now you are gonna defend it with an autism take about how you enjoy wasting your time and toooooning an old ass system

I am very confused as to how slow LTT Labs is going. What's the point of all that expensive equipment with custom in-house scripting and using AI voices to simplify the video version of reviews if they basically do two PSUs a month? And its always two distinct ones when it should be possible or even efficient to test multiple wattage variants of the same model by ordering them together, then it becomes easier to compare them too.

Do people really hate entry level parts that much?

I have a decently high end rig and I still get excited over lower end parts just because it means a lower barrier to entry for others.

they're just built very cheaply. it shows when you compare circuit boards
here's the Zotac 3080:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zotac-geforce-rtx-3080-trinity/3.html
here's the EVGA for comparison:
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/evga-geforce-rtx-3080-ftw3-ultra/3.html

the Zotac only has 13 power phases vs EVGA's 19 and that doesn't actually break down the quality of the components

it matters in the long term and in overclocking
the Zotac won't clock for shit and will fail WAY before that EVGA, this is reflected in the price in the second hand market as you can see above where it's priced the same as mid tier cards because of how much of a gamble it is

You can't necessarily prove it does.
Modern GPU obsession with VRMs are not based on provable merit. You like to feel that more phases means a longer lasting card but that's exactly how the market wants you to feel.

>Do processors sometimes not come out in the USA?
The US misses out on chips like 5500X3D and 7500F, there are also some China-exclusive Intel CPUs specced for net cafes.
It's an international distribution strategy, they don't deliver some of these high-value chips in the US because they can cannibalize sales of the costlier CPUs.
It makes sense from a business POV to make US gamers pay the 9800X3D or better premium.
AMD also waitedโ„ข until most potential 7800X3D customers bought it before they offered a Microcenter-only 7600X3D.

>15 vs 19 power phases
It's not that simple. The quality of the components matters more.
FTW3 is one of the more problematic RTX 30 cards because it is specced to draw up to 450W while using reference-tier components.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuimvlNraLM

EVGA's had so many RMAs with these RTX 3080/Ti & 3090 cards, that they've run out of RMA stock.
Look at the Redditors defending EVGA, an AIO water-cooled 3090 shouldn't last beyond 5-years? Kek.
The FTW3's plastic fan shroud also hides the actual thinness of the heatsink.

Ironically when it comes to the 30 series, it was the higher end models that grenaded themselves early. There is atleast evidence of that happening

I understand the scope of this project was limited to a remaster, but Bethesda & Virtuous made some half-assed gameplay changes.

AI answer.
>That statement is incorrect. Vsync (Vertical synchronization) introduces latency regardless of whether your FPS is above or below your monitor's refresh rate. While it does prevent screen tearing by synchronizing the frame delivery with the monitor's refresh rate, it does so by adding a delay, even if the game is rendering frames faster than the monitor can display them

when reflex/antilag2 is not a option, thats where the fps cap comes in. ideally you would cap it in-game but not all games have good frame limiters. a good frame limiter is cyberpunk/bg3 where you can set it to any value in-game and its cpu based. a bad framelimiter is segas games where they only offer presets (60/90/120) and its gpu based limiter. cpu based limiters are better (Rtss is one for example).

You shouldn't install two different DDR4 sticks like that, it will hurt gaming performance (both modules will run at 2133MT/s without manual tuning).
Get one set (2x8GB or 2x 16GB) of DDR4 with at least 3200MT/s CL16, 3600MT/s CL18 if the price difference isn't too much.

You can drop down to 12600K or 12400/F if this system is mostly for gaming.
9060XT Reaper might run a bit hot and loud because it's got a compact cooler, maybe check if there are similarly priced models with a bigger cooler.

If you buy the 3080, it's strongly recommended to undervolt the GPU (with a light OC) and apply a lower power limit to the card.
Set a maximum frame limit (around 3~5 FPS below your monitor's maximum refresh rate) to manage the GPU utilization.
You can set frame limits on apps like RTSS, NVIDIA Control Panel, or in-game settings.

You want to make these adjustments to dampen the intensity of the transient spikes to protect the power delivery components.

I don't usually like GN content but he has a point about how badly gamers are getting screwed with the GPU configurations & the meager raw performance gains.
GeForce -50, -60, and -70 tier cards used to provide strong value for money, and they helped grow the PC gaming audience.
Now they're speccing these cards just enough to encourage people to replace them every 2~4 years.

AMD prioritizing Epyc & Ryzen over GPUs during their distressed period also gave NVIDIA a great opportunity to take over the market.
Radeon is getting the investments and the changes it needs thanks to the AI boom.

for both cases, that wasn't true since both 3600cl16 dual stick kit were produced in the same week and had incremental serial numbers (i.e. xx4, xx5, xx6, xx7).
and 4000cl14 sticks are limited run bins and all 4 sticks were produced in the same week in august 2021.
probably just silicon lottery where the mismatched sticks I had were electrically different enough to matter when using xmp or overclocking

Offer an alternative AIO for the OP.
I like be Quiet AIOs because they designed a coolant refill port that allows you to use the AIO until the pump degrades.
But I don't have the experience to recommend it (air-cool schizo).
Plus, these refillable AIOs have a 3 year warranty compared to the 5/6 offered by competitors (probably because be Quiet is accounting for user error during pump refills).

>>105711565
Did ASRock officially state their investigation is over and their BIOS fixed the issue 100%?
I like some of their boards but it's hard to recommend something that is disproportionately affecting Ryzen CPUs relative to other boards.
I know their boards were commonly recommended, but it's still an extreme difference.

Arctic P- fans tend to hum at certain RPMs, it also varies by fan due to manufacturing tolerances.
I'm not anti-Arctic, I often recommend LF3/Pro.
But Arctic is phasing out those P- fans with the new Pro models.

I would get the Power Color Hellhound over the XFX 9070 XT.
Hellhound cards have a better reputation for running cooler & quieter, it's cheaper in GER too.
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/rGPv6h/powercolor-hellhound-oc-radeon-rx-9070-xt-16-gb-video-card-rx9070xt-16g-loc

XFX cards have decent build quality, but they don't seem to put enough effort into picking & testing noise-optimized fans that complement their heatsink.
Pic shows how loud XFX's premium model runs, they may have released a firmware update but that's annoying.
Rest looks fine.

The best would be separately list 4.0 and 5.0 disks, perhaps also some best HDDs for storage

>SSD part, there is nothing about pcie 5.0 drives I think
Very few /pcbg/ visitors need a gen 5 NVMe drive, it benefits specialized/professional tasks like 4/8K video editing and some AI applications.
Even Gen 4 drives are overkill for most general computing needs, and Gen 5s are not exactly affordable.

>GPU sections should mention used
Too much info about used cards, very few people would be looking for such specific info and its relevance is too region-specific.
It's also not recommended to buy a used 3090 because of its power delivery flaws.
Most 3090 cards have a chance of randomly dying if people run it at stock settings, even overbuilt cards like the Strix 3090 are not immune from this.

>It's also possible to split the OP into two posts, some generals do this
I don't think it's worth the effort just to suggest used cards and gen 5 drives.

Ironically that's what one of the first Nvidia adapters did.
All the wires where combined into a single bus bar on the plug end. Helped distute the load across the pins before power went across the connector.
It's why there was never really an issue with insanely unbalanced cable loading until PSU cables came out with individually pinned cables.

The power supply may not be compatible, it's SFX and you are building a full tower. SFX PSUs come with shorter cables, so they won't reach far enough in an ATX case. You won't be able to plug it in. Either go for a mATX motherboard + case, or an ATX case with a front/top mounted PSU, or get a different PSU.

Yeah, that touches on something I've noticed.
Here in the US there is an "affordability" problem with cars nowadays. Yet all the cars people look at are $50k or more even.

It's like people pretend lower end stuff doesn't exist and your are the bad one for suggesting a lower end option.

GPU performance doesn't scale very well past 1.1V for Ada and probably also Blackwell GPUs.
Earlier 4090 & 4080 cards were specced to draw 1.1V max, I'm assuming NVIDIA reduced it to 1.075V to make the card run a bit safer.
The Ada chip also has strange power characteristics past 1.125V, it asks for significantly more power after that.
I think Der Bauer's 5090 OC showed similar behavior when he tested a volt mod.

Maybe NVIDIA could've let board partners design OC cards with a higher power limit.
These cards would be obscenely overpriced though.

Yes lower is better but it should be fine so long as the pump isn't the highest point in the loop. That is to say don't mount it with the pump on the "top" side. You will, of course, need to keep the loop well-filled to avoid gurgling.

As long as it stays filled its ok
Some AIOs actually have their pump inside the radiator as a way to get past the (now expired) Asetek patents
That pump rad you are showing seems fine the pump is lower then the radiator.

The big issue really is to not have the pump as the highest point in the loop.

It's actually better to keep it a little higher as you tend to get air locked when filling with it down at the bottom

Phantom Spirit isn't enough to cool a 9950X without throttling performance in heavily multi-threaded workloads.
AMD officially recommends this CPU to be water-cooled (AIO minimum, I suggest at least 280mm rad).
If you need a different case to install an AIO at the top, check some of the ATX cases recommended in OP.

I would drop the memory speed & timing down to 6000MT/s CL30 because not all CPU's memory controllers can run at 3200MHz, which is needed to run at the optimal 1:1 memory speed to memory controller speed ratio.

I would avoid Gigabyte video cards because their thermal gel solution has quality control issues, which leads to them slipping out of the memory chips or VRMs.
The editor of Igor's Lab shared his analysis with Gigabyte, but they are still bitter about him covering Gigabyte's exploding PSUs.

It appears to be a CPU-demanding game, and your 9900X usually performs like a slightly better 9600X when gaming.
The 12 CPU cores in the 9900X are split into two chiplets, games usually park one of these because utilizing both increases latency.
Real-time 3D gaming is a latency-sensitive task for the CPU.

Check whether the system memory (RAM)'s EXPO feature is toggled on in the motherboard BIOS.

I have the better NH-D15 (G1) and you don't want the CPU to be drawing near 200W with these coolers.
It is running near the thermal throttling point or will throttle, especially for the heat-dense CCDs without an offset bracket.
I've set a 180W power limit for that reason. Noise is a secondary issue and the fans are loud past the 50% mark.

ASRock video cards are fine, completely different from the issues they're dealing with the AM5 motherboards.

ASRock claimed their decision to set the higher end of PBO power delivery killed the CPUs.
>More technically, we adjusted two main settings in PBO. One is TDC (Thermal Design Current) and the other is EDC (Electrical Design Current).
>We found that our original values for these two settings might have been too high.

There are few things you could upgrade
>6000 CL26 RAM
>Titanium PSU
>PCIe 5.0 drive
>Aorus Xtreme or maybe MSI MEG Godlike MB
>420 AIO, Antec Flux Pro can fit those without issue
but they are all overkill or minimal gains for large money, expect maybe the bigger AIO
For future upgrades I guess you can grab the 11950X3D and 6090 when they appear?

If an air-cooled 9950X can't boost as high as one that's cooled with an AIO, the air-cooled CPU is thermal throttling.

AMD hasn't meaningfully changed the boost system since zen 2
intel is kinda similar now except they don't have all the same safety limits in place (which is what lead to 13/14th gen degradation)

get an AIO by either TRYX for unbeatable style points, or arctic freezer/Phanteks for extreme performance and reliability.

Your SSD's and their capacity choices make no sense, why get a 1 or 2 TB SSD and a 2+4TB M.2 drives? i have the 990 pro 4tb btw, its good, but outside of production work, or playing a UE5 game, you wont get much out of the speeds.

Yes, LLMs. Gayming just occasional. However the lane reduction is not on the first slot. That's the whole point of it. They reduce all slots afterwards on the pcie to give first slot full bandwith. That slows down nvmes, sometimes as low as sata speed. But I don't want to have a fast nvme and have it choked down to sata speed.

Then you have $800 boards like Aorus Extreme AI Tops.

Some anecdotal evidence: it works perfectly stable here, voltages and temperatures all within normal parameters. Never had a screen freeze or BSOD or any other problem. I never ran my precious 16-core with any older BIOS than 3.25, I waited with it until ASRock released it, used the BIOS Flashback and only then installed and booted it.

It's not a meme.
It truly, actually, isn't.
1,000 FPS gives a fast response time and almost perfect parity with human visual system. At such a high framerate, frame blending methods for anti-aliasing would be viable. 1000 FPS, 8 frame blending, equivalent to 1/125 frames but with 8x the data. Motion blur would actually be able to not look like SHIT and things like checkerboard rendering would also be viable because the pixel transition times would actually blend the frames on the display somewhat and reduce flickering nonsense.

As soon as we start gaming at 1000Hz people will not be ALLOWED to go back because everything will be reliant on it.

Half of my fans are so caked in dust they don't even spin anymore including the main fan on my cpu it just barely moves. Don't think I even ever had the setup to check temps or control them. But it's never been a problem and I'm sure if all the fans died nothing would change. I've never experienced annoying noise or any of the other problems people complain about. It's cope but sometimes I like how simple my computer world is. Part of me fears eventually rebuilding and having to worry about so much more stuff.

I don't know if I just have broken eyes but I can't handle using my computer in the dark. In a short amount of time my vision starts to get weird and I almost feel dizzy. It could be my settings are fucked up, its a decade old monitor and half the settings buttons don't work so I can't even change them anymore.
I'm worried about investing in a fancy OLED monitor and it killing my eyesight if I am forced to play in the dark again.
But I also have no problem watching movies in the theatre so maybe it really is just something wrong with my monitor.

I own a QD-OLED monitor and you don't have to use it in a pitch-black room.
It looks great even with warm lights in the room at night.
Minimize direct ambient light towards the monitor and you should be okay.
Set up a bias lighting behind the monitor to reduce eye strain if you want to use it in a darker room.

Choose a store with a great return policy to test the monitor.

Most of these base MSRP-tier 5070 Ti card dimensions are limited to NVIDIA's SFF-Ready specs.
There's no real winner between Gigabyte Windforce SFF, PNY, and MSI Shadow.

PNY has a decent cooler on paper, but some people reported rattling/annoying fans.
Best Buy CA is also not very cooperative about these QC returns.
https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/105253317/#105258852

Gigabyte's thermal gel wasn't reliably applied, they can slip out if you vertically mount the card (more info in >>105715058)

MSI Shadow feels a bit bad to buy for what you're getting (fans running at 2500 RPM, baseline maximum power limit).
https://youtu.be/MplM3lCJ7Ps?t=498
You can try setting custom fan curves and applying an undervolt + lower power limit to help the Shadow run quieter.
Some MSI Ventus/Shadow owners are happy after this adjustment (including few from pcbg).

GL with those Prime restocks.

I'm reusing the most pricey parts from my old pc - cpu, mobo, ram and gpu. Hdds were my top expense, about 75% of what I spent, followed by psu (which I didn't risk and got a good model) and case, then ssd which I got the bare minimum and same for the cpu cooler
Realistically the case was the only thing I could save on

Where do you even see 1440p? I go to best buy and all they have are big 4k monitors and tv's. I still am not even sure what the difference is between it and my 1080p at home are. It just looks like everything is shrunk down so more of it fits on the screen. I could barely see the folders and other things they were so small. Why are we all chasing this magical resolution?

There is no brand warring. Warning against buying bad products is not brand warring. all warnings against 50 series are true. i actually wanted to add the 265k even as a budget workstation option since at it's new price it isn't terrible but character limit is annoying.

Maybe 5GHz P-Core during all-core loads, it's not very beneficial for gaming.

These are some good/detailed guides.
You want to learn more about the voltage regulator's LLC and the CPU's AC/DC load line if you're doing an adaptive OC.
It will help you set nice undervolts too.

The regular LF3 is fine, be aware of the mounting hassle described by other anons.
It's still a great value & reliable AIO (as long as your case & motherboard fits well with it).

maybe your monitor has flicker or you use too high brightness
no you can literally use an oled in light but the pq will be better in light controlled rooms obviously
since older flickers too and has infinite contrast you might need to modify settings and it might cause eye strain too depending on how you use it
plus the perceived color is much intenser on qd so
so pretty much 1000 times that can fuck up your eyes and nobody to tell you what it is until you trial an error it
