>>105736900Macfags being fags is nothing new nor indicative of a larger problem. And for all their shit they still don't do very well supporting vidya because they insist on Metal instead of standardized Vulkan. Still, there are tons of other examples to the contrary.
Massive amount of work on the Linux kernel alone come from Intel, AMD, Huawei, Google, Oracle, RedHat and more, while many of these and others contribute to drivers (Intel networking is a big one, AMD of course does a lot of work with FOSS GPU drivers) and big userspace projects including KDE, GNOME,etc. Hell, Valve is probably a great example with not just writing an entire fucking compositor with Gamescope and contributions to Wayland and X, Arch, all the driver work they demanded for GPUs and other hardware, their benefits to Wine, DXVK, D9VK and everything else that makes up Proton, and the creation of the SteamVR/OpenVR features which are pretty much THE alternatives to proprietary shit like Meta's when it comes to VR. You could whine that Valve makes money because of this but
>Well gee they support Linux and make Linux and FOSS gaming more viable, so people who like Linux go there to buy their games, who'd a fuckin thunk it. isn't exactly meaning that Valve was either languishing beforehand nor that these projects aren't getting a lot of benefits from Valve. If DXVK and/or Wine wanted to throw a big shit fit about Valve coming in and massively contributing to their projects, I guess they could but they don't seem to feel their work was "stolen" ifanything its the opposite, enjoying the resources and benefits.
Admittedly Valve is not a typical corpo (they're privately held after all and Gaben is willing to spend time and money to push back against proprietary lockdown because he saw that bullshit coming), but FOSS licenses are a near universal good compared to the alternatives and Apple, notoriously vertically integrated not giving back enough isnt a wide rebuke.
