Every technical discipline does consume products, but very little make it their core identity. The principles of electrical engineering, telecommunications, and even computer science are generally applicable no matter what tools you are using. Cybersecurity is entirely about knowing how to consume products with nothing truly underlying it. Why else would the entire industry be propped up by overpriced certifications that are basically silo'd to specific vendors?
