I have never worked with jeets
Feels good to live in Eastern europe
>>105700928 (OP)>Writing computer code in a paper notebookDumb bitch
>>105700950I just managed to get a job at a company that doesn't have a single jeet among 40 employees. Never seen that before. Garbage domain and meme ai tech, plus heavily woman-dominated company and I know how fucked up working with women can be, but I am looking forward to starting this anyway
>>105700950>team gets new scrum master>she's a jeet>HER NAME IS LITERALLY RAJEETA I SWEAR I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP>dark swarthy skin and unintelligible accent>she's responsible for creating user stories>but she's a jeet and cannot spell english>whole team sits in agony while she tries to sound out basic English words but still spells them incorrectly>i m p l u m e n t>s i n c r o n i s e>p i p e l i g n>m a i n t a i n a n t s>on and on and on>someone else volunteers to create the stories because we're literally wasting 15 minutes every meeting watching her make spelling mistakes and typing at 10 wpm but she refuses and we end up spelling all these words out for her>has been going on for 3 weekskill me now
>>105701145who cares retard, just use Ai to fix the typos later
>>105701159The typos aren't really the problem
The problem is we have to suffer through her incompetency every meeting. Do you know how agonizing it is to watch an illiterate jeet type for an hour?
>>105701159low iq take
>>105701145who cares retard this is time you're paid to sit around doing nothing and you can even blame her for being incapable of speaking and writing when anyone asks why your progress is slow while you deliberarely stop working on issues at the speed you used to (so long as at least one more person in the team is in on it OR you record at least one meeting to back your story)
>>105701145Sounds like your business office made the correct hiring decision. Wasting your time with bullshit is the foundation of agile. It sounds like you have some concerns about our industry-standard practices; let's chat about this offline, my calendar is up to date.
All Mighty thank you for everything, please guide me and give me strength to protect people.
>>105700798Good luck anon (unless you're indian)!
>>105700928 (OP)That famous headline is fake. No, that woman did not write all of that per hand. Those are printed books with different versions of the same code that the team she was part of worked on.
https://www.reddit.com/r/badhistory/s/k7ivrGruQy
>>105700928 (OP)Moon landing is fake.
>>105701145In a real world she'd be fired for failing to speak English, and then the person who hired her would also potentially get fired for incompetence.
>>105700928 (OP)For some reason it makes me find her hot. Or maybe I just have a thing for geek girls and I didn't know.
So what happened to the loser jannies and mods that got doxxed in the hacks? Did 4chan "hired" new ones or did the old ones continue working for the site that cucked them?
>>105701145>someone else volunteers to create the storiesIt's always unfortunate when someone fixes an underperformers mistakes. It will allow her to stay afloat. Proper thing to do is force a bad person to ask for help, never pre-emptively help them.
>>105700928 (OP)>software engineerAnyone using that term would have been laughed at in the 1960s. Being a programmer then was much more of a blue-collar thing.
>>105701441Not really, a ton of positions required math (cs didn't exist yet) PhDs
>>105701329Cope, seethe, etc.
>>105700928 (OP)how the fuck do you focus when you work remotely? I took a hybrid job but they're making everyone work remotely for 5 months while they work on the office
I want to die, I can't stop procrastinating
that's it anons, i'm going to apply to other companies, fuck this place, don't even care about interview anxiety, i hate this place more than interviews
>>105701441Anyone using that term is still laughed at
Only non-devs and code monkeys trying to elevate themselves use that title
>>105701661She's already more fixed than anyone ITT will ever be, such an observation so obvious that it should of gone without saying.
FACT
>>105701532Receiving a salary.
>>105701536>how the fuck do you focus when you work remotely? You just buckle up and focus on achieving goals.
Helps if you can pick the more interesting shit.
>>105701329>Those are printed books with different versions of the same codeMakes sense. I was always wondering how tf could they fit so much code on Apollo computer back then. This never made any sense.
>>105701145stop correcting her typos
>i m p l u m e n t>s i n c r o n i s e>p i p e l i g n>m a i n t a i n a n t sif it werent a jeet these would be very cute tbqh
>talk with my boss next month
>gonna bring up why company is hiring someone externally with higher seniority instead of promoting me
How fucked am I anons?
>>105701536>how the fuck do you focus when you work remotely?I simply just have a dedicated space for work. You know, an office. I go in to the room and close the door and when I'm done I leave.
>>105701869>next monthgood one, don't forget, you are under the boot forever. Go be the external senior candidate elsewhere.
>>105701536you don't
>>105701335at this point only flatearfers believe the moon hoax
>>105701869The unfortunate truth is, as the other anon says, you have to skip town and be the external senior peson somewhere else. Perhaps you could swing just a title change so that you could truthfully put it on your resume, then use it to get the external position with a real salary increase.
>>105701869You need to bail asap
>>105701869You need to start immediately interviewing for other jobs. Unfortunately, this is expected behaviour these days. Just hire a new person with less company seniority instead of promoting someone who's been with the company a while. If they cuck you out of a promotion like this, you have to leave, or they'll abuse you forever.
>8am to 5pm, 45 minute commute both ways
Iām tired boss
>>10570220845 minutes is nothing pussy
Looks like I'll need to wfh for another week or so...
If I don't go in soon, they're going to take away my assigned desk
>>105702261>I suffer more than you, I'm the best wagie!do ameritards really
>absolute shitshow after releasing a major new feature that wasn't properly tested and had changing requirements every single week
>everyone incredibly mad and frustrated at work
>boss comes to my table during lunch break and compliments my temper
>I was thinking about walking into the ocean and never coming back
>>105702208i used to commute 2 hours ONE way for my first job
>>105702311>Outright get told by your boss that you're not worth it in their eyes, they don't appreciate your work, and that they're optioning for a rando they don't even know to fill a role you could.Fucking hell anon, get it though your head. If you're this dense then maybe they're right not to choose you.
the 8 hours working day is OUTDATED and SUCKS
FUCK YOU ALL
>>105700928 (OP)I am going to kill myself
>>105702378I don't even hate eight-hour workdays (although technically mine are 7.5h). I just don't want to do it in an office and I don't want the times to be fixed. Maybe sometimes I can effortless do nine hours, sometimes only six hours.
>the 3rd party produced shit that can't be used
>project over deadline and budget
working off the clock to get things done
I hate programming so fucking much
I hate my job, and especially my manager, to a point where I'm now scared to even spend my salary on fun things in case I either get fired or I leave my job.
Saw a bunch of hate and warnings about data science last thread. I'm not trying to be some FAGMAN, phd, giga LLM developer, but just want some extra oomph to my resume in addition to some projects so I've considered a masters in data science.
Any thoughts, or is it doomed with AI as well? Or will I be jeeted the fuck out of any possible jobs? I already work with too many, so I guess I could learn to live with it.
>>105701869The grass is always greener on the other side.
You will always be a bitch to them. Same happened to me and pretty much every coworker of mine.
Couple of years ago they hired some guys that were supposed to be hot shit to work on new features. Well they are both fired and we had to fix their mess.
There's a new version of the website in the works and surprise surprise, they hired an external team of "pros".
I've been slacking off since them and doing the bare minimum and I genuinely don't give a fuck about the company. In fact I actually enjoy every single time there's a major fuckup due to management retardation.
>>105702208>>105702369>these are the anti-urbanization NIMBY normgroids who say everyone should live in suburbs
Are there any EEs here who work on data centers? I have my PE but no direct data center experience.
>>105702311I meant if you want the raise, your best, most likely to succeed option, is to get another offer.
>>105702374It's a bit more complicated than that. It's not like I'm the only employee this applies to, although I do consider myself to be the best performing one even if it sounds arrogant. Which is why the decision is even more puzzling
>>105702560Yes , PE in power I assume?
>>105702630And it's also not like I'm getting fired. Neither are any of the other employees. Neither are we expanding. Neither are we filling in any gaps. The whole situation is just super weird
>>105702630You need to accept that they don't actually appreciate you (or your coworkers for that matter), you're a unit of production, nothing more, nothing less. You're doing the function you're hired for and they don't want to change that. Understand, many businesses and management structures look at the business as something you plug people in to do the _thing_. Its not about expertise, or growth, its about filling a need, and removing you from your current position would create a gap so they're hiring externally as not to do that. Again, unit of production, nothing more. In structures like this you will not advance up if you're not in an administrative role.
>>105702706All of that is nice and logical from a business perspective, BUT:
>>105702674
>>105702630The business' incentive is to never be dependent on anyone, so they will often kneecap their existing employees and try to cycle in new people. It won't be different anywhere else unless you can luck out being a founding engineer at an early startup. Also, these jobs are basically fake and mostly exist as a form of UBI, hence why they are always bringing more and more people in. If you're not getting fired just stay unless you desperately want a raise.
>>105702716The fuck does that do with anything anon? How is this going over your head? If you promote someone in to a role you don't fill a gap, its a lateral move for the business as you filled a position and also opened one up, a net nothing. But hiring externally fills a role without making a new gap. Businesses who approach things this way do not promote.
>>105702630I have seen many others suffer your fatr and have been there once myself. I had LOTS of metrics along with my boss's own testimonies to back this claim up.
I learned the hard way that businesses don't give 2 shit about optimizing results, hkeeping good employees, improving business outcomes, or anything. It's all a vanity production line for the execs.
>>105702733That explanation makes the most sense so far. Does it still make sense to bring it up or will it make things worse for me?
>>105702759imho if you care for advancement, the best thing you can do is always welcome more people. It demonstrates that you understand the game instead of being an ego-driven autistic.
>>105702781trolling or retarded?
>>105702706>and removing you from your current position would create a gap so they're hiring externally as not to do that.Yeah, this right here.
I may be as good or even better a some random senior guy when it comes to creating something from scratch, I can compete with them at this level, but they cannot compete with me when it comes to working in the legacy shitshow, that's why they will never leave me leave as long as this thing exists.
>>105701389Given it was only out for a week its probably mostly the same people. Cant rehire everyone in such a small timeframe.
>>105701536Quit your job and give it to a decent person who can only concentrate when working from home and is severely distracted when working from the office.
>>105700928 (OP)> Assigned to new project> Goal is to adapt for a new client a stack developed in our jeet office during the last 3 years> Open random file> First thing I see is picrel> They use it like this: arr[INDEX_NUMBER_ZERO] because they think the 0 in arr[0] to access the first element of an array is a Magic Number, and Magic Numbers Are BadIt's gonna be a long summer
>>105702814>that's why they will never leave me leave as long as this thing existsI think you didn't get the post lmao. You're literally too good at the thing so you'll never get a promotion either
>>105702631Yeah, I do mechanical and power systems stuff for buildings.
>>105700928 (OP)Look at those ankles. She has nice legs.
>software outage happens
>software teams create slack channel to coordinate fix
>customer service team finds the channel
>immediately starts spamming channel with irrelevant customer complaints
why are they like this?
>>105702936>SheI'm sorry, anon.
>>105702954they didn't have hrt in 69.
>>105702909what do you want to know about data centers? Its probably fairly similar to what you do except just more industrial sized air handling, higher voltages etc , which is a bit different .
Also there are going to be different teams that handle different parts of the data centers. In my experience the substation team is different from the power duct bank teams getting the feeds to the building, etc.
There are companies where htey just shit out data center designs because its fairly standard stuff once you know whats going on and what the requirements are for power
>>105702983How much does it cost to build and operate my own data center
T. Startup founder
>>105702942Maybe try writing software with no bugs if this bothers you.
>>105702995Ignore the engineering and construction cost, how do you plan to afford megawatts of power lol
>>105703016Do I need megawatts? Maybe I should've specified, I need to handle like a few million active users and it's mostly CRUD plus a bit of AI slop.
>>105703016"data center" can be small scale.
Some fags are running pretty big shit in their student apartments, at least here get their electricity bill in the rent which is cheap.
How much brain damage / head trauma do you think someone can take and still be an effective tech worker (SWE)?
>>105703087All of it. All the brain damage.
Pajeets prove it.
>>105703043>>105703027the other anon was talking about industrial sized data centers, I know nothing about deploying a couple racks of servers for personal use

bros, what is an AI engineer?
I've started disregarding anything resembling a command from anyone I don't report to it's been pretty great. I am happy to help a coworker or fulfill a request but if the PO janny asks me to do a story, I not only say no but say I am going to work this other one instead. Coworker tells me there is a bug? Current job is pushing the return to office again. I went to look at the job listings and a good portion of them are asking to see my personal git hub. Don't get me wrong, I like my job, but I have other responsibilities and passions besides programming. I work to live, not the other way around. I can prove my knowledge all day long but I cant get an interview without this prerequisite. Do you guys have personal repos you actually maintain? I had 2 interviews, one from the recruiter and another from the leads of the team. After 2 years, my old job was begging me to come back and promised a permanent remote position. I took it and a year later they are doing the return to office push again. >>105704674bro what fucking shithole are you from
While for some reason Nixon and Gandhi did not hit it off, his predecessor President Lyndon Johnson made much of her first visit in 1966, a few months after she became the Prime Minister.
Much has been written about the bad chemistry between the then US President Richard Nixon and Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Princeton University Professor Gary J. Bass quoting from the newly declassified White House documents said they revealed a "stunning conversation" between Nixon, Kissinger, the then-White House chief of staff H.R. Haldeman in the Oval Office on June 17, 1971.
Even before Indira Gandhi's state visit on November 4 and 5, 1971, Nixon made vulgar remarks about India and her. "Undoubtedly the most unattractive women in the world is the Indian women, said Nixon repeating "Undoubtedly" again in a venomous tone.
Nixon showed his racist mindset and said, "The most sexless, nothing, these people. I mean, people say, what about the Black Africans? Well, you can see something, the vitality there, I mean they have a little animal-like charm, but God, those Indians, ack, pathetic. Uch."
REALITY CHECK: If you're unemployed rn, you completely deserve to be jobless
I am so sick of everyone blaming layoffs or AI for them not having a job. Every third post on here is how it's so impossible to get hired and how all the SWE offers are going to people using invisible AI to cheat. Most of you are so self righteous about not cheating because you arent even smart enough to confidently explain the answer if it was given directly to you.
I have no shame in admitting I used an ai tool to pass my Google and Microsoft interviews. For the 75% of the questions I got, I didn't need AI assistance. But it definitely saved me ass for the last 25%. Is everyone on here so fobby that you were never taught "if you can't beat them, join them?"
Don't you realize that interviewers are essentially operating under the assumption you'll be "cheating" and asking questions to double click and test your understanding more so than to see if you memorized the right question. The questions are purposely hard to weed out people who are just reading an ai generated answer. If you're not using ai, you're just collateral damage of the new way we interview and that's why you're unemployed.
If you're actually a good engineer, these tools will get you offer letters. If you're a bad engineer, there is no tool on the planet that's gonna magically get you offers. It's gonna be obvious as fuck that you're cheating and don't understand the answer you're giving. The way I see it is it's never been easier to get offers if you're actually a good engineer.

>>105702378It is absolutely retarded that work is measured in hours rather than output, and it seems antithetical to the existence of middle managers. You'd think it would be either
Strong management:
>Manager and team define the goals for the day/week/month/whatever >Manager tracks progress and metrics and shit for future reference >"Oh you finished early? Neat, see you next week." >"Oh you're behind schedule even though we don't have any blockers? I hope you didn't have weekend plans." >Manager adjusts future productivity goals based on this period's performance and their personal assessment Weak management:
>Manager makes sure you show up to work, and then jerks off in his office for the rest of the day >Work on poorly defined tasks >Maybe the work gets done, maybe it doesn't >Go home after 8 hours regardless But somehow we ended up with the working culture of the latter with the micromanagement of the former. Why do we go to scrum meetings? What's the point of sprints? Why are there so many managers if our work is supposedly already defined in the aforementioned scrums and sprints? Why is Office Space a documentary? This is all clown world bullshit.
>>105705846I've been coding exclusively in Python and JavaScript for 3 years now. My soul is dying.
>>105705839It has to do with labor protections. A manager can't force a worker to work weekends or deduct pay based on shit performance legally. Even if it could be done legally it would enable gigantic exploitation rather than merit based work.
The 8 hours of jerking off and doing nothing is pretty common. You have 2 meetings of an hour, then you have maybe energy for 1-2 hours of programming and the rest of the day you just read articles or occupy yourself with something.
The sprint and scrum sessions are utter shite. They keep using managers that do not have a tech background and of course it leads to things being poorly planned out since they do not understand what they're even trying to plan to begin with. At very dysfunctional places you have a 1:1 ratio of project managers, product owners, software architects, scrum masters compared to the people carrying out the work.
>>105705102It can not happen because that means workers need to get along with each other, get along with the boss and also don't mind adding value to the company. Typically people are pissed at each other, passive aggressive and around 30-40% tries to get by doing as little as possible.
It's either that or hardcore micro management places where all employees are ass kissers who are fearful of speaking out about anything. These places are actual hell, you have to be a giga normie to find this acceptable.
>>105705839perhaps then the Free Market should invent a company where employees are incentivized to actually work instead of sit in the bathroom and play gachas on their phone for 7 hours and then cram through every task in the last 50 minutes (the final 10 are spent writing status reports no one will read)
>>105704102> what is an AI engineer Probably machine learning engineer or data scientist who got the ''AI'' title to make it more trendy.
>>105705915aren't you afraid of becoming stack-pigeonholed?
>>105705987Kek. There is no incentive because the ''Free Market'' is like a slavery system. You own a company, or own stock and are therefore entitled to its profits. Not the employees who realize those profits, they are just cost for profits. If your only job is to provide stakeholder value, then it's in your best interest to do this with as minimal effort as possible. This is because you're just a fixed cost to a business.
>>105706032Should the business not be trying to get maximum value from a given cost center? Could it be that there is not a "Free Market" anymore, and just a bunch of oligarchs with no interest in doing actual business, instead abusing financial instruments and the businesses they own just being farces to appear legitimate to taxpayers(consoomers)?
>>105701145>>105701220This.
You should rejoice at incompetent management that everyone hates. If the whole department gears up against a manager expect the entire output to drop off very fast. Depending on how fast upper management sees the issue(s) you can get a very comfortable work week where you'll do a few hours of work each day. The incompetent manager will get blamed and gets the sack eventually. This might sometimes even go on for close to a year. Then after that you'll get a new manager, he needs to work in, needs to get the department productive again and you'll get a slow restart for another half year where there also isn't expected all that much output wise.
Try to avoid being a centerpiece in all the unfolding drama though. Sometimes this is impossible but be sure to engage with other departments and with HR so everything is documented properly and only use official channels. Otherwise you might get screwed.

I have an associates degree in "IT programming" and I'm enrolled to finish a bachelor's in CS but I don't think I want to bother completing it because of the absolute state of the job market, I just wanted to be eligible for internships.
Compared to most other programming/CS students I've interacted with, I have better social skills, hygiene/grooming, and I'm not ugly, which I hear is what employers look for in a help-desk role, and my associate's degree courses taught me a lot about networking, troubleshooting, hardware, etc. which isn't in the usual "pure" CS curriculum.

>>105708522It's not gay it's the navy.
>>105708625This encourages developers to hide bugs in their tickets for easy future fixes
>>105708625Look up "perverse incentives".
>>105708643Finding bugs gives a payout and negates the bounty.
Look you motherfuckers, don't you realise time based pay is so much better for the worker than outcome pay?
>>105708658>gives a payout and negates the bountyHow does this make any sense
So you get paid a bounty for deploying a function and then lose it if there are any bugs?
>>105708658This depends.
If you're a great performer, you'll be better off with an outcome pay. There was a story about a guy who sells phone contracts in malls on commission and ends up pulling a six-figure salary out of it.
If you're not a great performer, you'll be better off with a time-based pay, since you get paid the same for productive and non-productive time.
>>105708658>generously disregards ownership>profits are unpaid wagesemployement aka wageslavery should be abolished, every employee to the last janny should be compensated as a percentage of the profits.
>>105708703>every employee to the last janny should be compensated as a percentage of the profitsSuppose business goes down. Should the owners be responsible for the losses, or should the employees be responsible too?
>>105708822they are the same, everyone is responsible to the extent of their share %. What even is the scenario you are thinking of? Business goes bankrupt, assets get liquidated, life goes on
>>105708658depends on the quality of the worker. I did sales engineering on a time based pay and my success completely changed the company. If I had a normal 2% commission rate I would have made a few millions. Instead I made a few tens of thousands and got fired when I asked for a raise.

We're in the early stages of banning all USBs, but this is the cherry on top. They aren't plug and play. This person navigated to the drive, extracted the movie from .rar and then ran it. Is this 2005? Who is getting "movies" as .rar these days?

>>105708981let me tell you what happens. You open a ticket/jira somewhere, perhaps even a whistleblower report. A roastie takes a look, see a seething incel complaining and trying to ruin her day. Ticket/jira gets closed. But you are fully convinced the truth is on your side and you re-open the ticket/jira. Roastie gets frustrated and escalates to their boss someone is trying to be problematic in this big family. You might get a ping on slack out of courtesy but expect an unscheduled mtg invite without any meaningful paper trail. You will be sitting there with multiple people reprimanding you for making a girl sob gently hinting to drop the topic or face disciplinary actions. Obviously the ruling class will be covering the others back. There is a single (you) against all of them, what do?
