i get good morning sir'd at least 3 times a week from Pajeet who still asks me basic questions that he should have learned on his own a year ago.

i can tell he just BS his way through everything, either agreeing and restating what his the other senior says, or "i will schedule a meeting" to figure it out if he doesn't know. he is literally just getting paid 150k to bother people all day.

when will my white management notice he is a dipshit and fire him? its been 2 years.

i want to take over his job and salary.

Meeting team members at a different site, so culture trip I guess. It'll be booked in advance with flights and hotel, I can't just fake sick. The worst is I'll be the one having to create and lead the meetings with no agenda. Kind of a precarious situation, but I guess it's to my advantage if they want to waste money on me thinking it's an investment.

>Meeting team members at a different site, so culture trip I guess
I wouldn’t consider that culture, culture to what I’m referring to are those “hey let’s all go to some bum fuck country to bond and discover food to get to know each other better.” Meeting team members does classify as necessary because that’s usually a recommendation from operations managers or HR (even sometimes the bosses themselves). Don’t know what to tell ya, but I don’t think you should skip it unless it’s in a unsafe area you’re going to. Last thing you need is to be put on a company’s shit list and I know how insufferable and petty people in companies can be.

it's not really "work hard" for me. I'm just autistic and treat my job as a hobby, which is why I'm good at it. But if I don't get any recognition for it long term I obviously don't plan to stay. I can't cope with being stuck in the same place for prolonged periods, feels like I'm getting nowhere in my life

nta, I can relate. I have an autistic obsession to git gud at whatever I'm doing and I get frustrated when I'm forced to fuck ass around with asinine faggotry. The majority of the jobs I've left is because on some level I had felt the asinine faggotry was impeding my desire to git gud. The reason why I had wanted to git gud is so I'm able to open my own business and run the show myself. However upon reflection, almost all of the companies I've worked for had a codebase that was held together by what I'd consider slightly above thoughts & prayers™. I should've been running my own show years ago had I known just how low the bar is for software to make money. I'm a decent dev, so I could probably do the work of the 3 monkey's they usually pay to write this shit. So yeah, making a living on my own terms is a way more fulfilling objective to me than navigating a corporate hellscape. You might have a similar story yourself.

In this economy starting a business is really scary tbqh
And my current best business idea is B2C which is doubleplus scary since the "we use AI" meme doesn't work as well on consoomers anymore (if at all)
And starting a business alone is additionally scary. I do have a friend I could do it with, but I'm too much of a pussy to quit my job until the business is running *really* well.

Currently my plan is to round the company, get a decent amount of ownership say 30% or so, and then work behind the scenes while working full time at my company. If the business doesn't take off oh well too bad, if it does I will just quit to focus on it full time
>why not just work both at the same time

At that point you're just programming like the rest of us. There is huge upside in having something that can narrow in your misery and bounce ideas from instead of desperately praying stackoverflow question has someone who solved this problem and not 3 people saying they have the same problem, but you still need the skillset.

Going full time since I am laid off but have a big enough bag to not work for a year. Figure a full time masters looks better than a straight gap or taking some shit tier job post fagman/mag7 which apparently I have been cut out of but at least I made a bag.

Yeah without that crypto money they had nothing left to invest into the rest of there product lines. AMD notably was the first to win in crypto before it shifted to Invidia what resulted was they had enough extra money for R&D to dump into CPU's that can crush Intel on the server market. Xeon is great but having more cores like Eypc allowed for massive consolidation of hardware, especially since virtualization was a mature tech back then but with ass loads of cores available it made a massive difference.

Other factors too with TSMC vs Intel in the background, chiplet designs and the gamble that is now paying off with 3D stacking.

Intel also lost apple so that is a massive blow to their sales.

An interesting side effect of this I've noticed is insane title bloat.
I've seen companies where the entire team consists SOLELY out of senior and staff devs with 1-2 regular devs lost in the sauce somewhere. And all of these senior and staff devs aside from a few who have extra responsibilities do normal dev work lmfao

Titles used to mean something, so did pay raises. Now we can dangle a title for you to stay for a measly 10k extra for a job that is basically 3 jobs and would 5x your pay if we actually had to pay you its market rate. What's worse is that you are not anymore employable than the janitor with these fancy titles.

The salaries are so ridiculously hilarious
Tech reached sports tier clownworld where theres a belief that one player will magically change the team, so he MUST be worth dozens of millions. Sure there's a secondary reason where it's a prestige thing and brings in ratings for the team and so on, but this literally doesn't apply to (tech) companies like it does for sports teams.

Same here.
Also upper management is literally pic related. They are like a bunch of hipsters at a modern art expo. They know jack shit, and most likely know the rest know jack shit but they just keep rubbing each other's dick.
I've had meetings with external teams and the amount of buzzword salad spouting was insane.
Also from time to time they find an "expert" on some subject and act as he's the second coming of Christ.
Last one is the AI expert, who told us to stop using Copilot because it is "obsolete". I told him to explain me that reasoning while doing an in depth analysis of Copilot and the guy went pale.

I managed to that in my specialty at the company, I would say most people that work in that specific field recognise how good and valuable I am. The problem is that specific field is not really extensible so it's basically completely shut off from the rest of the company, and all anyone else including upper management cares about is that we get shit done and not how or why.
The second problem is that I'm not at the top of the pyramid (which actually does interact with upper management) in my field, and while this top really appreciates me they obviously have no plans of just handing me over that position.

What do? How do I escape this reputational purgatory?

You just inject yourself into work that will help you succeed. Its not easy, because it means you have to find a problem that needs to be solved on your own (as opposed to pulling in tickets on a jira board and being quick), but this is kind of what separates highly paid engineers from the lower jr./Sr. Monkeys at the major corposlop jobs

I think you don't get it, I literally can't. Anything I could've been injecting myself into with my credentials and skills, I already did. Bigger salary, 10 more vacation days, but the only downside is I won't code for the first 6 months, but instead work with some garbage software similar to scratch. My current company is willing to up 80% of the offer for me to stay, but I guess staying means no more raises after this. And the new position is fullstack, my current one is frontend only.

Its true up to a point. I left AWS at $270k and was an SDE II for CRWD at $350k at “Senior Systems Engineer” which turned into about $800k a year for two years before getting laid off due to appreciation. I don’t care if you believe me. However, I did literally nothing of value at CRWD for 2 years and now apparently I am unable to can get back into the top tier after failing about 7 interviews and 3 onsites at Anduril, Apple, Nvidia so my career is basically over now after 3 months of unemployment. I am just taking a sabbatical and going full time in OMSCS which I was going to do part time due to skill atrophy at CRWD.

I live in HCOL for family reasons (I would move but not possible). 5% yoy at $1M would cover my rent. I have a wife and kid. I am at coast fire and would happily do basically whatever for $80k but apparently nothing even gets that besides tech. I am considering trying to bribe my way into the elevator tech union somehow. That said I truly could not tell you how many moronic titles like "tribe leader", "journey expert" and "wellness specialist" exist between me and him, all I know is that the first all-staff email being a micro-management directive from a man who should have bigger fish to fry is a bad start.

We don't have loyalty checks yet but we do have a 50% in office requirement that's so badly thought out that a retard with a calculator would know that it's cost more days in office by way of sick people coming in than it has saved any.

Linkedin is a data harvesting operation.
Whatever questions you answered have already gone directly into a database that gets sold to companies as “talent packages” and “workforce reports”
