I had a hard crash the other day and Firefox lost all my profile data. I got it back by editing a couple of .ini files and had bookmarks and profile setting/extensions backed up regularly, but it still got to me and gave me a panic attack at the thought of having to reorganize everything. I don't know where I'm going with this, just venting.

Firefox mobile is decent and offers syncing as well as extensions. I even prefer the interface, in fact from what I've heard Chrome started copying it. I can't speak in terms of performance comparisons or bugs, but it serves my needs very well because my needs involve browsing 4chan while on the toilet. In fact, I'm shitposting right now.

I think people are unaware of how dire the browser situtation is. It seems very likely that Mozilla won't receive its normal funding from Google soon. They lowered it to 70% dependency, but that's still a huge amount. This means they'll have to find funding elsewhere, probably by adopting Google like practices. The only other options are Chromium based, ie they are Chrome reskins. Unless you want to use Safari. I have zero hope for Ladybird. You cannot develop something as massive and important as a browser engine by yourself. It's just not possible.

Same, this shit is awful. Would have thought there would have been some simple fix to force re-enable them but I guess if the jeets at google want to play hardball I'll just drop them. It was mostly just my accumulated bookmarked tabs and ease of use of extensions that kept me on chrome until now.
Should I get brave or firefox now? Which works better with ublock and 4chanx which are the main two extensions that I run alongside Sponsorblock

Their actual numbers have never been good for making profit from their search engines or youtube or anything, they needed to do something. Gambling their monopoly probably wasn't the best play, but if they had to do that their numbers really were bad.
And I'm not gonna be some delusional person who thinks they're just trying to shake people out here, you don't disable 4chanX and also ublock and not expect people to leave for good. Maybe personal data just isn't selling like it used to? Or people are just so short on spending money they aren't making as much as they used to on ads?
Anonymous No.105874899 [Report] >>105874957
>>105874862
I'm pretty sure they do this because they know most of their userbase isn't technical enough to even care. You'd be amazed what non technical people put up with because they have no idea it doesn't have to be this bad. Most people don't even use an adblocker in the first place anyway.

>>105874899
If they're deliberately targeting adblockers though they're targeting people who have been using them for years and might be somewhat technical.
I don't really believe this theory because there's no way they actually think the amount of ads they have every video on youtube or on some random webpage isn't gonna be extremely obtrusive to some guy using an adblocker for the last 10 years - they have to know he'll switch, and he's bound to switch because of the sheer quantity of ads.

This excuse worked the first time with the little warning messages and making it disabled but re-enableable, but it won't work this time where they just outright make them not work unless you do a extremely specific thing that they'll patch soon.

Transilla wastes like 90% of their revenue on woke propaganda. Only a fraction goes into actual developmental costs. I wouldn't worry about it. Plus, if things actually become dire, Google will just become forced to give them money once again lest face yet another legal battle for being a monopoly.

They're targeting all manifest v2 addons, which is why 4chan-x was hit as well. They want to switch completely to manifest v3, and they are. Firefox will for the most part switch too, except where adblockers are concerned. Manifest v3 is more safe for the end user, at the cost of killing things like uBlock Origin. uBOL, for example, can't pull down new filter lists like uBo can, because that functionality is disabled in manifest v3. This stops malicious addons from downloading shit from the internet, as an example.

They may be using this as an excuse to hit adblockers, but at the same time there are genuine reasons to use v3, and a lot of them are security. Firefox even had something like this happen about 10 years ago, when Mozilla decided to disallow XORG or whatever it was. I guess what I'm saying is that it's a complicated situation.

I love it how kids just... don't use these sites instead of logging in though.
They didn't think that through did they?

I wonder if the next move will be FORCING people to use MFA internet and eliminating offline means.
By the way, prisons are at capacity nowadays because kids already want to break this system. This could turn that prison climate into full mad max. I've already been attacked by youths. I know many people have been.

Shit like this is causing it.
And they justify it on the basis of "protecting children". Whose children? Certainly not any around me. They're being attacked in the streets because you impoverished so many youths with these protocols and then covered up those facts.

But it's reached a point where the reality is so prima facie obvious and so in conflict with reported statistics that the average joe is beginning to think they're nothing but horseshit in some Half Lie 2 -esque way. Even my dumb senile parents, complete nuffies for the tv and mainstream facts, the most basic target for propaganda, has some doubts now to the point where it's really upsetting them.

Any foxchads here know how I can get the address bar to autofill more than just the base domain name, like Chrome does? For example, on Chrome it would fill in the most used board for me too.

Chrome fills it in the actual bar, so I can type "4" then hit enter and be brought to the board.
I get what you're getting too, but I still have to use the down arrow key to select it first or click with a mouse.

Firefox has been cucked for a while now. Used it since 2004 but I'm switching to more privacy friendly forks such as librewolf and fennec. Anyone knows of a better alternative let me know.

Fuck chromium. I'd only consider using Brave if Firefox breaks uBO.

why are there absolutely no news articles on this? It feels like a pretty big deal, all these people migrating from chrome because of the v2 drop.
Or are we that much of a minority and no one in the wide world gives a shit about having to deal with ads?

there were everywhere when it all started with the mv3 stuff, why do you think they made the articles and stuff so long ago? so people forget about it.

When firefox killed xul/cpcom and even jetpack (their own addon sdk) and replaced it with something with 1/10 of its flexibility about half of the extensions I was using were unable to port to crippledxtensions.

With mv2 to mv3 I would only notice it for ublock, if at all.

The browser I'm using is still keeping the mv2 extensions enabled, we'll see how much that lasts but yet it also has a build in adblocker compatible with uBo lists.

One of the main devs of Seamonkey also died last year too, it's practically abandoned and still using the Firefox 60 engine with a few cherry picked patches. Seamonkey is practically a "museum piece" browser now instead of actually being functional. Pale Moon is also struggling to keep Goanna functional with all the new standards. It's only a matter of time before Cloudflare stops giving it special treatment and tell them to update their engine properly.

The vast majority of people don't use a PC, this would be weird and obscure news to them. Most people who read those news articles are 90 year old boomers and would not know what an "ad blocker" is.

How do I get the Firefox Picture-in-Picture window to match the video's native resolution?

Example: I'm watching a youtube video. I set it to 360p. I enable PiP. The video window is automatically set to 640x360. I turn the video resolution up to 720p. The video windows resizes to 1280x720.

I'm not familiar with the about:config preferences, if they even exist, but if it's mainly a YouTube thing you could try Enhancer for YouTube's PIP mode as it has some extra settings. I can't guarantee that they will do exactly what you want though, but it can be manually resized.
