Or would it decrease tech productivity because you're missing work for 1 week every 2 years?

No. Best you get now is 12 paid federal holidays and 1 week PTO that you have to use if you get sick. After 5 years you get another week (2 total). After 20 years you get another week. No retirement but they'll match 1% on a 401k.

Nope. "Standard" is like 2 weeks, not contiguously useable. Usually you have to work at a company for a long time to get a 3rd week, and eventually a fourth. 4 weeks vacation is a pretty big perk 2bh.

I hate American work/corporate culture. Fucking cancer.

Weirdly I work for a US company but in the UK and we get 30 paid data off a year, with the option to carry 5 and buy an additional 5 so a total of 40 days or 8 weeks off a year. If I don't take the minimum amount (25) I would get carried in to an HR meeting and have they forcibly assigned. There's no option not to use them, although I can sell 5.

one of the few perks of my 3rdie shithole. 99% of companies i worked for were american and WHEN i got vacation days it was federal holidays + 7d per 5y worked
i make a lot less now but i get 30d + federal holidays + state holidays + unlimited sick days (if you have a drs note stating it's a debilitating disease - they tend not to fuck around with those because faking them can lead to losing their license)
i miss making 2x as much but there are perks

You're an idiot. Nowhere that gives unlimited PTO respects you. It's an HR scam. An accounting trick. If they don't define your vacation days you don't accrue vacation time. They owe you nothing. Accrued vacation goes onto the books as a debt owed by the company to you. This is why companies limit what you can accrue and sometimes companies will force vacations to lower their debt. When you leave a job with accrued vacation you get PAID for those days. If you leave an unlimited PTO job you get NOTHING. And employees with unlimited PTO actually use fewer vacation days.
