IIRC once the troonening hit he pretty much stopped appearing in videos and then left, I imagine Linus didn't want much exposure of that shit on his channel because no matter what you do you're likely to get fucked by engaging with it. I bet any video featuring Shrek performed at least 30-50% below expectations, and likely the entire channel took AoE damage.
