I'm fixing a PC and the SSD is definitely in read only mode. So it has to go. Thing is, I don't know if that's the only thing that's wrong with the laptop. Only clues are the BSODs, currently showing either SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION or MEMORY MANAGEMENT errors. How can I be sure the SSD is the only thing wrong with it? no I don't have another SSD to test.

A businesses dependant on its software platform loses all its important engineers and its janky undocumented platform begins failing. They need to get things back up and running ASAP before they lose all their clients

What kind of business to they contract to explore their architecture and get things running again? is this the purpose of an MSP? It must be very lucrative right?
I think I'm good at mapping out services and working out whats going on without any documentation. Can this be a well paying skill? with how stupid the monkeys are that run my current job there must surely be other businesses that find themselves in dire straights when the one competent techie ragequits

I spent three afternoons overtime resolving the issue that'd be simple if I knew the context.

I kind of understand the gnome guy's of asking for an use case. Remember a lot of people request help like
"I need to change folders ownership to 700" not "chroot in my broken kubernetes app doesn't work". Use case for chroot in kubernetes app? A sso based user jail hosted on your "cloud"? (workstation with 10 drives).

Burn ASUS to the ground but help me first fix this shit. Some guy installed PDFW update thing for TBT5 without checking with me first and get it company 's M5506UA charges exclusively on TBT5. The update turned off the type c ports and i guess corrupted the firmware for it. Laptop has 0 battery now so kinda stuck. So either a way to bypass battery security to charge it like lenovo has, or some voodoo shit to get it charged before trying to fix anything else would be cool.

Assus keeps releasing buggy updates for their laptops recently and i'm trying to convince management it's not user error the vendor update is trash

On top of that I need to beef up my github, do LeetCode and learn the niches I am aiming for far deeper than my current job calls for.
And then there's the job search and preparing for interviews.

I just don't have time for everything, especially when you include all the other shit I have to do outside of work.

Don't. You should try to work for a larger contracting company, don't freelance. At best you end up *way* underpaid (even for a contractor) working for tiny startups but often you just have no work at all.

Also you're doing all the business development you would be if you were running your own startup. Acquiring consulting clients is just as hard (if not harder) as acquiring customers.

I don't mean dual degree i meant the degrees that have both concepts together. Surely they can't be that bad right? ECE and Comp E are somewhat both concepts of CS / EE. Getting a minor would be pretty good too in hindsight.

This guy clearly wants to work on hardware and firmware without having to be a licensed EE.

Aww shit niggas.
It's going down at my job.

President came to town to fire an employee that has been with the company for 25 years and an employee that has been there for 8 years due to "financial downsizing".
Turns out, he let them go and moments later an employee who is friends with them also quit by sending an all user e-mail simply saying "I quit". Then, another employee (the 25 year employee's subordinate) also sends an all user e-mail saying they quit as well.
So we have no one over customer service, no one with knowledge on how to schedule roasts, no one to do paperwork or track that and no one with the knowledge how to do so LOL

There was a controlled reviewed and published study that showed that surprisingly mathematical skill has no relation with programming skill whatsoever.

The only stable predictor of programming skill was linguistic skill. This also explains why there are so many Indians as they usually speak 3 languages natively while their own language is filled with words from a fourth language. As to why other immigrants that speak multiple languages fail? The difference is that Hindi (and all other Indo-Iranian languages) and English (and most other European languages) belong to the same genetic family.

Not quite. IQ tests are heavily biased toward linguistic skills, which is why jews forged it to toward this since they specialize in this mostly. IQ != linguistic. It's an indicator of intelligence, but I know dumbasses who know three or four languages. So no, it's not.

And you have to wonder about someone's IQ if they keep getting fooled by dumb women most of their lives. Or getting scammed out of their money by retarded indians. Or someone on the street hustling someone or even stealing their wallet through trickery. For such smart people, they do dumb shit.

Nice. I also plan to work another at least ~5 years hopefully and then do something else for less $$$ instead of being a corporate drone. Don't really want to leanFIRE either. Buying in HCOL is an emotional decision currently. I used to own a waterfront house before I was forced to move at 3%. It took a year to sell. Housing is going to dump in Seattle/Bay Area etc as more people get laid off who bought stuff at 50-100% over fmv.

> Why do you have a gap?
I made a ton of money at my last position and decided to take time off to spend with my new son and complete my masters.

I did a masters and grinded out actual work in cpp for a year and took graduate algorithms. Here are my projects and let me shit on your interviews.

Fine, I will start my own business or go to pilot or trade school and become a lineman. At this point a tech job is 100% about the money and I financially only need something to cover monthlys now.

Who says you can't invest more money?

Again, 4% is a widely accepted safe withdrawal rate, i.e. you will never touch your principal if you just withdraw 4% a year.

For 1 mil invested, that's 40k, which is your regular income right now. Just keep living the same way and investing a bit of your income, and your principal will increase.... it's no different from what you're doing now except you have +1 mil in the bank and guaranteed raises if you want to have them.

Texas has a lot of good places. Dallas is probably the best place to be for anyone looking for good standard living. And there's many non city areas thats very chill to be at. You have to throw away the city mentality and be able to enjoy nature a little more but I grew up around country stuff so it's easy for me to go back to living rural if I have to.

rents have gone out of control but before that, you would basically be paying what you would on rent on property taxes and maintenance of a home even if your house is entirely paid off, and the "equity" is fake since you're not actually going to leverage your house for further investments unless you are a lunatic gambler

My last roommate was a programmer and his incompetence was astounding. I would find his notes left around the house and it was always 100-level EE stuff hand-transcribing binary and handwritten notes about what databases are and shit. Really entry level stuff.

He also didn't know how to configure the router, would use his phone instead of his computer to send emails and do video calls, and got mad at me for running a long ethernet cable to my room. He also didn't know how to use a screwdriver.

Somehow he pulled like 90k/yr and literally the only thing I ever saw him do was sit on his macbook and code.

most IT monkeys do all of these things and on a cost centre wage and budget too

you just think the literal only thing they do is PS because you, as a midwit coooooder, only know one language yourself, can only use it for the very specific tasks you memorized from leetcode, and can't conceive of anyone else in your organization doing anything of value

most SWEs are juggling at least 2 languages, more if theyre fullstack webdevs, on top of whatever devops DSL of the week they have to learn
the stuff you IT monkeys do all day is literally just taken for granted by SWEs because if you cant do any of that you cant even get to the real SWE work

Retard when the fuck would that ever be important to them. Its like asking the programmers if paying them so much is worth taking them away from there job to go fix computers. Its why IT and Tech(programing) is considered separate jobs entirely. Your just coping because your brown.

no they are not, its entirely different paradigms
backend guy would have zero clue about the browser outside of how to check API calls and have no concept of how the popular frontend frameworks work
frontend guy would have no idea about proper API design or security or distributed systems
languages are irrelevant but what you do with them is what matters and they are working in entirely different areas conceptually speaking
