Dolphin

Dolphin
>doesn't have smart folders
You can have search "shortcuts", you search what you want add that to the "places" bar, not quite the same but close enough.
>doesn't have miller columns
Dolphin removed that, don't know why, they might be open to re-add it if enough people is interested or contribute to it but I don't know their stance on this feature.
>doesn't remember icon size and scroll position per folder
Dolphin.

So dolphin does all that except miller columns that were removed, and smart folders to some extent.

otoh
>Finder does't have a way to put folders on top/bottom on folders that are not alphabetically sorted.
>Finder does't have filter feature (That's a great dolphin feature)
>Finder does't have a way to open files with enter, cmd + O is quite the retarded shortcut, I open files more often that I've to rename them (I always use PathFinder when using macOS and this is one of the reasons)
>Finder does't have split view
>Finder does't have file ratings

And lets better not talk about plugins, dolphin has some awesome plugins like vcs integration, it wont surprise me if there's a smart folders like plugin out there.

It's also quite easy to add context menu entries that depends of the file, I got some useful scripts added for videos and images.

I could add more stuff finder lacks but I would need to reboot into macOS to take a look cause I haven't booted into it for a year and I was using pathfinder most of the time anyways.

I can't even remember if finder was the one that has no "cut" option.

This thread is really weird, because the file managers are the thing that all Linux DEs really do well, while Macs Finder is some crippled toy bullshit you can barely do anything with and Windows Explorer just recently discovered Tabs.

ripgrep-all does do pdf as well.
And also pdfs inside zip files.
Mac Finder can't do that.
And Dolphin uses ripgrep-all when you enter something into the search box.
So by your own standard, Mac Finder is decades behind, because it cant even do zip files. You are correct, zip files should be simple to search though, yet the Apple baby garbage can't do this.

As i sad, Finder is complete and utter garbage that nobody seriously would ever think is good. Doesn't matter how blinded you are. And Windows Explorer barely does Tabs.
Which really only leaves various Linux file managers as the only decent ones.

bro, that is WORSE.
File indexing is bad. It is the one thing i immediately turn off on every machine if i can, doesn't matter what OS. Having a service suddenly start to index and wade through the contents of files, is not a nice thing to have.
You are jerking off to Apples copy of KDEs balloo or GNOMEs tracker miner. Nobody wants this crap, that's why nobody itt even considered to mention those background indexing services.

No, it is a file indexing service running in the background building a database.
And that is a bad thing! Why the fuck would i want that?
Linux has that as well, IF you want that, which i definitely DO NOT.
Even the Apple fanboys i know admit that Apples Finder is inferior to all the competition. You really really picked the absolute worst subject for your shill thread, you idiot.

Do you have the object to turn your background resource-waste indexing off?
If you do it, can you then still search?
And again: It can't even search through zip files. So you let it waste your resources, just to have worse results.

It absolutely does.
https://github.com/phiresky/ripgrep-all
This is what it uses in the background.
So if you have a movie and you search for words that someone says within that movie that has subtitles, it will find it.

Meanwhile Apples Finder can't even do a zip file. Apples Finder is by far the worst file manager there is.

you waste resources every time you search something. if you have 100k files. every time you search something you open and close 100k files one by one. if you previously indexed all 100k files in a db a simple search query can find what you want without touching all 100k files every time.

The TV character says "where do you think you are?"
It's meant to imply that whatever shocking thing is being pointed out is routine. A holdover from the older days of the internet when people were actually shocked by sick shit. It's only used by pedos now whenever someone reacts negatively to their pedo implications.
