Same method, use Ohook
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

One of my external HDDs started disconnecting and reconnecting a lot. Been using it on my main Windows 10 LTSC PC for over a year now and never had this issue. I did a disk check and found zero issues and checked with crystal disk and everything showed up ok. I checked device manager and notices an exclamation mark for my external drive. I tried updating and said windows already had the right driver so I tried disabling and then removing the driver and restarting my pc but still get the same exclamation mark. Nothing about installing a new device or anything when I plug it back in. Even the hardware ID doesn't even look right, I don't think this was the original name of this driver either.

I'm not sure what went wrong. Only thing different I've done in the last 24 hours since this post was install Malwarebytes since I've been going over a year without any protection(and surprise surprise it found nothing on my PC) but I remember it disconnecting and reconnecting once last night after it was installed as well.

All my files and stuff still work and are usable but I'm scare of it disconnecting as something could corrupt.

After playing around with my external HDD on my laptop I noticed the driver file on my laptop is missing on my main PC. I figured copying the driver file from it to my main PC would do the trick but as soon as I move it back to my PC I get more errors saying it was improperly dismounted forcing me to do another check with disk check. I'm really starting to think its Malwarebytes that fucked everything up.

Malwarebytes is kinda junky these days and not like how it use to be. It tries to be a whole "suite" now messing with things it shouldn't be touching, it's only real use in installing it, running a scan, then uninstalling it.
If you remove Malwarebytes stuff will probably start working normally again.

I doubt it'll fix anything after fucking up my PC. I tried troubleshooting and it says it couldn't find a driver, so I tried selecting the top option and it said it couldn't identify the problem.

I moved the driver file from a Windows 7 laptop to my main Win 10 PC and it still doesn't recognize the driver file. Its basically just a single .sys, this is honestly fucked up. I'm scared to try my other external HDDs.

When it comes to external drives, it's not usually the drive giving up - it's either the cable, or the USB<->SATA bridge inside it. When you finally get pissed off at it enough to shuck the drive, you find it works perfectly connected directly to a SATA interface (assuming no manufacturer shenanigans).
This is why I don't buy external drives off the shelf: I just buy Asmedia 2115-based USB<->SATA bridges/drive cases off eGay (to avoid shenanigans), and plug real SATA drives into them.
This isn't recommended to the /g/eneral populace as you lot are poor, and this is a more expensive way of doing it, but it means you can just swap your drive to another bridge/case if they goes tits up.
>define "shenanigans" plz anon
Some external drive manufacturers have started putting the USB<->SATA bridge DIRECTLY on the logic board of the drive: these are annoyingly common on 2.5" external drives, as they can run directly from the 5 volts provided by the USB cord - avoid such drives like an angry Terminator when your surname is Connor (though there's often a way to break out a real SATA interface if you are REALLY good with a soldering iron).
There are also retarded bridge chips that only support up to 2^32 LBAs, and as such (would normally) only support up to 2TB drives. However, to be "clever", many of these can fake 4KB sectors, to allow connecting drives up to 16TB in capacity. This completely scrambles your data if the drive is then plugged into an ordinary SATA interface where it's "true" sector size (almost always "logically" 512 bytes) is exposed - again, avoid interfaces like this, and get an AS2115 instead, which supports 48-bit LBAs, and as such can support drives of up to 2^48 512 byte (logical) sectors - or 128 petabytes.

Yeah I've noticed these externals are really shitty made especially these cables. These WD ones heat up pretty bad too when moving large files or heavy use and my dumb ass keeps buying them. The drive I'm using is like a 4TB WD drive that's about a few years older than my main PC but I also remember having problems with it and other externals on my laptop. You move it or the laptop just an inch and it disconnects and reconnects and had to be perfectly still when using them(which was hard for me because I was moving around a lot).

Now that I think about it, I may have noticed the sudden disconnecting and reconnecting earlier on my PC which sits perfectly still so nothing could have moved it but I don't think my drivers were showing up with errors. It'd happen as soon as I plug it in like a double tap or the device plugged in window's sound.

I tried switching usb cables and I tried different front usb ports, both of which are USB 3.0, but still get the same issue. I won't know if its driver related until SDIO finish downloading all the packs yet. I also uninstalled Malwarebytes but I need to restart my PC in order for it to take affect.

Lol, this is what I've been doing couple of times few months back when I was getting paranoid. Install, scan, uninstall.
Malwarebytes these days could be classified as malware.

In the past it was somewhat better than Defender. I had an infestation 8 years ago and while defender did not see anything MB did. (was stupid with audio software keygens).

I learned of this portable AV meant to run off a USB called Emsisoft Emergency Kit recently which seems very highly rated. Basically uses Bitdefender's scanner/database mixed with its own one, and Bitdefender is considered one of the best free offerings these days.

I have an issue with Windows 10 that I can't quite figure out.
My PC frequently has a weird type of crash where everything just sort of locks up, then I have to do a hard reset to unfuck it.
If a video or something is on screen, it will keep playing, but clicking buttons just stops working and it becomes unusable.
It does not bluescreen or anything. It's just a slow motion freeze.

I thought at first that this was a memory problem and I replaced my RAM, but that didn't help.

Any advice on how to pinpoint what's causing this?

When I say it doesn't work I don't mean I'm incapable of clicking them. I can still move my mouse around in the "frozen" state.
It's very strange.
Like I could click on the start menu (using openshell) and I'd see the UI element click down, and maybe the menu would pop up, but then it would become unresponsive to any kind of input.

weird, such behavior would make Windows blue screen immediately, since you're using openshell (and maybe other tweaks?) it could also mean that it screwed something up with the UI and that's why it becomes unresponsive to UI elements while other stuff keeps working. Not 100% sure that's the reason but I bet on that more than hardware failure or Windows corruption

Would a problem with Openshell cause the same issue with other programs though? The start menu was just an example. It's everything. I could click a tab in firefox and I might get some kind of visual feedback like the selected tab at the top of the screen changing, but nothing would change otherwise.

How can I go about checking for Windows corruption?

When did it exactly start to happen? Can you correlate the moment with something that you may have done in the PC (say, some wonky software or driver that might be the cause) before the first symptoms? Check the Event Viewer logs - if some weird shit happened, it shall be duly logged, hopefully. Check the "Administrative Events" view first.
Do you have a habit of opening too much applications (or, to simplify this example: too many browser windows and tabs?). That's the easiest way to exhaust all of that virtual memory (physical + pagefile). It's also possible that some application or driver might cause a memory leak.
>I thought at first that this was a memory problem and I replaced my RAM, but that didn't help.
Now how did you conduct this was a memory problem at first? Did Memtest86+ fail a pass with the previous modules? How can you be sure the replacement modules aren't also potentially faulty?

What's your hardware specs, btw?

General practice yes, but it's fine here.
You can put that IRL into a browser and it shows what the script does, which is nothing malicious.

With the main reason to run it through the irm command being that it randomizes the hash of the script, making Defender ignore it.
Also in how it runs it from Temp and deletes itself when finished with.

I formatted my 2022 install of 10 LTSC because the system partition space was filled with junk I couldn't find. 11 LTSC is perfectly fine but not out of the box, like 10 LTSC
You need:
-winutil

only then W11 is actually good.

Well not going to reinstall as it is not system breaking but annoying for sure.
I'd suggest do not run privacy.sexy it's bit too autistic unless you want to go through every single entry and manually confirm if it's fine or not.

recommended tool for unfucking W11? I've seen a bunch of names googling solutions to problems but I'm not familiar with what is jeet spyware and what is a safe registry editing GUI

things I want to fix
>use small icons / half height taskbar
>square corners
>disable smooth scrolling in notepad
>remove web search in start menu
>remove "recommended" in start menu (not depopulate it, don't even show the field)
>normal context menu without having to hold shift

also is there a way to intentionally overlap windows in a snap layout? I have a bunch of shit I keep open on my second screen but some of the windows I only have the 'display' portion visible and let other windows cover the controls. If I want to engage with it I will click it and it comes to the front, and when I'm done I click the normally overlaying window again to get back to my regular view

But yeah, I think a lot of W11 LTSC users fell for the meme that LTSC is magically better in every way (and they'll probably update to the next LTSC the week it drops, defeating the point of LTSC)

be wary of this anon, he is lying to you, i've been using non-LTSC enterprise and it turns off updates just fine, it also has more than 2 years of a life span, he is living in the W10 Enterprise past to fit his world view rather than accept change

The real reason you see people use LTSC over Enterprise is because it comes with less bloat and feature updates, and even though the bloat on regular versions is easily removed, it doesn't actually slow down the machine because it isn't running, this nuance is lost on /v/, they see less bloat as equivalent to better performance, but in reality less bloat just means more storage space

I'm using coomsoomer Pro, and it turns off updates just fine. Telemetry has a tragic accident when it hits Windows Firewall (no, there's no magic delusional "bypass firewall" marker for telemetry packets) - and this applies to ALL telemetry, not just Windows' which is (only partially) stopped by the EnableTelemetry registry value.
The "LTSC is a panacea that will solve all my problems" view is negatively correlated with IQ, and positively with laziness. Hence it's popularity on /g/.

You change an install's S-Mode status via a registry DWORD. Go into the recovery options via restarting while holding Shift and then go into the advanced options and open a command prompt to run regedit. Basically click on LOCAL_SYSTEM, then load the C:\ drive's SYSTEM hive from Windows\system32\config (name it something like offlineSYSTEM), then enter it and go to ControlSet001\Control\CI\Policy then change the DWORD SkuPolicyRequired from 1 to 0. Then click on offlineSYSTEM and unload the hive from the file tab menu. Then close regedit and the prompt then shut down the PC. When you boot it again, S-Mode should now be disabled.

Keeping Malwarebytes installed is fine as long as you set it to not run at startup. It will just sit there until you need it again. Letting your free trial expire and active protection get disabled also prevents it from messing stuff up on its own.

One of my computers I got for free from a dumpster would do something like this where I would be using it happy and fine and all of a sudden I would hear the drive spin down and stop and then the system would slowly lock up as it tried to access data that was no longer there due to the drive stopping. Whatever was currently going would keep working for a while due to it being loaded into RAM but if I tried to open new windows or programs it would just do nothing until it got to the point that nothing would respond to input and I'd have to hard reset it. The only workable fix was to quickly restart it when I heard the drive power down before it became unusable and it would be fine again upon restart. This issue was most common if I left the machine powered on and idling for a half hour or more. It was fine if it was transferring data and the drive was spinning but as soon as the transfer was done and it would idle there was a good chance the drive would just stop eventually.

I never found the cause of this as the hard drive was in good health and had no errors, so I just assumed it was a motherboard issue and just ignored it because it was a rare issue that would only occur occasionally. Eventually I cycled that tower out with a different one which had no issues.

If this sounds familiar to you then check your motherboard or something. Whatever is responsible for powering and running your drive may be dropping out but idk for sure. My PC that did this was a Dell Vostro if that helps.

It's a bit of a roundabout solution but I found out you can get past the mandatory Win11 Microsoft account creation on a new computer or install by downgrading to Win10, making a local account there, then just upgrading to Win11 after that. All you need is a Win10 boot iso.

Came across this because I originally downgraded my work laptop from 11 to 10 because I didn't want to use 11, but I just updated it back to 11 for supported software reasons.

Yeah, the registry that oobe\bypassnro changes is
>HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OOBE
>Then adding the DWORD BypassNRO and setting the value to 1
You can just open regedit within the OOBE or add it with a reg command then just use the shutdown command to restart the system. So even with the news/rumors that the script is being removed, you can still do it very easily.

I'm not going back to W10 because games especially feel snappier with less input lag and memory management is better.
But it's kind of embarrassing for Microsoft after all these years. Creating a solid experience should not be a problem at this point.

The obscure registry hack of the day is...
>rolls dice
"Promote 'alternative' storage drivers' StartType at boot depending on boot scenario"
REGEDIT4

; This is actually the magic behind Windows To Go. By default, Windows (or
; more precisely, the Windows Boot Manager) starts up your 'storage miniport'
; drivers (for SATA, NVMe, whatever) marked boot-start, then the NT kernel
; starts up and looks around for the boot volume... and bugchecks with a STOP
; 0x7B error if it can't find it. Practically everybody who has used Windows 7
; or earlier has seen this happen at some point.
;
; While many hacks have existed over the years to boot Windows from 'alternative'
; types of devices, none of them have been particularly reliable and, of course,
; were completely unsupported.
;
; Microsoft solved (many of) these problems in Windows 8, by allowing BOOTMGR
; (yes, it does it THAT early in startup, that the NT kernel hasn't taken control yet)
; to 'promote' - that is, start of its own volition - additional storage miniport drivers
; if it can't find the boot volume after starting all the drivers marked as boot-start in
; the registry. This is actually why STOP 0x7B blue screens are far less common on
; Windows 8 and later: BOOTMGR has also been rewritten to always promote storage
; miniport drivers that can back fixed drives, such as IDE, SATA, NVMe, SCSI, SAS, etc.
;
; However (and here's the WtG magic), BOOTMGR can be configured to promote
; additional drivers, such as those that support networking, USB, SD card readers,
; and VHD[X] Native Boot. This enables all of those through the BootDriverFlags
; registry value, (hopefully) allowing a Windows install configured this way to start
; up from any of the aforementioned media types.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]
"BootDriverFlags"=dword:0000001f

I know the OP recommends against using Windows 11, but I've been considering trying it out just for fun and was wondering if it's possible to achieve an old-style taskbar in it like in picrelated. Not necessarily in the sense of making the theme look like Windows 9x, but in the sense of having small taskbar buttons with labels and the same width for each taskbar button. I don't feel like changing the workflow I've established for myself over the past 20 years, so it'd be cool if I could at least get the taskbar on the "latest and greatest" to behave the way I'm used to.

These "hide telemetry updates" lists don't really make sense anymore, ever since MSFT introduced the cumulative update model for earlier Windows systems in 2017-ish.
So if you are installing monthly rollups (which is what Windows Update offers), packages from these updates will already be bundled.
If you were aware, you could stick to installing security-only updates (non-cumulative) that you would download manually from the Update Catalog, but there was some instance when they included the telemetry components within them (accidentally or not, you be the judge), so it doesn't really make sense.
It makes sense if, for some goddamn reason, the update client somehow still offers updates mentioned in these lists, especially if you're the world's unluckiest bastard that had the GWX update offered. These updates either have been long superseded by these rollups, not plainly offered anymore or dormant ever since the year-round free upgrade offer expired, so you may just hide them.

Now, since I'm not some faggot that will tell you to suck it up and deal with it, you can still neutralize these components.

I assume we're talking customized Windows images that you'd encounter in the warez sites and torrent trackers.
That depends on the author's own volition: whether he'll slipstream all the updates - including ones that are known to add telemetry components, or whether he'll exclude them - providing a list of these updates for the end-user to hide after checking for available updates.
But like it was mentioned earlier - monthly rollups already include packages from earlier updates that introduce telemetry components from W10, unless the author took extra steps to eviscerate them.

You can find an official Windows 10 IoT LTSC iso on massgrave.dev. You also activate Windows with massgrave.dev. Once installed, update Windows, make sure your drivers are present in Device Manager, then you can use WPD and Chris Titus' winutil to make it more private.
After that, you are free to do whatever you want with your computer.

It's just a hashing algorithm.
A hash is just a unique value created by a mathematical algorithm. It's used to verify that information hasn't been changed which is useful for security/privacy and troubleshooting/debugging.
If the data has been changed in any way, no matter how small, it will have a different hash.
So you can verify that you've downloaded the full file with no malicious or unintended modifications by taking the hash of what you've downloaded, and comparing it with the hash on the website.

You don't *need* to check the hash of anything you download, but it's not a bad habit to get into if you care about security. Generally files with large sizes are hosted on unofficial mirrors, and bad actors could try to upload their own compromised files into those mirrors, or make their own mirror to host those compromised files.
I would definitely do it for any important software like your operating system. Windows PowerShell should come with commands for checking the hash of a file, look up how to use them.

10 IoT LTSC has graphical glitches on my hardware but it never used to. It's not the graphics card driver as this hasn't changed for years. Even upgrading it to the latest doesn't help.

The problem is when you enter Task View (win+tab), a 1-4 pixel line remains along the top of the Taskbar from whatever was drawn there previously e.g. the pixels from the bottom of a maximised window.

It only happens on display scaling at 150-175%, but these are the only two usable scales on this hardware.

I think I need to go back to 11.

There's some debloating tools linked in the OP. The problem is that there's so many of them that do the same thing with functions that can literally break your OS if you're not careful. The reason being is a lot of the bloated and botnet shit is hard glued to normal services. ie, you delete some facebook shit and it also stops the use of your calculator. Dumb shit like this basically and there's a lot of stuff like this. Default settings are usually fine though.

I never said or even insinuated that. I'll tell to you why: baby ducks fall into two groups

>my waifu os is perfect and would never spy on me
>(cuz os-tan pretty and familiar default wallpaper soothes my autism)
This is how morons ducked on the "normie" releases of Windows (XP, 7) think. Loontroons are the same coincidentally. They never configure their OS because "muh waifu OS perfect OOTB" and the family computer they used when they were 5yo was running completely stock Windows anyway. There's even a sub-subset of these mouthbreathers (so braindead they're not even welcome on /g/ anymore) who think Windows 7 RTM is "perfect" and service packs and security updates "defile" it somehow. Thankfully most were genocided by WannaCry and co.
Bottom line: this type of 'tard is a utter lost cause and can't handle reality in any meaningful way. Don't ever even try to help them because every problem they cause for themselves will be your fault because they have huge victim complexes (another thing they share with loontroons).

>me smart and i pretend im really familiar with my waifu os because youtube told me it was cool ^W^W^W^W^W^W i used it for years
>(but im asking questions that google would take seconds to answer wrecking my credibility)
This kind of duck is different and flock around the more "obscure" versions of Windows (2000, 8.x). These massively overestimate their computer knowledge (as the failanon above demonstrated, admitting he was replaced by a pajeet). They're a bit smarter than the other kind in that they aren't completely cunt-struck by their OS: at least they get their OS needs some config before its usable or can be taken online.
The failanon falls into this group: he's guaranteed to run memescrips like a good little NPC to block telemetry.

The obscure registry hack of the day is...
>rolls dice
"Always start the FAT and NTFS filesystem drivers at boot"
REGEDIT4

; Extremely stripped down/weird/unsupported system configurations can result
; in the NTFS filesystem driver not starting automatically, mostly on systems
; where the Windows "boot volume" isn't NTFS: Windows PE won't load NTFS.SYS
; if it's "flat booted" from another, supported filesystem (such as UDF), and
; full-fat Windows booted from (say) a BtrFS using a third-party bootloader/
; FS driver combo (such as Quibble/WinBtrfs) won't either. As an aside, this
; also happens with the "FastFAT" (to give it its proper name) driver, and
; has similar results, but as FAT isn't nearly as widely used as it once was,
; it's not so critical; I have included it here anyway for completeness.
;
; This happens because, interestingly, Windows doesn't actually autostart FS
; drivers by default: it has 'FS recogniser' drivers (presumably to save on
; memory) which, if they detect a volume of a given file system, will load
; the full FS driver. As such, if you DO have FAT or NTFS volumes attached to
; your system at boot time, Windows (or more precisely, these FAT/NTFS
; recogniser drivers) will load the full-fat FS drivers... but if you don't,
; it will cause issues later, for example, trying to format a volume with
; NTFS, as (obviously) formatting requires the full NTFS driver to be loaded.
;
; To avoid these problems - at the cost of a megabyte or two extra of memory
; usage even if you don't have FAT or NTFS volumes connected - this will
; configures both the FastFAT and NTFS drivers to automatically start at boot
; time.

At my job I work out of 4 shared inboxes because my workplace just loves to make a new one for every new line of communication. So now I am drowning in these unused folders for every inbox, I probably wouldn't even have to scroll if these were all gone. I'm trying to use MFCMAPI but it will not recognize that I have Outlook installed. Does it only work on classic Outlook?

I see. Thank you for your response. Indeed, I haven't had any problems with the system ever since I installed it (using properly formatted Rufus USB pendrive). I installed some stuff manually, like HEVC codecs or Dolby Atmos (using the unsigned drivers option).
It's remarkably stable and fast, even though this laptop is pretty old, specs being:
- Intel Core2 Duo CPU T9550 @ 2.66GHz 2.67 GHz x64
- 4 GB RAM
- Intel Integrated Graphics
Yet, it can even emulate some PS2 games well. No problems with high resolution video playback either and the sound is now so much better with Atmos. Contrary to expectactions, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC has still a big tinkering potential.

It's a bit of an oversight on Microsoft's part that .1q is considered the driver's responsibility, yes. I recall reading somewhere that there's a horrible hack where you abuse SNAP framing to sneak a VLAN tag onto your transmitted Ethernet packets - but I suspect the network stack will still receive all frames.

Certainly, I was expecting the Pro and later SKU's to have a nice UI to create virtual NIC's assigned to VLAN's.

However I now know that it is possible to have it using Hyper-V PowerShell module. It's still a bit of a hack though, using the console you create virtual switches (read: NIC's) that map to your physical NIC

Be warned that isn't quite what you think it is: it's meant for dividing up groups of VMs on a host into their own VLANs - it's all virtual. I've never actually checked, but I suspect that the .1q tags don't actually hit the physical wire (I'd like to be proven wrong though).

That's for QoS, which Windows has happily supported on Ethernet frames since about Windows 2000. Indeed, the QoS handling code is what I think Microsoft could expand to support VLANs on any and all NICs. But, to my knowledge, TPIDs on .1q frames have always been ignored.

Well, if I'm wrong (which I still hope I am) and VLAN IDs do actually appear on the wire with a "Hyper-V external virtual switch shared with management OS", it should work down to Pro SKUs, as they come with Hyper-V.
Having said that, I've never used "Client Hyper-V", and Microsoft do like to randomly rip out cool features that it would cost them precisely nothing to leave in.

Seems it can be done with Hyper-V role. It enables the following:
Add-VMNetworkAdapter
Set-VMNetworkAdapterVlan
New-VMSwitch

That allows to create the VLAN interface and bridge it to a NIC. However:

Should I go for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC or go for win 11 IoT LTSC (Didn't understand what's bad about it)?
I didn't find anything about bypassing Win11 account making in the OP

These days it's very easy to get Enterprise so you can just use that.
Use IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 if you want 10 or use IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024 if you want 11. The OP maker just doesn't like 11, simple as.
Enterprise by default allows you to make a local account if internet isn't connected during OOBE.

IoT LTSC 2024 has no requirements besides needing to be installed on something more recent then a 64-bit Core 2 Duo. It can even be installed in a BIOS system.
Use ShutUp10 to actually set the registry entries and disable the services and Chris's tool to do other things, though you'll need to install winget with asheroto's winget-install script for the tool's program installer to work (LTSC doesn't come with winget.)

It was part of IE4 (and 5 and 6 if you twiddled some knobs) which was a free download. But yeah, the very last OSR of 95 included it, and 98 had it from the get-go.
But I was more talking about things that were just pure JS, infesting everything, like most of the control panels in XP onward being DHTML, that Windows Sidebar with its JS-powered widgets, etc.
Say what you like about UWP or React Native, they're WAY more performant than hosting IE in every second window, especially on Win7 on a C2D with 2GB RAM, or XP on a P3 with 128MB, or Win95 OSR3 on a P1 with 32MB.

I haven't reinstalled Windows 10 in ages but my system is basically bloat-free (I'm not a complete tech retard).
Lately I've been thinking that it's time to maybe jump to Windows 11, especially since I got a new HDR monitor recently and HDR support seems to be better on W11 (and things like Nvidia's RTX HDR only works on W11). Plus other things like MPO improvements and HAGS improvements.
Problem is I'm way too lazy to reinstall all the software, even though I keep most of it in a portable format on a non-system drive.
So my question is, how safe is it to do a Windows Update from 10 to 11 rather than a clean install? And a followup question for people who did it, do I actually keep ALL of my data/settings as is - basically only UI changes from 10 to 11, or will I still have to reinstall some apps. For example things like VirtualBox since it uses drivers/services.
I never done a system version upgrade via Windows Update so I have zero idea what gets kept, what gets reset and what gets deleted.

relatively safe nowadays even if you have light tweaks, but it's always recommended to make a backup just in case, in my case I didn't have any issue, but it has a not-so-old install too

>or will I still have to reinstall some apps

if you choose an in-place upgrade then all your apps are going to stay, and it's likely that all of them will still work fine, of course there's always a chance of something acting weird.

>>105759857

for unattend xml clean install from win 10 to win 11, a bit confused about two settings:
account - I can just have one local admin account, and delete other user/admin accounts, this is not the "built-in" admin account right?
key - my windows 10 is activated via hwid, what key do i set for unattend? generic and win 11 will be activated automatically later when it phones home to microsoft?

I have never had any problems but today I wanted to try undervolting and did a minor change and tried to boot into windows and it gave me bsod with error message of memory management and I went back restored the settings in bios to what it used to be. Booted back in but now I get random bsods with different messages every time and i can't even get into repair. What should I do?

use a windows installer drive to try to repair the installation, it would also be wise to first run the diagnostics of your bios just in case some component got fucked

Resetting your bios should be more than enough. Unless the bsod somehow erased data on your ssd and corrupted something.
You'd probably want to test undervolting with intel xtreme tuner or whatere it's called. It's easier.

I, for one, believe Linux, especially distros such as Ubuntu or Mint, are great if you want to resuscitate an older machine or recover data from one that suffered a catastrophic failure of some kind. I saved an old, but still kicking, Toshiba laptop from 2006. The hard drive suffered a partial failure, around 1/4 of the hard drive were bad sectors, physically fucked. Windows would fail to install no matter what partition magic I worked, as the bad sectors were sort of spread out. However, Ubuntu installed with almost no issues (I managed to create a small partition free of defects) and this old thing worked great (for an old laptop) for years to come. I only had to fix a CPU overheating problem by simply cleaning all radiators).
For other things, Windows (prepared accordingly) is still the King. I miss the old Microsoft innovation ability, the jumps from 3.1 to 95 to 98 SE to Windows 2000 to Windows XP to Windows 7... Hell, even 8.1 was nice. Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC is still a great system (compared to the consumer versions that are fucked). But I'm worried we need to basically enter Linux territory in terms of tinkering to make the systems usable.

tldr: I'm stupid and MSI is even more stupider (and gay)

so get this
I've now installed W11 IoT LTSC 2024
and these fucking wifi drivers STILL will not install
I'm not even going to use wifi during the entire life of this stupid fucking computer
BUT THE MOTHERBOARD WAS ADVERTISED WITH WIFI CAPABILITY
THE SHIT SHOULD WORK

I have tried almost everything I can find in forums searches
>updated bios to latest version
>CMOS reset my motherboard and then made sure it was still up to date
>made sure wifi/BT controller is set to auto in bios
>run the driver installer as admin
>made sure all other drivers were up to date
what's maddening is that the bluetooth shit WORKS
the bluetooth and wifi are handled by the SAME FUCKING DEVICE (Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Dual Bluetooth Adapter)
and yet for some reason only the bluetooth shit works
oh yeah and I even tried to use MSI Center
>go to get drivers
>the only available download isn't even a driver, it's just a download of Norton 360 security software
worse than useless
fuck you MSI

the only option I have left (at least based on forum posts I read) is to try installing the most up to date version of consumer W11 possible because maybe these special snowflake drivers only work on the absolute latest spyware

after that the only remaining avenue would be putting in an RMA request and getting it replaced
BUT I DONT WANT TO TAKE THE STUPID THING APART
IT WAS A BIG ENOUGH PAIN IN THE ASS SQUEEZING ALL THAT SHIT IN IN THE FIRST PLACE

but again
I only use ethernet anyway
no matter where I end up living I will always be able to spare an ethernet connection for my desktop
this is essentially a non-issue
and hell if I do need wifi I could always buy a non-retarded wifi card
BUT I ALREADY PAID FOR A MOTHERBOARD WITH BUILT IN WIFI
FUCK YOU MSI KYS KYS KYS KYS KYS KYS KYS KYS

for reference here is an excerpt from the specifications section of motherboard manual
mobo model is MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
I have tried installing the most recent drivers that come straight from MSI's support page for the motherboard

the W11 IoT LTSC should work right? Microsoft's own website says that it's 24H2
wifi 7 should work with W11 IoT LTSC right????

You could just install the driver manually.
What hardware id its show in the device manager?
Also those installer probably only support consumer version of windows, aka home and pro, ltsc its an enterprise os.

Well it's the best Chromium experience you can currently get so there's that. Just remember to do an options sweep and turn off the web3 shit. Also set the content blocker to aggressive.

This, or you could try using SDIO to get the wireless driver through that.

Just a couple things in the main options and some nested stuff, it's easy to turn off.
A site like privacyguides have a good set of things to set/disable from a default install.

Not quite, more deception. He actually side jumps over the arm of the chair, not the entire thing.
And, fuck Microsoft.
