RTX 50 Super rumors: 5070 Ti Super 24GB, 5080 Super 24GB, 5070 Super 18GB

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: worth considering if it's significantly cheaper than the 9070 XT.

>Product Notice
AOC Q27G40XMN: nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor but inconsistent QC.
Bad one causes DisplayHDR setting to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.

Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/update-on-thermal-putty-on-gigabyte-graphics-cards-after-further-storage-oil-separation-to-an-alarming-extent-and-silence-as-a-strategy/

Avoid updating Gigabyte motherboard's RGB controller firmware, as it can disable board features such as Q-Flash Plus.

He's probably talking about the cost per frame.
Both NVIDIA and AMD are pacing the generational gains they spec for these gaming cards to maximize long-term profits.
Selling the best possible GPU at all price tiers leaves less room for improvement for successive generations of video cards.

Reposting:

I have an unopened 8700k, STRIX Z370-E, 64gb DDR4-3000 CL16 RAM, and a Deepcool Castle 240EX, (and a 1000w PSU and a case, but I'd hold onto those) I've had sitting around for 7-9 years at this point. Is it worth trying to sell all that minus the case and PSU? (could I get $200 for it?) or am I better off just building it and buying a modern GPU, and then upgrading the CPU, RAM, MOBO, and cooler later?

How much issues will I run into if any trying to use a 4080 with this? Obviously I'll be CPU limited, but in practice I'm wondering how it'd handle say Cyberpunk if I wanted to play at medium to high settings at 1440p at 60fps. Also wondering if the 4000 series GPUs have the right power connections for an older PSU without using the dodgy/flawed converters

>>105942957
I thought about doing that, but there's only so small cases that fit a ATX motherboard can get (and at the moment I don't have a lot of space for shit), and I ended up buying a prebuilt NAS.

I could technically still return that, I'm in the return window to do so, but I really don't want the hassle of setting up my own server, I'm out of drive space at the moment and don't have backups for most of my files and needed something to take care of that ASAP. Plus, those parts would be complete overkill for anything i'd use a home server for: I legitimately do not understand the point of plex and other software most people use in servers, I wouldn't need to be doing transcoding, etc. I just want to access files via the normal windows folder viewer, if I want to watch a movie or anime on the NAS/server, I'd just go to the folder and click the video file.

NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel generate the majority of their profits from selling hardware.
Consumer-grade cards release every two years these days; they release mid-gen refreshes like the Super as a demand-booster.

>>105943140
I would try to sell the components and build a newer PC.

>How much issues will I run into if any trying to use a 4080 with this?
You can play Cyberpunk @ 1440p 60 FPS, but it's kind of a low bar.

>Also wondering if the 4000 series GPUs have the right power connections for an older PSU without using the dodgy/flawed converters
The 40 series cards ship with an adapter; your PSU needs to have three 6+2-pin PCIe power cables.

I bought the KTC M27T6 that's been recommended in the op, and seeing as there are no western reviews I thought I'd give my thoughts after a few days here.

I'm coming from a 4 year old acer 1440p 160hz ips, and I have an lg oled tv. I have also tried and returned a 1440p qoled monitor.
The build quality is surprisingly excellent, the stand has great range of movement. It has an easy to navigate OSD.
For the screen itself, the positives are;
Essentially perfect black levels with local dimming on and good with it off, no blooming that I can notice, motion clarity a bit better than my old acer, colors better than the acer but worse than my oled, HDR looks similar to my oled.
For the negatives, the expected va drawbacks are present but mostly only noticeable if you're looking for them, (mild color warping at the edge of the screen and mediocre viewing angles, white text sometime disappearing on black backgrounds during extreme motion). The cursor and other small elements darkening local dimming on is noticeable, and the screen takes ~5 seconds to wake up.

Overall I'm impressed with it, especially for the price, (I got it for <300 usd after discounts).
I'd say that it's around 80% of the experience you get with and oled, and without the risk of burn in and text clarity issues that are very noticeable at 1440p. It lacks the wow that oleds have, though, and if you already have a similar ips monitor and especailly if you do a lot of desktop stuff rather than gaming, I would only get a miniled if black levels are important to you.

The better brightness didn't stand out much? Thx for the feedback.
I don't think you can find a better HDR monitor for that price.
What is the firmware version of your monitor? You can check in the main OSD screen (bottom right).

Why do people doing benchmarks ALWAYS use DLSS when testing raytracing in games?

Is playing a game at native 1080p with raytracing for example simply not possible or something? Are you required to use DLSS to use raytracing?

I guess you're fucked then.

>IIRC the adapter has issues as I recall?
There is, but you need to be stunningly incompetent to cause the 4080's 12V power connector to melt.
A 4080 drawing 350W of power is using less than 55% of the connector's total rated power draw (660W, 9.2A per pin minimum).
Server cards use the same connector with around 300~350W of power draw.

Because you simply can't run native memetracing without dropping below 60fps 95% of the time. Which nobody who isnt insane and retarded does. So you either turn it off entirely (95% of gamers), or you turn on DLSS.

Friendly reminder that the best lighting engine in a videogame that you actually -play-, that isn't a screenshot simulator like Cyberpunk, is Helldivers 2 on pc, which doesn't use UE/unity, or memetracing at all.

This isn't true. Some reviewers like TechPowerUp share RT @ native resolution benchmarks.

Higher levels of RT illumination, reflections, & shadow settings are resource-demanding.
NVIDIA introduced RT & DLSS as the RTX card's feature set for that reason.

Superstition. AMD brings out the big guns when Sony & Microsoft are buying their SoC.

Nintendo are bending the knee, because every AAA goyslop factory are outsourcing their lighting to the memetracing automation + pajeet code monkey farms.

no shill, because as i've been saying since the Njudean 2000 series came out, memetracing is an abomination designed to monopolize Njudeas place in the market, and it should not exist in that format. It was never a 'good' thing for gamers, and never intended to be.

Lighting engines should always have been left to the game engine coders and designers. Not a single gpu manufacturer trying to corner the market with a faux-innovative product. If UE+Unity+frostbite had introduced memetracing, sure, then you can dedicate die-space to it. But they didn't, memetracing has subtly nerfed every gpu released in the last 8 years, as die-space that COULD have been dedicated to rasterisation has been partly sacrificed for memetracing cores, not to mention the waste of R&D. And a reminder that it hasn't resulted in overall better looking games, outside of natural progression of graphical fidelity, which is independent of lighting engines.

What amazes me, is how easily you goys and shills are manipulated by such low-brow marketing. As i grew up, i naturally developed a degree of immunity and contempt for such forms of marketing, strange that you retards fall for it soo easily, and repeatedly. How many covid jabs did you get i wonder? 5?

>memetracing is an abomination designed to monopolize Njudeas place in the market
NVIDIA wasn't obsessed with gaming dominance during the development of Turing GPUs; they didn't give a fuck about one-upping AMD because they already won.
That was already the time when Jensen pivoted the company to an AI GPU development firm, against his board's wishes.

NVIDIA's workstation customers needed a GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing performance, that is the main reason why Turing GPUs had RT cores in them.
The GeForce team developed real-time ray tracing & DLSS to make use of the RT & Tensor cores in the Turing GPU.
That's better than completely disabling the RT & Tensor cores.

Simply increasing shading units is an even more inefficient use of die space, the 5090 is proof of this.
The 5090 has double the shading units compared to the 5080, but the 5090 is less than 50% faster.

My figure was based on 4K benchmarks.

>And it's not a full die GPU like the 5080 is.
Whether the 5090's using a cut or a fully-enabled die is irrelevant to my point.
It was comparing the performance gain from having 10752 shader units (5080) to 21760 (5090).

It might improve a bit if you try to not sit one foot away from a screen. That's staring into the light tier. Do you not wear any corrective lenses?

>am i going to actually notice a difference
Probably. You're placing your face close to the screen because you can't focus on it from further away, but this means that once you are actually in range to focus you can definitely see the individual pixels of a 1080p screen. 1440p @ 27" is the point where the pixels start to disappear. 4k at that screen size would require you to jam your eye into it to see the dots.

Closed top is function. It prevents dust and accidental spills from falling in and you can put stuff on it. Thermal benefits from tops exhaust are marginal at best unless there's a radiator there, front-to-back airflow always does the heavy lifting in a conventional case.

What 2TB SATA SSD do you recommend for backup purposes? My mainboard natively supports 2 M.2 NVME SSDs, which are in use. I want to have a weekly script running backup up my profile and some things to a SSD. I've found WD Blue (rather shitty TBF), Crucial and PNY still have consumer grade SSDs. There are WD Reds (for NAS), which only cost a few bucks more and have much better TBF and reliability but I've read they have disabled error correction by default and are not recommended for non-raid, desktop use.
TLDR. I need a non-raid, 2TB SATA SSD as an internal backup drive. Reliability is more important than speed.

Why not a 2.5 HDD? It's gonna be much cheaper and you won't hear it if it only spins up during your weekly backups.
You don't need really NAS-grade drives if they don't run 24/7. That drive is gonna undergo very little stress, reliability shouldn't be a too much of a concern as long as you don't receive a faulty unit.
If you're settled on an SSD, I'd look at Crucial, Samsung or SanDisk/WD since they manufacture their own chips.

Jensen's a self-made man; his relatives in Washington state accidentally sent Jensen to a reform school in Kentucky because the uncle thought it was a prestigious boarding school (he took classes at a nearby public school because he wasn't a troublemaker).
>Every student smoked, and I think I was the only boy at the school without a pocketknife
>His roommate was illiterate; in exchange for teaching him to read, Huang said, โ€œhe taught me how to bench-press. I ended up doing a hundred pushups every night before bed.โ€
That's probably where Jensen learned how to become a bully.

CUDA was also a very risky bet that almost took NVIDIA out of business.

NVIDIA demonstrated an interactive (I believe this is real-time) Ray Tracing demo at SIGGRAPH 2008.
Researchers were already utilizing RT on NVIDIA GPUs without Tensor or RT cores.
It isn't something developed to kill Radeon GPUs, people at NVIDIA considered Intel to be their major threat during the 2000s.

https://hothardware.com/news/nvidia-shows-interactive-ray-tracing-on-gpus
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/nvision08-IRT/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IC2NIogWR4

It's the slow rate of growth of the PC gaming market that convinced Jensen & the people at NVIDIA to pivot to programmer shaders (CUDA) in the 2000s and AI in 2013.

You'd probably have to settle with a 9060 XT 16GB.
You're not going to get 144 FPS playing Oblivion: Remastered @ 1440p because the game's a technical mess.

Crucial T500 is a decent storage drive with DRAM.

Not sure why you picked a 24" 1440p secondary monitor.
Good colors, usable sRGB emulation setting, mediocre contrast. It doesn't have great response times.

My wife has an 8th gen i3 build that needs replacing. I want to be able to drop in a new processor at am5 eol when they get cheap and a new gpu and another 32gb of ram. This is what I did on mine with AM4 but from a 3600 to a 5700x, a 9070xt, and 16gb more ram. I want to get a 9800x3d or similar when it is under $200 and a 6070ti or similar to just keep this going well for ~8 years. As is this will be hugely better than her 8th gen i3/6600. Then she can play sims 4 and overcooked 2 and stardew valley.

The larger L1 and L2 cache in GeForce GPUs allows the chip to store more data that is likely to be requested very soon.
Higher level of cache, like L3, takes more time and energy to access, and it gets worse when the GPU is requesting data that is stored in the VRAM, system memory, or storage (SSD/HDD).
Radeon GPUs have less L1 & L2 cache, so their GPU is going to need to access the VRAM more often.
This is why Resizable Bar benefits Radeon cards more than GeForce; it's the GPU architectural difference.

Not saying which design is better or worse, just explaining the differences.
SRAM takes up a significant area of the GPU die, so AMD's decided to reduce the reliance on L1/L2 cache.

finally looking to replace my ancient 1050

CPU: 5700G (build was during gpu shortage)
Chipset: B550

I know I'm stuck at PCI-E 3 on the 5700G unless I swap it out.

Thinking about the 3060 12GB.

Mostly play single-player old games (2005-2015), VRChat, and dabble with local AI.

Is AMD still bad for VR?
Are the workarounds for AI (ROCm) that bad?

I have a 3060 12gb and went to a 5070ti and it is much better for vr. Games that ran like shit are all smooth now. The 3060 12gb will play alyx for you, in fact my mobile 3060 6gb can which is โ‰ˆ2060 but that game is well optimized. Most vr games ran like shit on my 3060

Iโ€™m having some troubles with my new build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vqcfLc
DRAM and BOOT led lit up on the mobo; fans and pump are running and RGB is lit. Currently the GPU isnโ€™t installed to allow access to the CMOS battery but I tried previously with it on. I previously had G. Skill F5-6000J3040F16GX2-TZ5RK RAM and had the same issue as now. As they werenโ€™t on the revision 1.2 list of QVL RAM for my mobo, I swapped them for the Corsair ones which are on the QVL.
Here's what I did so far:
>Clear CMOS and Qflash the card
>Tried different slots with a single stick of RAM
>Reseat the CPU and untighten the CPU cooler a bit
>Checked the cables connections to the mobo and PSU
Itโ€™s currently turned on with two sticks in the A2/B2 slots. Itโ€™s been on for about an hour as Iโ€™ve read that DDR5 can take quite some time to train.

Most AIOs allow people to set custom pump speeds, the same can be said for the fan noise.
Dual tower air coolers reached their marketable performance peak (D-15 G2 being about 3ยฐC better than G1).
That's why Noctua is designing an AIO.

if I was gonna get a new mobo I would just build a completely new modern computer. Which I'm probably gonna do now.

The idea was to max out my mobo (https://www.newegg.com/asus-p8b75-v-atx-intel-motherboard-intel-b75-lga-1155/p/N82E16813131835) - I already have an i5-3570k which is only slightly worse than a i7-3770k (best in slot for LGA 1155), and 24 GB RAM (don't ask)

Anyways, if/when I build a new PC I'll put the 1080 in that, put the 660 back in this and let my daugher play Roblox on it

What about a 2080ti? That's about the same price in the United States and would be faster/similar to a 3070ti + you wont' be cucked by a lack of memory. If it's not a blower card you could push a 2080ti pretty high with overclocking, outside of like the first batch I remember Turing being pretty reliable
If I was trying to buy budget my list would go :
2070/super
2080ti
3080
And after that a new 5060ti or 5070

Only about month ago there were bios updates for AM5 MBs that improved the memory for 4 sticks configurations. Before that getting 256GB was probably impossible in most cases, and other 4 stick configs were also hard to run.
You can check if both kits have the same dies, one might be Hynix-A and other Hynix-M for example, this might cause trouble. Other than that there is not much you can do, you can sell both kits and buy a single kit of 4 sticks, they should work fine.

>I don't think so, it's people with unstable manual OCs blaming the platform.
Jofoos claims the ceiling for the amdip has risen, for amdips you are now talking about dipping for 500-600 fps in esports down to 300-350 fps
people below 500hz esports levels most likely won't be affected by the dip, as it's getting harder and harder to detect, aka not for casuals
however this goes against his other claims when he was benchmarking that jedi game or whatever and said it was amdippin' at like 80fps when it was loading in assets or some shit
also another point of contention is his own stats even showed 9800x3d winning in lows and averages in general too, but his new spin off last time was that intel was still faster in asset loading and recovering from the so called dip, it takes longer for the x3d to stabilize back up but intel has lower fps but loads in assets or some shit?
since there has not been any fresh schizo content regarding the dip for like months or year(s) now nobody knows

tldr buy a 9800x3d and a 14900k system and test it yourself to find out TheTruthโ„ข

https://www.techpowerup.com/339012/samsung-and-sk-hynix-delay-ddr4-memory-phase-out-amidst-unexpected-demand
>Late last month, we reported an unexpected surge in DDR4 DRAM chip spot-pricing, just as leading memory chipmakers in Taiwan and South Korea announced plans to phase out the standard, leaving behind residual inventories to deal with leftover demand. It turns out that the nearly 1 decade-long market presence of the DDR4 standard, beginning with the 2013 6th Gen Intel Core "Skylake" processor, and continuing on until 14th Gen Core "Raptor Lake Refresh," along with AMD Ryzen Socket AM4 along the way, meant that there are simply too many devices out there with DDR4 memory and users looking for upgrades.
>Digitimes now reports that South Korean memory chipmakers such as SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, have put on hold their phase-out plans for DDR4 chips, and may continue supply until they see spot pricing sufficiently falling behind that of DDR5
DDR4 is the Windows XP of Memory Standards.

I'm not a professional, but if I was, I would be requesting and using an OLED. The color accuracy, gamut/volume, and lack of off-axis gamma/chroam shift on top of native 10-bit processing would be essential if I were doing any sort of photo/video grading work. Plus when it burns out you just depreciate it as a tax benefit for the business. I heard many broadcast industry folks were upset when Sony replaced their flagship TRIMASTER EL OLEDs (that were true-RGB) with their current dual-layer LCDs a long while back.

Someone wrote this in the comments
>the thinking behind the 6K resolution is so that you can use it at 200% scaling, which results in 3008 x 1692, that turns out to be ~108 PPI, which is almost the same as a 27" at 2560x1440 (108.8 PPI) (but with much better clarity obviously).
>So that 200% fits Mac users, since they need exact scaling. And then anyone else who wants more stuff on their screen (running Windows I guess), can use it with lower scaling like 175% or even 150%.
>For example at 150% scaling, this will result in 4011 x 2256 at ~144PPI, which is a tiny bit more density than a 31.5" at 4K (UHD) at 100% (140 PPI)
Which makes sense I guess. Still likely using FRC to fake 10-bit + 60Hz due to bandwidth constraints, we really need HDMI 2.2 (96 Gbps) or GPMI (192 Gbps) adoption like yesterday.

I've actually been looking into Asus Proart monitors as something for both color sensitive photo work and gaming, since the PA27UCGE supports both 3D luts, 100% DCIP3 and 98% adobe RGB, and has 165hz and a good response time (though in gray-to-gray, so I'm not sure exactly how good it is), but I can't even find out if the damn thing is out yet, much less find detailed reviews of it

Its crazy how slow they are to roll these out higher speed standards when 4k high refresh rate monitors/TVs have been around for a while.

Hey friends, I'm looking for any suggestions on upgrading my toaster (or building a new rig would be the most logical choice, huh). I don't mind picking up used parts so suggestions on reliable/tolerable places to find them would be great (ebay?).
I do not video edit nor play current AAA games so I'm looking to stay on win7 and 1080p 60fps fine with me. I just want to build a decent rig and futureproof it for another long while like this current rig has lasted me.
Also any advice on storage? ATM I use a stupid small SSD for my OS and a 3TB external for storage (manga anime movies games the usual). The external has lasted a surprising long time. I figure I'll probably be okay grabbing a cheap 1TB SSD for OS and whatever games I'm currently playing, that sort of thing.
I am an extremely poor person so the cheaper the better. I figure with some used parts I could probably build something decent for <=$750. I already have monitors/keyboard/mouse. Most expensive items would be what, storage/CPU/GPU? Maybe the logistics of a new case, maybe a new mobo. Advice on what to buy new and used would be cool too. Just thinking out loud.

>tl;dr help me build a windows 7 60fps 1080p 4chan browsing device

you could buy some cheap laptop

A cheap system today made from new parts that has longevity would be
am5 mobo, 32gb ddr5 (important for chrome tabs)
9600x type cpu with thermalright cooler
750w psu
lian li cases are cheap?
5060 type gpu
2tb nvme

Im not sure what you can cheap out on beyond that you dont regret later and then start spending extra money.
Cheaper gpus are just shittier, less energy efficient, less future games support.
Less storage gets annoying when you need it as media sizes get larger and larger.
Less cpu doesnt save you that much and system would be less response.
Less ram is annoying if you start needing more later when you browse on chrome.
You also want a relatively decent case since a good airflow and such helps with noise and perf.

as for gpu, new b580 or try your luck with used 3000 series
both of these should leave you with around 250 for everything else which will be tight, 100 bucks case, ~50 on psu, ~50 on mobo, spare change on ssd
ask chatgpt for mobo options and check whatever is available

right so just get 2R
high-speed dual-rank DDR4 isn't a problem, but high-speed dual-rank DDR5 is
so you're effectively forced into single-rank for DDR5 and DDR4 is so cheap that you have no reason to go for single-rank

You'll want a B450 or an X470 motherboard, which will have Windows 7 drivers and also have BIOS Flash option that will allow you to update the BIOS without CPU installed.
A B450 Tomahawk motherboard can have its BIOS updated to the latest beta version to support CPUs like the 5700X, 5700X3D, or 5800X3D.

Here is a sample build without the video card, you need to buy a video card that has Windows 7 driver support.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fKgwb2

You will need a different motherboard if you plan to get the 5700X3D, but it's probably out of your budget and overkill.

Most ddr4 systems run 1R because of prebuilts cheaping out and they're effectively gimped all their life. And going 2R for performance reasons means having to pay for more capacity you don't need. Not to mention most sunset stage ddr4 has such high capacity that you can end up with 2x16gb kits that are 1R which perform badly.
And 2R ddr5 works perfectly if you stick to a single dual rank stick per 64bit channel

on AMD it works fine since you're gonna stick to 6000-6400 anyway, there's only one platform where you really have a choice
but i promise if AMD had released zen 4 and zen 5 for AM4 most people would have gone with that and it would have performed just as well as AM5 (B550/X570 boards were overspecced for zen 3)

>i'd only consider intel cpus to be true ddr5 capable cpus
so you have a 14900K
hypothetical application/gaming workload on all cores (not y-cruncher)

P-cores:
5.5 GHz = 5500000000 cycles/s
5500000000*2.5 IPC = 13750000000 instr/s
let's say 10% of instructions are loads or stores, and the average load size is 4 bytes
13750000000*0.1*4 = 5500000000 b/s = 5 gb/s

E-cores:
4.5 GHz = 4500000000 cycles/s
4500000000*1.5 IPC = 6750000000 instr/s
6750000000*0.1*4 = 2700000000 b/s = 2.5 gb/s

5*8+2.5*16 = 80 gb/s

that's hitting the limit of DDR4, but that's also assuming a 0% cache hitrate
if we have a 50% cache hitrate we only need 40 gb/s, which can easily be sustained by DDR4-3200

now obviously this is just simplified napkin math but i hope it gives you some understanding on why DDR5 is very rarely beneficial
zen 6 or nova lake can change that for sure, but it's not like you're gonna be able to test it yourself anyway
