Why would anyone want to use Arch over something more commonly supported like Ubuntu?

You didn't have to type all of that to tell me that you have no explanation why Arch is better than Ubuntu.

One is not better than the other. They cater to different use cases. Me, I would never use Ubuntu except from a live USB stick. Reasons being that I'm used to Arch now, its package manager, I like how easy it is to install a minimal system, and I don't need a USB stick to install on a different disk or partition on the same computer if I already have an Arch installation. and I don't have to disable or configure a ton of bloat. I only install what I want. The rolling release model is simple and everything is updooted at the same time to the latest stable version, any time I want, and reboot when I want. Wangblows could only dream of this succinctness and simplicity.

>rolling release.
>does not come with 50 different calculators.
>pacman is superior.
>arch does not have a (((community))).
>filters people who can't run programs, manage files and edit configs via terminal.
>the AUR even had drivers for my old arse printer and scanner.
>the arch wiki is really good.

I tried using Ubuntu and it was a really miserable experience. It's no wonder people who don't use arch Linux always go back to windows.

AUR and Pacman. Having the ability to get any piece of software, even proprietary, without fiddling around with awful github makefiles and compiling shit from scratch to make basic software work is the magic that makes Arch. The Ubuntu custom repos absolutely suck in comparison and not flexible.

I used Ubuntu before I used Arch. I like Arch better. Ubuntu is always lagging behind on the latest version of stuff. Ubuntu always broke on version upgrades for me. Arch is always "up to date" because it is a rolling release, and I rarely have an update that requires any sort of manual intervetion. Also, I left around the time Ubuntu dumped unity for gnome. Gnome was terrible, so it was extra incentive to go somewhere else.

Everything on my computer I put there
Don't have to deal with retarded settings by the devs
Don't have to deal with 3000 PPAs
Don't have to deal with changing versions every few years
Pacman is the best package manager there is
Everything is in the AUR
Don't have to wait a decade for simple features

the reasons why i use arch, not that my opinion means anything. rolling release, minimal base packages, easy to install if u can read, not opinionated, aur is nice, and large community. i think maybe the only "bad" thing is systemd, but i really do not care. i will put it this way, every major distribution uses it for a reason.

Personally despite the memes I've found once you have it set up it just kind of werks and stays out of your way. Granted I tend to stick with official repos + Flatpak, but the AUR is nice to have in a pinch or if you want to experiment with alpha/beta software. It also seems to be a mainly community driven project that aren't faced with weekly controversies or corporate meddling like a lot of other distros.

That said I do kind of wish there was a "slowroll" version similar to openSUSE. I don't really care about having cutting edge software.
