When did this artificial hate against ads start? Back in the day no one was bitching about ads in magazines or unskippable ads on tv. But now everyone acts like it's the end of the world to see some banners on websites or 10 second long ad before youtube video.

Back in the day ads were reasonable.

Well I do agree that popups are the most annoying thing ever invented, but that's not the case in most sites.

magazine ads had to be interesting or else you'd just flip the page

everyone always hated television commercials

The mute button on TV remotes is for commercials. Nobody ever called it piracy.

It's always been about control. Ads in magazines have no control, you flip the page yourself. Billboards, commercials, radio spots have more control. You are invested in driving, watching, listening. So they interrupt your view, plot, mood to force an ad into your brain while you are captive, waiting for the ad to pass. So magazine ads try to be appealing or at least interesting, but Youtube ads try to spam a brand name you can't help but remember into the 5 seconds it takes the skip button to appear.

Ads are essential for economy. How else new competitors can challenge existing corporations? They also keep prices down for average users.

I sincerely hope that everyone who has ever worked for an ad agency goes to hell

I always hated ads in tv and on the internet. You are retarded sheep. In magazines ads couldn't force you to look at them. You don't want to look at it, you flip the page.

No, they aren't. Ad never convinced me to buy anything. I do research everytime I buy something. And I compare prices and labels on food when I buy groceries.

Nah, I was there when they first started adding ads to the web, you'd get popups, pop-unders, all manner of annoying shit, it was literally unusable until ad-blockers and pop-up blockers and such were created. This was back in the 90s.

Unless you mean way back in the day before the web.

Actual popups were only an issue with internet explorer and it's ActiveX shit, banners were just a thin gif and later flash and usually integrated in the website layout.

ADs now mean connecting to hundreds of servers and copies amount of JavaScript bloat appearing after the page has loaded

I turned off personalized ads on YouTube
Now all I get is an ad from Brazil using an AI generated Oprah trying to hype me on pink salt weight loss
I keep reporting it as the obvious scam it is but Google don't give a fuck

With TV you're passively receiving a stream of content. Ads are some of the content. With online ads you are actively picking content and being served something completely else. They are inherently intrusive. Also retards keep thinking "People will sit through a five minute ad break, so they will sit through five minutes of just my ad." and no I will fucking not.

I wouldn't dream of buying a 32X, but at least the magazine ads clearly weren't invasive
