5080.

Thanks bros. I'm going to drop by microcenter tomorrow and see what they say. Maybe they have a machine they can test it with. Hopefully it works there.

The PCIe slot on my MB was scuffed. Bad enough to where I think it's what caused this damage, but not bad enough that I thought something was wrong when I was putting in the GPU. Skill issue I guess. Sad.

The 13600kf I boughted nearly 2 weeks was a very good buy. Cinnebench r23 score of 27000, was even able to get the vcore to under 1.3v going full throttle

'd have liked to have seen you get 8 P-Cores, but in honesty it should be fine. Are you in the US and if so how much did you pay for it? The 14600K is $164 right now so if the price is better and you're still inside the return window might be worth the swap if you can save some money for slightly better perf as a drop-in replacement in your system:

13/14600kf have the same number of cores and are basically the same once you start overclocking aren't they? Looking at the scores on different benchmarks it looks like the average is like 2-4% for the 14th gen but the both top out at basically the same scores. Looking at passmark looks like the 99% is actually 1000 points lower than the 13th gen
I got it for $165, I spent like 4 hours total dialing in the oc, not going to bother swapping it out until the i9s are going for 3rd world prices used, hopefully the degradation thing is sorted out by then.

Yeah they are basically the same +/- 2-3%, I was mostly concerned you overpaid for the i5, but sounds like you got a good deal so enjoy. As long you updated to the latest bios that has the latest microcode updates included you should be fine degradation-wise.

I know it's difficult for the shallow of soul to consider things outside of their narrow box but some of us look towards the bigger picture. Rewarding these companies for making terrible products does no one any good in the long run. We have only ourselves to blame, if we had been willing to put off short term pleasure we could have forced these companies to do the right thing instead of telling them they can get away with murder. But you being nothing but an internet troll don't care about that, because why should you? You've already accepted the mediocre path in life and are happy to let corporations walk all over you.
You'll reply with some snide quip to this post, but deep down we both know which one of us is right.

Anyone know what the fuck happened to all these? there are truck loads of p40s and p4s still available but these guys seem to be utter vaporware and almost like a mindala effect gpu that never actually existed despite everyone saying it did.

Did they rebrand these all as a different card? getting basically a pascal full height single slot version of what is the modern a4000 is highly desirable to me especially since no one wants to sell the p4 for less than 130 state side. I can just get the p4 anyway but I wanted to see if I could get a better single slot card for my money

FSR 4 via optiscaler works in most games even nvidia tech demos like alan wake 2, cyberpunk, black myth wukong etc.
Daniel Owen even made a video about it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEcESQhJVfE

The common man doesn't have to pay the ngreedia tax anymore to get an upscaler with good image quality. RDNA 4 chads will be modding FSR 4 into all your sponsored nvidia exclusive games and there is nothing you can do about it nvidiot.

Open source modding won. RDNA 4 won. Radeon won. AMD won. Jack Huynh
won. Lisa Su won. And most importantly gamers won.

I have an issue with my newly built pc on windows 11, where things like videos (regardless of which video player is used) and programs played from a newly purchased internal HDD (not the C: drive containing my operating system which is an SSD) will sometimes keep hanging for a short while (5 to 15 seconds). It happens at irregular intervals. I have 2 HDDs and they both seem to have the exact same issue, so I doubt it's a hardware issue. I changed the power settings to never turn off the hard disk, but this didn't help. I also changed the SATA cables, but this also didn't help. If anyone has any idea what the issue could be or what I should test for to find the exact issue or cause, input would be greatly appreciated.

That is mostly in the early days of oled and the crux of it is true - you shouldn't run a refresh more often than the manufacturer says (which these days is often 4 hours) but there is also the nuance of pixel refresh - which is the every 4 hours - and the panel refresh which is a much more extreme "cleaning" (for want of a better term) that is primarily used to tackle actual burn in.

I got myself an older HP tower, but the fan headers aren't being detected in linux, I doubt they'd be exposed in windows either but I figure to silence the machine I'll probably have to go through the process of either using a fan controller and probably replacing the case fan and cpu cooler.
For CPU cooler it'll end up being one of the noctua or thermaltake low profile style fans either 90/120mm, that can come later but before that, the fans need to be dealth with. the rear fan I can replace with a noctua, but that doesn't stop the fan headers sending an overkill amount of current/voltage.

What are the options like for cheap fan controllers in 2025?
It's been 20 years since I had to use one that went in my drive bay, any powered off of pcie1 or that use internal usb headers for control? I'm even fine with knobs I can turn manually from the rear of the desktop as the machine isn't going to be going through heavy processing loads.
I don't mind aliexpress, ebay, would rather avoid amazon.
The first thing I found was an older corsair product, the icue commander, that allows for software adjustment with a kernel module, but even just either a controller that can be detected by linux or knobs is fine.
I'd rather not spend tonnes on this.

My alternative is putting it in a cupboard or hallway and using long USB cables and displayport cables, that solution sucks!

After scratching my head a bit I realised I had reset my bios earlier in the day (ram overclocking that went sideways) and be default my mobo turns rebar off. Turn it back on and boom, suddenly back to 180fps smooth frames.

Yeah, I saw that.
It appears to use the motherboards own fan headers for control. That's the kind of hub or controller I'd be trying to avoid, since the motherboards fan headers aren't exposed for control outside of the bios (and they seem to be pretty cranked up).
I don't yet know how hard other fans will be driven when they're replaced down the line.

It would need to be something that either the controller can be exposed to the system itself through USB, PCI etc or have physical knobs or controls that can be adjusted manually.

Yeah, unfortunately none of them are exposed for control.
'swhy I'd need to look at older style controllers like the bay fan controllers of old. I know that over the last decade more and more fan controllers for internal use have come around, so trying to find a solution like that if someone knows of one.

That arctic controller would be perfect if it had a little knob on it so you could turn down the outputting, rather than replicating it.

I seem to have found at least one controller that has a potentiometer so hopefully that'll do it for now until I can replace the fans later down the line.

i would chose drive+enclosure any time. simply because if you mess-up the enclosure somehow (i.e. port damage or whatever) - you just take you're drive out and drop into new enclosure. also, if you even decide to use that m2 internally - again, you just take it out of enclosure and put on you're mobo. with those custom proprietary enclosures it is either gonna be a pain in the ass or impossible because of bullshit soldering of custom connectors.

still, i want to get him a card as he's just using my old 2060 which isn't that good for a lot of modern games.
i find myself stuck between a 9060xt and a 5060ti.
i've stuck with nvidia for years after a bad experience with an AMD card but now that the shoe is on the other foot i don't want to get him a card that will fail him.
i've seen a few benchmarks and they seem to be within range of each-other but i'm having doubts.

That price isn't worth it. See if your local Microcenter has a 9060 for $350, maximum, if you really want that card.
The 9060's performance is basically close to the late Radeon 6000 cards, which was like 2 AMD generations ago and who knows how many Nvidia generations ago.

Both 5060Ti and 9060XT, including the 16GB configs, are underwhelming in that context.
They offer around 3070Ti (with more VRAM) or 6800 non-XT levels of raster performance.

AMD and NVIDIA GPUs have very different chip architectures, that's why their compute core counts are drastically different.
AMD GPUs are more reliant on REBAR for performance, whereas NVIDIA GPUs aren't.
Some games run worse with REBAR enabled on GeForce cards.
That's why REBAR is an opt-in selection for GeForce cards.

>If I have enough redundant parts around to build a ship of theseus second rig
Problem with that is you'd have a complete system which includes the case, thus it is going to be kinda big and shipping pc cases is bullshit expensive more often than not. You'd have to run the numbers yourself but parting it out is often more economical and just having the case effectively free to a good home as long as it is collected is the lesser of the two evils.

Yeah this isn't a good look like you think it is njudea shill. GeForce software team has been undergoing pajeetification more and more as nvidia moves more and more focus to AI and their data center products. We are just finally seeing it worse than ever before with 50 series disaster drivers.

All that chart shows Radeon GPU performance is more dependent on REBAR compared to NVIDIA.
What matters to end-users is the real-time FPS for the games they play.
A larger portion of a GeForce GPU's die area is taken up by RT & Tensor cores compared to the AI & RT cores in any modern Radeon GPU.

Yet Radeon GPUs can't convincingly beat their RTX equivalents in raw raster performance in every title.
Not to mention the AMD optimization priority is given because the consoles use these chips.

x3d cpu will make difference depending on game. single core (something old) / poorly optimized. in some cases even x3d will not help. see world of warcraft as example - engine is so bad that no matter what you throw at it - it will never run good.

90% of games no. Maybe you'd get a bottleneck on some esports shit or something at all low settings. I have zen 3 5900x and 9070 xt and in single player UE5 games with all the eye candy graphics maxed out I dont have a bottleneck. It depends entirely on the game.

You don't want your video card to be at 100% utilization, that will increase system latency because the latest frame data sent by the CPU is stuck in a render queue.
GeForce's Reflex and Radeon's Anti-Lag 2 are set up to run the video card as hard as possible (~97%) without a system latency penalty.

This isn't just beneficial for competitive shooters, single-player games will also run more responsively to your control inputs.

Utilization doesn't tell the full story and just because you aren't at 100% doesn't mean you are bottlenecked or at least not heavily so. As you can see in pic related it says 97% in both but going to 1080p the fps increased a lot so clearly this game like most UE5 slop is mostly GPU bound. You have 7700x which is a decent bit faster than my 5900x in gaming so I wouldn't worry about it but like I said it depends entirely on the games you play. Some games like space marine 2 are heavier on the cpu and I am a bit bottlenecked in that one but the fps is still acceptable so I don't really care. As long as you are getting performance you are happy with that's what really matters.

consoles are running amd. so following that logic, since PS already added FSR4 (rebranded) - you are also future-proofed with amd card.
this is literally choosing between apples and oranges for anything below 5080 because amd does not have an equivalent for that yet.
both brands are very similar for gayming and only intel is sucking hard right now with their gpus.
nvidia is doing better with ai-workloads (again, just for now - amd is trying to catch-up), so if you don't care about anything than gayming - just buy whatever.
keep only one rule in mind - dont go for 8 gig gpus and stick to 16+ gigs ones.

I'm a man with an DDR4 motherboard with two sticks of Crucial Basilisk 32gb, 3600mhz, cl16, 16-18-18-38 timed ram.

One of the sticks died, and they no longer make that memory anymore. If I replaced them with 3600mhz cl18 ram with 18-22-22-42 ram timings, would the performance drop be noticeable?

9cm = 92mm fans
12cm = 120mm fans
14cm = 140mm fans

14cm mounts are rare, and as you noticed, you will need some sort of anti sag device to keep the fans from drooping if you use 2 or more fans.

Image quality is also better with DLSS. Usability is better with CUDA cores. The only thing better with the 9070XT is the price but not by enough to justify the poor value.

https://www.reddit.com/r/G502MasterRace/comments/irdc2x/ive_had_my_g502_for_so_long_the_g_led_has_turned/
this for as long as I can remember (so maybe not at the very start, but I don't remember), and I never figured out why.
Thing is, it's not actually pure green. Every single LED in the 4 blue+green pairs still works, it just feels as if the green overpowers the blue when it's probably supposed to be the opposite. Better yet, unlike in the leddit screenshots, the DPI lights (if always-on) have the same issue and all share the same too-green hue, so it doesn't just look like failing leds.

So what the fuck? Should I assume it's a firmware bug or something?

This is the most comprehensive review from daniel owen with over 100 benchmarks and it's a less than 5% performance difference. Which card wins go back and forth a lot depending on the game.
https://youtu.be/UoZnL4gbc9Y?feature=shared&t=1796
>21% faster in RT
Those reviews included few games and they were mainly done on nvidia sponsored path tracing titles like black myth wukong and alan wake 2. Daniel Owen found that in non path tracing RT which is most RT games Nvidia doesn't really have an advantage. FSR 4 Redstone is also coming later this year which will improve pathtracing performance and erase or greatly reduce this one advantage that the 5070 ti has.
>Image quality is also better with DLSS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU8QI3wILho
25 minute long video of actual gameplay in motion not zoomed in 500 percent still images anyone can judge for themselves. FSR 4 is better than DLSS 3 and very close to DLSS 4. Practically the same image quality. There are some things FSR 4 does better and will keep more stable then DLSS 4 even with it's hybrid model and there are things DLSS 4 is better at. Both very good and usable.

Doesn't take a genius to understand the games favoring the 9070XT in Owen's chart are disproportionately optimized for AMD's console APUs.

>Doom: Dark Ages
Built from the ground up to ensure Series S owners can play the game @ 60FPS.

>Monster Hunter Wilds & Oblivion Remastered
Everyone knows these are unoptimized trash heaps, this isn't an opinion.

>AC: Shadows
Ubisoft couldn't afford this game to have bugs or crashes for consoles. Priority was clearly on console performance.

Spiderman 2 favors NVIDIA because Sony spends tens of millions of dollars porting these titles to the PC, and the engineers at Insomniac has gotten better at these console ports since Rift Apart.
