Really hard choice to make between both. I personally would go with the Corsair hx1200i since it's 12vhpwr cable breaks out into two 8-pins and have a lower risk of also melting on the PSU side

Corsair HX is a top-class unit, you can't lose with either choice.
You can also buy Corsair's 90ยฐ cable that's compatible with that PSU (if it's not included).
You need to pick the right type if you get a 90ยฐ cable (plug orientation difference and PSU type support).

That question is way out there... Maybe?
Coil whine is very fickle and I've heard that having bad cable-gpu contact can increase coil whine as seen by people who have swapped between the octopus connector and a native 12vhpwr cable with the latter having less coil whine

The hotspot temps are driving me crazy. I don't know if I made a mistake buying the ASRock Steel Legend because that thing can hit 95ยบC (usually stays at 90ยบC) hotspot easily. The problem is all the higher end cards are noisy, gigantic and well over 100โ‚ฌ MSRP.
I've read plenty of times that these are normal but I'm still worried.

I honestly wouldn't overthink it
The better they place the thermal sensors, the higher the reported temps would be. Old GPUs without this sensor were simply assumed to have 105C hotspots under load and were throttled way below what could've been possible due to this assumption.

It's mostly corporate orders or prebuilt sales.
285K is hard to justify for DIY builders unless they need Quick Sync or they're just too used to Intel CPU tuning.

We have all seen stuff like this, but these tables often cost a lot and large touchscreens aren't cheap either.
I'm wondering if I could use something like a touch frame (https://www.amazon.com/Chengying-Points-Multi-Touch-Infrared-Touch/dp/B07RQH8BT4) and a ceiling mounted projector to emulate the experience.
Do you guys think it's a dumb idea?

I have no experience with projectors, but I assumed things like image size could be configured to reach a specific size at a specific distance.
As per cable management, that could be solved by having HDMI over WiFi and a battery pack for the projector.
Or you could mount the projector on a monitor arm atop the table.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Cons of the projector solution is having to be in the dark and shadows being cast onto the table when your hands are over it. Scope could quickly balloon out if you don't have a ready solution on the software side. Sounds like a fun project regardless.

On the software side I can already use Foundry VTT, it has a plugin which implements touch support for the use case of those very tables.
Since the frame and projector would simply end up emulating a touchscreen display it should work seamlessly.

40 inches touch frame on top of this specific table: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/vittsjoe-nesting-tables-set-of-2-black-brown-glass-80215332/
It's already glass, it's cheap, and most importantly it's in 16:9 aspect ratio with a 40 inches diagonal, and has a surface to place a projector on.
Now I need to study up on projectors to pick the best one for this use case.

From benchmarks I have seen, fsr4 really flops in terms of FPS, DLSS 3/4 offers 30% more fps compared to native (and I don't think the profiles make a huge differenc), while FSR 4 is a minor increase even with performance mode, FSR 3 offers better fps.

LAN, Wireless, Bluetooth, Audio, and USB.
You can download the Chipset and VGA (iGPU) drivers either from the board manufacturer or directly from AMD.
AMD usually has the more up to date drivers, board manufacturers share what they've verified to work.

OS question:
i'd like to make a build with a focus on emulation up until switch 1 and ps4 plus gaming and maybe yt too. i used pretty much linux only for years on thinkpads.
what's better for my usecase, linux or windows? my plan is to keep this desktop separate from the other desktop / laptop i want to keep secure and private where linux will be installed (still useful for other stuff like managing servers)

os choice depends on emulator availability and it's quality, most-likely you will need to dual-boot just for the sake of choice (i.e. some emulators might be newer or work faster but exist only on one os)
for this you might want x3d cpu because emulators typically love single core performance, cache, and bandwidth - again, depending on the emulator it might not utilize gpu at all so all heavy lifting will be done by cpu
you say up to switch and up to ps4 - well, that is basically all known consoles besides current gen - so it depends which one you want

Exact figures are proprietary information, even NVIDIA's thermal guidelines shared with board partners don't disclose the memory chip's Tjunction Max.
The outer shell (case) temperature limit is usually 95ยฐC, and the chip's hotspot can/will run hotter.
Pic is about Micron's GDDR6X thermal specs but it's a similar concept.

The memory chip's performance will thermally throttle before it gets close to dangerous temps, like crypto miners noticing hash rate reduction @ higher temps.

The engineers @ NVIDIA knows better than anyone else that RT/PT is very taxing on real-time 3D rendering performance.
They're pushing the tech to make use of the RT & Tensor cores in the GPU (need to use upscaling to improve RT'd gaming performance).

>'Why the fuck did they add RT cores in these chips?'
It's less profitable to design a dedicated gaming GPU, GeForce chips inherit the core architecture from workstation GPUs.
There are professional use cases for those RT cores and NVIDIA decided it's worth meeting those needs.

Newegg is having a summer promotion to sell unpopular Intel Arrow Lake CPUs & motherboards (Core Ultra 7/i7 CPU, motherboard, and 16GB DDR5 memory for $400).
The savings are pretty significant and I recommend you buy it if you're looking to trim costs.
>decently upgradeable
The only bad part about this deal is this new Intel platform will only have an Arrow Lake refresh generation later this year, so your upgrade options are limited.

Add these items to the cart and you'll see the combo discount being applied. It has no affiliate links, I'm just sharing a deal.
https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-ultra-7-265kf-arrow-lake-lga-1851-desktop-cpu-processor/p/N82E16819118507?Item=N82E16819118507
https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-z890-aorus-elite-x-ice-atx-motherboards-intel-intel-z890-lga-1851/p/N82E16813145525?Item=N82E16813145525

The savings from those CPU components can help you buy a better video card.
I don't recommend you spend $1000 on a 5070 Ti (sane maximum should be around $850 for better models), but I'm just showing you how much room the CPU bundle gives you.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kdLMQd

You can drop down to a 5070 12GB or a 5060 Ti 16GB. 5070 has a notably stronger GPU, but the 5060Ti has more VRAM.
It doesn't seem like you can find any 5070 12GB @ MSRP, Newegg is offering $90~160 store gift card credit for these purchases, but you don't know how soon they'll apply the store credit for you.

This 5060Ti 16GB model is a bit overpriced ($430 base MSRP), but there aren't that many better alternatives.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/M64Pxr/asus-prime-geforce-rtx-5060-ti-16-gb-video-card-prime-rtx5060ti-16g

I can share an AMD build if you're interested too.
If you want to save some/a lot of money, check out some Radeon 9060 XT 16GB and 9070/XT cards.

That 5070 in the list will charge $700 pretax from his credit card btw.
He needs to buy that video card separately from Newegg, receive the store credit, and shop for additional parts at the store.
The unknown is how quickly Newegg provides that $150 store credit.

good morning sirs. I'm finally going to upgrade from my 1660s and 1080p. Is there any downsides to pairing a 5060ti or 9060 xt with a 4k monitor? I know I won't be able to run most games at native 4k but I'd run them at 1440p (or 4k with dlss? idk).

You don't need an 850W PSU for that build, but if you're planning to carry it over to a new system that's fine.

I don't recommend this video card + monitor resolution if you're going to play a lot of competitive titles, watch/read some reviews to get an idea of the 4K performance.
The GPU in these cards is around the 3070Ti's strength + 16GB VRAM.

No, you just have to follow the instructions carefully and be patient.
It's not bad on AM5 because AMD requires all B650 and higher tier boards to have an easy BIOS update feature.
There are video guides out there, search for something like "MSI AM5 BIOS Flash guide".

I would check reviews for these monitors.

Acer Acer Nitro XV272U W2bmiiprx ($230, best value)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K7ioTEieps (this might not be the exact model)

Gigabyte M27Q-X ($320)
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/gigabyte/m27q-x

LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B ($355 from Beach Camera, Amazon Marketplace)
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/27gr83q-b

Asus TUF Gaming VG27AQML1A ($370)

Last year's tier list by Techless
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBtsyA2tvD4

I like the LG monitor, Beach Camera is also a legitimate business.
https://www.beachcamera.com/
M27Q was a commonly recommended 165Hz monitor when it sold below $300.

Nah, it's the same GB203 chip with a different stock boost clock, power limit, and code name engraving.
The additional GDDR7 capacity isn't difficult to implement, some professional repairmen and XOCers have modded in higher capacity memory chips for the 3070 and other cards.
https://videocardz.com/newz/modded-geforce-rtx-3070-with-16gb-memory-gets-major-1-low-fps-boost

>I just want minimal response times and ghosting
IPS's are smeary and laggy and even the new 240hz one from LG is not fast, of which you have a grand total of 1 monitor to choose from
they are now competing with 240hz oleds which are effectively 360hz in lcd clarity once you account for the motion clarity, no 4k 360hz ips exist in this range and even if it did it would not refresh the pixels in the time window making it a true 360 display
so now you are relegated to 144-160hz IPS slop which I would assume you know would be inferior to 360hz

if what your claim is your goal you are taking a giant step down because of your autism and obsession about things
I mean you can get a cheapo 4k144-160 ips 27" slopper for like 300 bux which is crazy cheap like the gigabyte ones
but lettuce be real tea they are not competing against the 1k oled memes

>>105700767
I am there are no other alternatives in the 42" range
LG oleds also now have the dithering meme apparently that fuck up pq
but they are still cheap
but if you really wanna tvmaxx you need to step up to 55" minimum for more brightness

The LG 27GR83Q-B has hardware color calibration support, better console compatibility (HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, 4K 120Hz through HDMI), and GSync Compatible certified by NVIDIA.
If you're planning to own this monitor for a long time (at least 6~8 years) I would pay the extra for the LG monitor.

It's fine but there's a newer model (Q27G40XMN) with over 3x the local dimming zones.
The sad thing about the new model is you need to be lucky to win the firmware lottery.
If your Q27G40XMN is part of the bad batch, you can't use the best local dimming zone setting (Strong) when you toggle on HDR.

I'm doing some Spring cleaning, and I have one of these to sell, but I can't figure the price.

It's a Sapphire Pulse 5600xt, from covid-era, the only card I could get at the time.
It's clean, nothing wrong with it. But it's also kind of wimpy, 6GiB vram, etc.

None of my family members or friends want it. Anyone who's interested in this kind of stuff already has something better.
Partly I feel like I should just make up a price, and whoever shows up to get the thing, just give it to them for free.
