumping off a bridge and idk how I'd find it in the mess but if I tagged it with frog and bridge I think I'd be able to locate it instantly. A \Funny\ or \Animals\ folder would still require browsing and a bunch of clicks so maybe tags really are the fix I need

right now I can find what I'm referring to by looking for it online along with most things, but it's not the same
the files I have are free from "commentators" and watermarking faggots and usually higher quality than what's readily available online because it hasn't been re-saved and re-uploaded countless times, the shit I saved was closer to the source especially with the rioter memes people were uploading here to 4chan since they had access to the original streams/uploads that have long since been removed

for example this is hideous and not at all close to the quality of what I saved, but it was from the same video

Quick format just writes basic partition data to disk, this is generally quite quick
Full format also "zeroes" the whole disk, which CAN be used to find bad sectors before they find you

If you know your drive has no bad sectors or don't care, a quick format is likely all you need
[Zeroing may not truly be all zeros, to help make sure the drive knows exactly where it is like numbers on a clock]

Maybe not if your target is 24 FPS.
For anyone who wants playable framerate, the CPU is the most important component in a gaming system.

You can turn graphics down and maintain high FPS with a weak GPU but when your CPU is inadequate it's just game over. Forever bad FPS.
NVIDIA shills like to convince people to spend less on a CPU to buy a better GPU but that's a load of shit for most cases. You need a good CPU for gaming, anyone saying otherwise is retarded. The only alternative is to play older games but to say CPU isn't an issue in most cases is a bold lie.

if you encrypt a file with 7zip or aescrypt you can open the resulting encrypted archive in sublime text in its hexadecimal representation and modify it manually (e.g. delete a few lines of hex and keep them in a log file)

this will corrupt the archive to the point where it can't be extracted anymore, even with the correct password.

i'm too shy to make a thread about this, but isn't this a simple way to add another layer of security to already encrypted files, if you keep the logfile (which you need to undo the modifications) offline?

I'm assuming /g/ is the place for media production questions, I don't come here too often to know for sure.

DaVinci resolve is seemingly skipping rendering the last frame in the timeline which is causing a GIF I'm making to appear to hitch on the loop. This appears to be affecting actual videos as well but it's obviously not an issue when it's not intended as a seamlessly looping file. Is this a known issue with a solution or am I just retarded for trying to make a seamless loop in DaVinci? All I can seem to find is people wanting to loop a gif over a normal timeline.

What matters is the reader itself so we can't give you a proper answer without the model number for the card reader.

>Why would the NAS failing cause the data to be lost, wouldn't the drives still work even if the NAS itself doesn't unless it like explodes?
Anon, the NAS can fry your drives or fuck its config up or die, and have your data reliant on getting a replacement NAS that may (or may not) successfully recovery the array.
The NAS+drives inside are a single point of failure.

>Also, if I'm using all 4 bays in the NAS, how do I back that data up to another drive?
To something not inside or attached to the NAS.

>Should I just buy a single bay DAS and slap a big drive into that and connect it to a PC and then transfer the files from the NAS to the DAS?
Yes, that works, but a better idea is a docking station and multiple HDDs pop one in, backup, remove and shelve it, pop the other in, and back up. Rotate backups occasionally so you have at least three separate copies of your data with one air gapped at all times.

Lightning strikes happen and people usually lose everything connected to power or any wire (even USB or even ethernet) and that is why you want one copy to be air gapped and completely unplugged.

>I heard USB DAS's aren't reliable for data transfer, though
They are for for the most part. Just not for live systems, the warnings people give are to prevent people from using a raspberry Pi as their NAS and using a multi-bay DAS for their array. For simple use like plugging a drive in, turning it on, and writing data most are fine.
Just avoid the EC-DFLT and similar models from SABRENT and you should be fine. Alternatively you can buy a hotswap bay to fit in a 5.25" bay and slot drives into your PC via SATA to your motherboard instead, without USB.

PCI-E revisions are also kind of irrelevant unless you need lots and lots and lots of throughput for the actual game assets.
If your card has enough VRAM to hold assets you won't be fucked by slower PCI-E speeds becuse once they load in, they stay, but many AAA slop games will be bloating the memory bandwidth with nonsense so it can reduce FPS and cause stutters in worst case scenarios.

Even back in the PCI-E 2.0 days people usually never had issues running cards in x8 slots instead of the x16 ones, this has always been something that's overhyped and often irrelevant in the real-world.

Honestly, why do you care?
I'm not saying you need a real reason curiosity is fine enough but when the smallest logical sector for our storage devices has been 512 since forever, being 96 is small enough to be virtually equal to 1 byte so it shouldn't really matter. A bit of overhead seems fine considering it still has to store the x,y size colorspace alpha, and bit depth info.
Have you compared it to the smallest bitmap size by any chance? Whatever that might be?

If you need tiny PNGs for whatever reason you might be better off creating a canvas with multiple pixels that you read from. 1x1 solid color PNGs seem niche but I've seen small tiles like 16x16 be used for things. Just not 1x1.

It's mainly to do with the faculty. Some teachers just want to bully students, others genuinely want to teach. Good schools have more of the latter, and so even if the material is "the same", the way it's taught is more engaging and involved in better schools vs worse ones.
Better teachers also means you'll be more willing to ask questions without being scolded or feeling hopeless, and students are more well behaved and less likely to be shitty themselves (rude/ineffective teachers always bring out the worst in students, without fail).

In the end you can learn everything you've ever learnt from school at home by yourself with the internet and your local library, but that means not being fully sure you even know what you're learning, because you're having to teach yourself how to teach yourself, as well as how to learn, which is also the case at shitty schools that just want you to remember the exam answers and not learn the material.

My parents have a massive home cinema TV in the living room from the late '90s that they still use today.
Every time I visit and want to watch something, I have to use three or four different remotes... one to turn on the TV, another for the decoder, a third for Netflix, and so on. Frustrating stuff.

Is there some kind of universal remote I can program to control all the devices?
Is such a thing possible?
Anonymous No.105610844 >>105610975
>>105610558
Yeah it's possible, these are just IR signals and they almost certainly don't use any sort encryption or obfuscation because why would you (especially in the 90s)
But all the "universal remotes" that I know of work by trying to emulate existing remotes using some sort of standard. I don't know if there's any chance a set from the 90s would still be compatible. I don't know if there's an existing "universal remote" that allows you to do something like record your normal remote and then replay those signals. So you might have to reverse-engineer it manually.
In theory, it's as simple as an IR sensor, an IR blaster, some microcontroller of your choice (raspi zero, esp8266, some arduino, whatever), and the know-how and time to put it all together.

Or look it up and maybe you'll find a remote that does actually allow you to record and replay custom remote signals.

>>105610844
>I don't know if there's any chance a set from the 90s would still be compatible
IMO it's very likely. There's like two or three "standards" in existence and everyone just copies the functionality. Although not everyone uses the same codes transported by those standards, hence you have to "program" the universal remote.

Because they work in different ways, and this in turn affects how linux programs work. So the actual programs then have to adapt and do things in different ways. Some people don't like one or the other's way of doing things and don't like the way it affects the programs they use, or just straight up don't like how they work.

Meanwhile there's a limited number of dev effort being spent on everything, so people don't like it when devs work on the option they dislike. Add to that the fact that the main big organisation that's funding most of the development is outspokenly political and a lot of people have started hating them.

Make a program that is two .c files, working as you describe, but instead of C & C you have C and asm. use gcc on each of the C files, but use the option to output asm (.a) instead of object files. These will be in gas-syntax. Now, use nasm the --gas-input and --listing options, which will convert the gas to .asm. Looking at the files will then tell you how the assembly part must be written to be callable by C. It's about stack frames. Hard to explain but you can figure it out. have nasm make the obj and then link the two obj files using gcc.

Now you can go back and make a .c & .asm that you can link into one executable that will run correctly.

I'm so sick of motherboard creep.
What are the chances we see powerful boards without bloat on them in the future?
Literally all that's needed is a base for the CPU to slot in, 4 rear USB ports, and some PCI-E slots.
No onboard sound. That shit is trash, nobody uses it, and GPUs (including onboard) support audio over HDMI/DP so sound cards built-in to the board are redundant now. No onboard Wi-Fi, it's a motherboard for fucks sake if you're building it you can run ethernet. Wi-Fi is for laptops or added in later.

ATX form factor seems big for no good reason anymore.

multiband gating.

split the recording into several bands, at least four. if you have the tie, go for like ten bands (one band per octave). Run a noise gate on each band separately, with different settings. Trial and error to get it right for each band. Combine the bands back together.

Takes forever and results may vary. I've gotten excellent results *some* of the time.

No, a NAS is a whole computer system meant to serve data over the network.
HDD docks are simpler devices that require a host. You plug them into your desktop to access the drives. They're essentially a way to make HDDs easy to attach/detach from a computer. Nothing fancy.

> I'm not buying a second NAS just to back up the first one
Honestly consider it though if you can find the money for it. It's not a bad idea.

>Or a multi bay DAS? but I heard multi bay USB DAS's are unreliable?
Multi bay DAS units have quirks but are fine for basic use especially for simple backups.

>>105617000
.Can you clarify on this?
They work in a non-standard way.
If you format in a SABRENT EC-DFLT dock and write data, then try plugging the HDD in to a NAS or computer or other dock that isn't the SABRENT shit, the data won't be readable.
Also if you have drives with data on them, you can't read them in a SABRENT.
Basically avoid at all costs. Nothing but trouble.

I know that bottlenecking has a lot of factors and its kinda like diagnosing a car problem due to how many systems and factors can affect it.
