It's literally easier from a technical perspective to just use a illegal streaming service than it is to sign up for Netflix, download the app, verify email and credit card and then log in.

I literally don't believe this shit as my boomer mom got frustrated trying to set up Netflix and just googled show name stream and it worked.

only time i've ever seen an attempt at malware in a video (not a .mp4.exe thing, but an actual video) is with specially made .wmv files (a long long time ago), as .wmv has a feature where if a .wmv needs a codec/licence to play, it can have windows media player pop up asking to visit a url that was embedded in the file to get said codec/license. which naturally can be pointed anywhere and trick people into installing malware thinking it's just required software to play a new file

I don't even know how to take back-ups. Do I have to have some NAS drive going or what's best way to take backups? The drive that died was 4tb external hdd, but if we're talking about backups that implies that my backup drive would have to be even bigger than that. I don't know what's safest but also most economic solution for backuping

I'm a zoomer and I pirate shit all the time. Literally never had a virus, just exercise common sense and if you're using a DDL site just look up whether it's reputable.
I don't even know how you would get malware from pirating a show (although win11 does hide file extensions by default so it's slightly harder to check if it's an exe); this is probably satire.

a backup, put simply, is a second copy of important data. that's all it is. with a strong emphasis on said copy being a cold copy, meaning it's not physically attached to a computer except when being updated
there's countless ways to do this, even just the most basic form which is taking an external hdd and coping data to it and storing it is fine for most people, the important thing to remember is that it is a COPY. just having data on an external drive is not a backup, because the defining property is not whether it's external, but whether there's more than one copy

put simply, if you could run a script that deletes everything currently attached to your computer, internal drives, external drives, and even network drives. anything you can't restore is not backed up. period

how do people get viruses these days? doesnt the built in microsoft anti virus catch most things? wouldnt they have to disable it to get infected? do you think they are following the instructions on some "video file" thats telling them to disable the antivirus to watch a video? I legit wanna know. I work in IT and I rarely see people get infected these days because of all the protections built in to browsers and in windows. I think the only time I personally had a virus happen to my client was because some retard left rdp ports open to the whole world on the firewall for an accounting server.

i presume you mean autoruns that actually ran automatically without use input, they made it an extra click in vista (like the os pops if you want to run the autorun or a couple other options, while previous windows would just run the autorun if it was present). also technically speaking it wasn't because an exe was named "autorun.exe", it's actually autorun.inf which defines which .exe to run and what icon to give the drive in my computer

Autorun still shows up all the time for scene releases of video games since they're packaged as isos or bin/cues

But I don't even bother with mounting anymore I just extract the iso as it it were a zip and run setup.exe and it works. It still has an auto run exe and inf of course since it is a legitimate disk image you could in theory burn

They probably still do that because there's still third world places with poor internet that have a physical piracy scene, or maybe just tradition because these guys are all in their 50s and 60s by now

This, I trust archive.org. Not some backwater 1337x or RarBG. Maybe I’m just too stupid to pirate, or piratetards are the idiots I think they are. How anyone could rationalize running a game “crack” program as administrator is beyond me. Or anything from a public P2P network on a machine that isn’t Linux or made to be thrown away. Private trackers are different but at that point it doesn’t matter about the money you save because you have no life. RedLine Stealer used screensaver files, you really think there isn’t some vestigial part of the MPEG codec that can be exploited to make you have to reset all your shit?
