Behold, the superior mouse and keyboard interface. The fact that USBslop was allowed to replace everything is a crime against personal computing. Sometimes standards should be left alone.

>The PS/2 interface provides no restriction on key rollover.
>The USB HID keyboard interface requires that it explicitly handle key rollover, with the full HID keyboard class supporting n-key rollover. However, the USB boot keyboard class (designed to allow the BIOS to easily provide a keyboard in the absence of OS USB HID support) only allows 6-key rollover. Some keyboard peripherals support only the latter class, and some OSes may fail to switch to using the full HID keyboard class with a device after boot.

I can't find any motherboards with this connector on a modern AMD socket for less than like 400 dollars. They finally ran out of these little shits and now they're being reserved solely for enthusiast grognard tier boards.

It's over

I never had problems with that, they always had a slight flat edge on the top so you know the orientation by feel. USBs will ALWAYS have the "lol wrong flipside" quantum mechanic at play, no matter what you do.

The real issue with USB is it requires absolutely perfect alignment or it will not go in and it has zero self centering either. Other ports give you some tactile feedback, but USB gives you nothing, so you are fumbling around with no idea where the plug is in relation to the port. A lot of people center in on USBs symmetrical nature as the main issue with USB, but really the alignment issue is the main problem, and the symmetry just makes it worse.

That still leaves more keys than you can comfortably press with a single had at the same time. Like I said it's only a problem if specific combinations of keys don't work, like if you hold shift for sprint, w/a to run diagonally and then try to hit space to jump but it won't register. Some keyboards are worse than others in that regard.

>usb = nigger
Truly. USB keyboards have given me so many problems I basically refuse to buy or use one at this point.
>can't enter BIOS half the time
>have to replug it when it stops working after waking
>sometimes not even replugging helps, have to power cycle entire system
>wireless receiver lagging to fuck at random times
>cable detaches itself because it's a feature
Finally got back on a PS/2 keyboard and couldn't be happier - shit just fucking w o r k s . Never going back to USB if I can help it.

When the CPU decides polling is unprioritized then it will be no matter the max speed. Meanwhile PS/2 will interrupt CPU and CPU must handle it.

funny story today
i couldn't upgrade my windows 10 installation without uninstalling all drivers because apparently the drivers cause a BSOD when installing windows 11 by trying to write to ROM
after i uninstalled alll my drivers I fucking forgot to reinstall the input ones before restarting (but i remembered gpu drivers lmao), so i had to drive to 3 different thrift stores to find a ps/2 keyboard so i could restart the installation process. it only cost 3 bucks
somehow it fucking worked (thanks chatgpt)
