Everyone who knows a little bit of coding knows this. Sometimes they hallucinate so hard, they drag you into dead end rabbit holes, making you waste a considerable amount of time.
AI can be good to prompt you with options on how to proceed in certain scenarios, but from there, it's up to you to decide which path to follow and how to implement it.

LLMs certainly can reason. They can reason better than most people I have met. However, because they are natural language models, they do best with natural language reasoning. They are not as good at code, and they suck at math. Eventually we will need to move away from LLMs. One alternative is multi-modal models, that can incorporate all types of data like mathematics, visual input, physics simulations etc.

But saying that LLMs have no capacity to reason just because they are not great at generating code is not really valid.
