How can I get a job where my team will not be jeets? That is all I care about at this point. How can I filter them out?
>internal company hackathon AKA invite CISO to crawl up your ass
Nahhhhhhhhhhhh!
>>105799749Just be a white woman
Reposting the question:
What's the best time to ask for a promotion? In terms of tenure, assuming you've been overperforming but there's been no drastic change in responsibilities
>>105799692>when you have a competing offer otherwise there's no pointWhy not? At my company people regularly get promotions
Imagine being such a braindead american that you count employer tax as a tax paid by the employee but only in europe and not in the us, and use this figure based on gross employment income ehich by definition already accounts from that from the raw employer disbursement.
Even 5 year olds in europe can do math better than that. Explain yourselves, amerilards.
>>105799764Bad larp. Nobody does promotions in 2025.
>>105799784Guess my company is stuck in the past then
Retard when will you realize that a recession doesn't automatically mean every single company stops growing?
>>105799749Go to yurop (not uk or gerfaggy)
What's the best way to ask to be laid off?
>>105799798>get called out>cry like a faglarp better next time lil bro
>>105799725 (OP)>GET OUT OF TECHI'm literally not good at anything else. I have no talents at all. I'm not creative. I have terrible social skills. I'm not good at business or investing. I'm terrible at math (beyond the bare minimum needed to be a coder). I could do basic physical labor, but nothing involving precise movements (I have terrible fine motor control). I can't do anything high stress since I panic all the time. If I have to stop programming, I'm completely worthless
>>105799830tech is the 4th highest-stress career retard
>>105799850Oh no, that kind of stress is fine. I just don't care enough. I mean like... I couldn't operate one of those construction site cranes because I'd be constantly worried about killing everyone by accident.
>>105799816Fine, assume it's a larp and the question is theoretical. Now can you even answer it?
What the fuck did you just say about AI replacement you CEO bitch? I'll will have you know if your ambition goes only so far to see AI as substitute for humans to do the same unit of work instead of aiming for the stars and conquering new markets you are no visionary and failed as a leader. You think you can get away with pacifying shareholders with mass layoffs across the board? Think again fucker. As we speak there are people not obsessing over the next quarterly earnings call but busy building superior experiences and raising the bar which will undercut your margins big time. Your entire business model is being targeted for disruption right now so you better prepare for the paradigm shift, maggot. The storm that wipes out your pathetic little thing you call your market share. You are a living fossil, kid. These people can code circles around your army of jeets just with access to the relevant RFCs. They are more than capable to utilize the best in class language models to their full extent. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little โcleverโ cost-saving measure was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't and now you are going to be outcompeted, you absolute clown. AI will shit all over your technical moat and your product will drown. You are fucking deprecated, kiddo
in 2022 I made 6 figures a year. Now I have not had a job for year and a half.
Tell me how awesome AI is
>1.5 years in
>a few more responsibilities than when I started
>Always overperforming
Should I ask for a promotion?
>>105799725 (OP)Quick! Everyone into accounting so it can be saturated too!
>>105799944It's not AI, it's outsourcing.
>finally weekend

>>105799749Military projects. It doesn't completely eliminate the possibility since some of them are citizens or have green cards, but since it filters out all the visa holders and those who can't pass a background check, the odds of them being around are far lower.
You guys are fucking slow. Back in late 2024 I was in a meeting with directors where they announced that most workforce would get a digital twin (AI slop). So I left and now I'm in comfy IT audit job where it's required human approval for every shit due to regulatory laws.
>>105800066Really just depends - if you havenโt gotten a raise in a year and a half, I would definitely propose one. That being said, it all depends on the size of your company and how they handle raises.
Just learn as much as you can; itโs how to stay in this field long term. Dumbasses lose their jobs because they get an entry or mid level software engineering position in one language and try to do that for the rest of their life. They never learn backend, additional languages, frontend, dev ops, cloud infrastructure, etc. These jobs always have people who are willing to hand their responsibilities to others so they donโt have to work, and itโs a ripe opportunity to learn something new. After a couple of years, youโll literally be indispensable and able to easily get a new job if you desire.
>>105800066>>Always overperforming>Should I ask for a promotion?AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
why the fuck would they promote you if you are a good worker? they might depend on you to stay "overperforming"...
>>105800290bocchi the reddit
>>105800302anon the parrot
>>105800210>why the fuck would they promote you if you are a good worker? Because they know I'll switch to a better company if they don't promote me at some point. At least they'd be retarded not to deduce that considering a) that's how I joined them and b) I'm talented enough to find another opportunity.
>>105800066i felt i was under paid three years in and asked for a meeting to discuss salary. they said sure, then i got laid off before any meeting took place kek. been unempleyed for a year now. just look for another job and leave.
>>105800338Secondary reasons are also
C) I'm very young and fairly early into my career
D) while I'm ab expert in the area I'm currently working in I'm fullstsck so I'm not trapped at that job
Is this basically what happened to software engineering too?
>>105800338>Because they know I'll switch to a better companyIn this climate?.
>>105799865crane ops is like bottom of the list in terms of stress. You don't know shit retard
>>105800375Nearly 500 million jeets have gone online since this graph was made.
>>105800377In my country and specific area the job market is fine
In fact it's more than fine which is why gigacorpos are seething nonstop about workers not working enough and not enough immigrants being brought in
>>105800338this isn't 1975 dumb jobless retard
>>105799865It's ok, half of them are probably crack addicts anyway and if you're in America 90% of them are beaners.
Iโm gonna be in this company for a year now. First tech job, pays shit but people are cool. Like every start up, the tier 1 is actually tier 2 work and my tier 3 usually deals with major network infrastructures. Sometimes even dealing with critical infrastructure. My last two reviews were good, they even asked me if I wanted to move into QA since thatโs my collateral duty or our tier 2 team. Iโm simply not interested in, I rather get paid hourly than salary and also have time at home to study and fuck my wife. Currently got Sec+ (employer paid for) and working towards CySA and CISSP. Work with Ubuntu, cctv networks, and high level security shit. Not clearance and I smoke weed regularly. What should I do bros? I donโt want to get pigeon hole, market is grim as fuck but I want to transition to something different. Word on the street theyโre opening a SOC position. I want to hop on that. In the meantime, Iโm just reading CySA material and taking CISSP courses.
>>105800405For shits and giggles i may consider going to an Ivy League mba program. Fuck it
>>105800396Why is it so unbelievable to some retards ITT that some people are competent?
>>105800455Because competence doesn't get you the interview unless you have a god tier resume or have very solid connections.
>>105800338this is why
>>105799764 was told to have a competing offer in hand, just in case
Starting Monday, Iโll be doing interviews... Iโm scared, bros.
What if I reject a schizo who ends up hunting me down?
>>105800494>Because competence doesn't get you the interview unless you have a god tier resume I unironically have bare minimum social skills but I have a god tier degree and I guess I'm really good at interviews.

>>105800631Just don't be a bitch or rude and give constructive feedback if requested.
>>105800631Auto-reject jeets.
>>105800687I was told by HR that I was not allowed to give any feedback because last year there was a fresh grad with no experience that was told we didn't hire him because he lacked experience and he spent almost 6 months spamming their inboxes with insults and threats, so we just sent the basic "Your skills are impressive but there were other candidates that aligned more with what we were looking for"
At least we wont ghost you.
>>105800718Your HR sounds retarded. No wonder you get these schizos.
>>105800745If I was a fresh out of college with a cs degree and no internships I would go insane too to be fair.
What is going on in here? Every single post is trying to convince me tech work is bad.
>>105800780because it is? it's boring and tedious af if you don't enjoy the actual work, solving technical problems and stuff. everything else, incl. the "social" parts, are shit.
>>105800780if you actually had a job in tech you would know how bad things really are
>>105800788>>105800815My past job was like that, my current job isn't
So it highly depends on the job
>>105800815If you work at some trash consulting firm then sure but most of you sound like NEETS
>>105800455because some people have jobs and thus can't be so easily tricked by middle schoolers like yourself.
>>105800576even competing offers do nothing. For like 2 decades they just automatically write you off if you pull that shit, sometimes they fire you depending on company policies (but rarer because they usually have to pay severance then)
>>105800833just wait a bit more until C-suites get creative and change your role, start demanding more responsibilities, force you to do shit you don't want to, fire competent people, deny you a promotion/raise, etc.
>>105800788there is no solving shit in modern tech work is more like it.
>>105799749start your own biz and filter them hard

>>105800872next-level projections right here
>>105800938I mean, that's part of the scam that is the tech industry. but as long as we can have some fun and make some good money without being interrupted, it's all good.
>>105800939joining open sores does nothing but yes to starting your own business. Much harder than ever though and basically impoasible to do consulting anymore.
>>105800922Physically impossible. Fire me? Sure
Anything else? Nope
>>105800967Oh my sweet summer child
>>105800977Look anon I'm not a retard. I know which directions they can push me in, I see what other roles exist at the company. I'm highly specialised so the only thing they can push on me is management responsibility and that's about it and there it's easy to argue for more
>>105800967if you aren't LARPing, consider yourself lucky.
don't forget that things and people change, and also don't forget the
>etc.though :^)
>>105800338empty threats, unless you have an OFFER
in which case you are supposed to tell them you have an OFFER but like working for your current masters if they can match it. And you will receive a counteroffer in the range of 90-95% of the competing offer. It is all so tiresome
>>105800631let everyone pass and you will be the kid spared by timmy. For real, what's in it for you to reject someone? Do you have stake in the company? No? Then you should hire the bottom of the barrel so your own work gets valued more. Depending on your attitude it also means rejecting smart ones if you really want to jobmax. Anyway
>>105800712 is a given
>>105801010When you already have an offer it's already pointless, since they'll promptly fire you asap after discovering your disloyalty
>>105800966depends on if it is funded or not
starting a biz should be easier than ever, everyone is playing safe and AI supposed to crank out slop much quicker + talent is abundant. I would say it is a golden era.
>>105801045>easier than ever>everyone playing it safeHow retarded are you

Let us play through that scenario:
>you work at company a>you jobsearch and get lucrative offer from company b>you go to company a and say "guys I've got an offer with so and so money, can you match it?"HERES WHATS GONNA HAPPEN NOW, TWO OPTIONS:
Option A
>"sorry anon, can't do"Easy enough, you switch to the other company
option b
>"sure anon! Now every idiot is in tech, everyone I went to high school with that had non CS degrees is now a project manager or product manager or something. Not to mention its flooded with Jeets. I hate it.

I work for one of those and there are plenty people who work B2B with the agency. So essentially you'd be working B2B2B.
And also since the client is foreign and the agency itself doesn't give a flying fuck, you can work fully remote from wherever the fuck you want if you can handle the timezone shift.

Just finished my CCNA exam and I'm not sure where to go from here. My current job is a shitty helpdesk position that while it pays well is a complete dead end. What certifications should I look into next if I want to continue down the route of network engineer or branch to cyber security?
I'd kind of like to work remote, but as I understand it that era has passed. What are the odds of finding a job, even a part time one, in networking/cyber security?
>>105801952I've never had a counter offer, but a lot of it is because I've always applied for a bigger role. When may pay has gone up 50-60% for jumping ship, it's always a "that's great anon, good for you for following your dreams!"
My biggest complaint about company structure is when a position does open, they will only hire in house if you screw yourself. I applied for a system admin position at my old job after working there four years, they offered me $10k extra on my $40k/year salary when I knew the guy who came before was making over $100k. I was so disgusted I told them outright that the offer wasn't even close to what previous/current employees made. I started applying elsewhere and left three months later.
I only know one guy who ever moved from a low end position to a higher end one at a company and actually got a reasonable salary increase, and it was because he was a personal friend of the IT director for the company.
>>105802047Not him, but in my younger days, I got suspiciously fired from a job after my supervisor received a call from a company I had applied to (Even though I specifically told them on my application not to contact the current company I worked for). I was told I was under performing and that the company had decided to close my position, despite excellent performance reviews up until then.
It may not be like this at every job, but the threat is real and you have to treat it as such unless you're not an "at will" employee.

Cybersecurity/Hacking(separate jobs)
Networking(CCNP SP or Enterprise)
program management(scrum, PMP, MBA/Masters)
general manager(masters degree required)
VOIP/AV(barely any certs but you can get hired with CCNA)
Devops(programming required)
Database(programming/degree)
Server(linux certs redhat is gold but homelabs are king)
Many many more jobs out there but with your CCNA you should shoot your shot and try to 2x or 3x your current pay.
>>105806956Americans keep complaining about jeets, but now that ICE has become probably the fifth strongest army in the world, you can just get a comfy job ejecting spics out of the country.

I need to pivot away from this shit asap but everyone has the same idea.
>>105807787It means blue collar jobs and future factory jobs will open with americans working it. Hopefully and this is a long shot hope we see rental/housing prices drop to make up for not so great pay growth that we have seen during this funny money printing. The military got a bump of a couple hundred billion so there going to be buying equipment and restocking heavily.
Hope for the best but expect the worst.
>>105807789System's programming has the same issues with jeets and oversaturation. AppDev is dead and webdevs are expected to also maintain apps for iOS and Android.
>>105807787This will hugely affect devs employed at Taco Bell.
>>105807763I'm on my way to a masters in Computer Information Systems with a Cyber Security specialization, but that's more a placeholder than anything. Someone made a good argument to me that a degree doesn't expire and need to be renewed like a cert, so I figured it makes a great fallback if nothing else.
What should I look at if I want to branch into hacking? Pen testing was always an interest to me but when I first started working in IT in the mid 2000s, I always passed up anything like that because I assumed wanting to be hackerman was just a meme.
>>105807802What it means is more domestic migration to the border of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California but no new factories.
>>105807836Hackerman has a shit ton of certs. Finish your degree after your Masters degree then it no longer matters anymore.
certs matter more once your done. You will have to train with alot of labs to even do some of the higher end ones.
https://pauljerimy.com/security-certification-roadmap/
>>105807802>jobs and future factory jobs will open with americans working itYou mean africans will be imported to work those jobs.
Remember the "they eat the cats" meme about Haitians in Springfield Ohio? That was the same deal, non-Whites were brought in (legally) because a factory wanted cheap labour.
>>105807855That is indeed a shit ton of certs, but it does give me an idea what to look through. My supervisor has a CISSP certification, I thought about just going for that too so I could at least match him.
Any idea how difficult some of the lower level penetration testing certs are? I guess I could start with the CompTIA PenTest+ cert on a slower semester. The only thing good about my job right now is that it's piss easy, I regularly have 8 or more hours on the clock to blow off how I want, and while I got lazy for the last couple of years I've been hitting my education hard since February since I had an epiphany that I would be stuck in this place forever unless I got back to school.
>>105807934Btw don't make the mistakes of getting too many certs as otherwise employers will get unnecessarily suspicious. 5 or less.
>>105807968Ah, good point. It's probably a good idea to make it not look like I'm padding my resume.
>>105807978Same anon as the cert poster. Yeah i agree with the other guy. Its not pokemon collecting them all can hurt you and its a huge pain to maintain them at the same time. What you need is primary certs which is your specialization and at most secondary certs if you want to be a bonified engineer(which also requires masters degree)
For me I want to build data centers as a engineer so my ball park estimation is server related certifications, networking, training on how to program and general lab experience. It may not be a perfect pigeon hole for that job but generally that would be the main reason why you would want to get extra certs.
>>105799865> Doesn't want to play Mexican killer 6000>>>/r/eddit
>>105806919there are MANY reports of such experiences as well, and other shit like recruiters sending your resume to your employer and the likes, so it sounds rather common overall

Any particular IT jobs I should look for if I want a part time job I can do at night for a few hours? I'd like to pick up something small, like 10 or so extra hours a week doing some form of IT work.
