Daily reminders:

1. Only obtain hardware and software from trustworthy sources
2. Ensure that you install security updates when they're released
3. If your device or software is no longer receiving security updates, replace your device or software, unless your device is being used in a context where security is not so important (e.g. air gapped device)

I use Signal, I think it's good. I'm not going to use Telegram myself. I've read articles saying that Russian authorities might have access to Telegram messages. So fuck that.
>If Signal is so much safer and private, how come there are no news of criminal using it?
Dunno. Some criminals might do. I'm not massively familiar with what criminals use.
>If Telegram is so bad, why do so many criminals use it?
Telegram and Russia both seem to be entities that are willing to turn a blind eye to criminality. So maybe that's why criminals are attracted to Telegram.

What's good? I learned recently that despite the swiss potentially going fairly big in the retard sector recently, Geneva and other french cantons are still super against it.
http://web.archive.org/web/20250613175223/https://www.techradar.com/vpn/vpn-privacy-security/a-war-against-online-anonymity-why-switzerland-wants-to-change-its-surveillance-law-and-whats-at-stake
So maybe it won't pass the absolute worse shit from it especially since tech companies such as Proton are cutting that investment money now.

Deep /cyb/ Dominator Award-winning Llama anon, a.k.a. compilier anon, a.k.a. DJ Cygnus, has been awol for a while. Last I remember, he was busy with studies and other things. IIRC, he had been working on the script to grab the threads+images, but I can't remember if his intent was to publish an entire archive, as much as to create the script that would allow one to create thier own archive, which makes more sense. He did post several scripts that allowed us to automate D/L'ing RaspberryPi Mag + Hackspace Mag (now part of RPi Mag). Ironically, current releases of RaspberryPi OS include an application callled, 'Bookshelf' which alllows one to D/L RPi Mag, including back issues, in a nice GUI that displays all the magazine covers.

The guide can be found here:
https://files.catbox.moe/60eb4l.md

you can also find a copy in github
https://github.com/alabamasystem/anix.git

>why are you doing this
I can confirm various attempts of intrusive elements trying to compromise my domestic private network.
In response to this unprovoked aggression I have been forced to act at my best operational capacity.

>how this effort helps
By facilitating the only DoD sanctioned Nixos hardening guide to anon, it is possible I can help others in the same situation as me, implementing this checklist it is possible to reduce the risk surface for Nixos systems

>why ANIX
ANIX STIG guide it's one of its kind as far my research goes. It provides clear well-defined step by step procedure to configure a Nixos system unit

If you know of any STIG worth reading I would be very grateful if you could share it.

the only issue with the script is that ghost posts get saved and they fuck up the toml [] format but thats an easy fix and only affects few thread dumps

Hey fren! Hope all is well with you and Miss Cuddlepuff and the other flea bag.
Hope you get some downtime soon and make some more music.
=============================================================
Happy Schizo Sunday!
Schizos are often ridiculed and shunned by society at large, but in fact, they are often misunderstood harbingers of the future.
Towit, I present the following threads:
>>>>/pol/512090550
>>>>/pol/512105535

20-30 years ago people laughed at those who saw these things coming, but they're not laughing so much anymore. Schizos don't always get every detail right, and often have trouble articulating thier thoughts, but they can 'see' patterns in deep chaos that ordinary people cannot, and there is always a kernel of truth buried in what they say. One only need set aside skepticism, and search for the merit in any stated claims, rather than dismiss them outright - usually to your own peril.

The UK pushes the onlilne safety act since they failed to protect children offline. I normally don't go for the conspiracy angle first, since stupidity goes a longer way to explain the iolls of the world rather than sheer evil, but in this case the leading members of the chattering classes want to deflect focus away from destroyed children and postmastrs that killed themselves, the two worst cases of gross miscarriage of justice since the war.
What really disappoints me is that this works.

The blood and innocence of children seems to be the most prized commodity of the most powerful and the most perverted. It is heartbreaking to say the very, very least. I believe all these new laws are only to tighten the surveillence rope. There are certain videos I'd like to watch on YT that have to do with war crimes that are age restricted, while others that are clearly softcore porn can be watch without restriction. I believe this is just another way to track and ID who's watching what.

I hate to say it but, Britain is going to have to have a violent revolution and hang all it's leaders if it hopes to salvage what remains of it's culture, along with Spain and Germany, among others. America is cooked tho - always has been.

>Britain is going to have to have a violent revolution
That is true. It is also a major state secret.
It is a little bit like during the cold war when a dude was standing on Moscow's Red Square and shouted Stalin was an idiot!! He got 1 year for the insult and 20 years for revealing state secrets.

On a more serious note, I think much of what we see in the world, including creeping censorship and surveillance, fit well in the the late stages of the Iron Law of the Oligarchy. The Oxbridge brigade is the elite in the UK and consequently will never see the insides of a prison, no matter how serious their failures. And the failures are so gigantic that the full scope of tehse are secret. If you are in doubt, just try to find out just how many victims there were in the grooming scandal, or if it is truly over.

I doubt nothing, fren. The marksists, the remphanites and globohomo with the help of the dumb, ignorent US golem have killed off any remaining rulers who might have wanted to genuinely care for thier people.
Heinlein got close to the final solution when he wrote (I'm para-quoting here):
>"...violence...The supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived.โ€

Heinlein was referring to voting, which is complete bullshit.
Hitler was closer, and should have written:
"Violence is the supreme authority from which all other authorities are derived."
This is absolute truth.

>It really does make you wonder where all that punk imagery britain had gotten over the late 20th century went. It really didn't churn out much of anything of note.
After the Industrial Revolution, stagnation hit Britain hard. It was not as if they didn't have the potential for more, rather the elite failed to understand the potentials and cared even less. That is why Wikipedia spends more words on Arnold Weinstock's horses then his life as one of the leading captains of industry in the UK. Thatcher hated his guts but he and people like him were all there were, so the UK had no future in high tech or production and she went instead for the financial/legal industry. Consequently a huge fraction of workers lost their jobs and became unemployable. Arm stayed on for a while but is now sold off.

You also had movements such as the mods, and like the punks it all became food for the fashion industry. It is hilarious in a sad way.

>I guess this question can be saved for /his/.

https://it.slashdot.org/story/25/08/04/1429251/microsoft-used-china-based-engineers-to-support-product-recently-hacked-by-china
>Microsoft announced last month that Chinese state-sponsored hackers exploited vulnerabilities in SharePoint to breach hundreds of companies and government agencies, including the National Nuclear Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security. The company omitted that SharePoint support is handled by China-based engineers who have maintained the software for years.
>ProPublica reviewed screenshots of Microsoft's internal systems showing China-based employees recently fixing bugs for SharePoint "OnPrem," the version targeted in the attacks. Microsoft told the publication that the China-based team operates under U.S. supervision and the company is relocating this work.

The second group gets the same dose of psilocybin, but only after being anaesthetized with propofol. And the third group gets the propofol anaesthesia but no hallucinogen, only a placebo. That gives you a lot more blinding than is usually possible in psychedelic trials.

https://lwn.net/Articles/1032193/
>Linuxiac reports that another malicious package has been uploaded to the Arch User Repository (AUR). This time around the package was google-chrome-stable, which installed a remote-access trojan along with Google Chrome.
>>The good newsโ€”if you can call it thatโ€”is that the google-chrome-stable package was available on the AUR only for a few hours before the malware hidden inside was discovered. Still, it did get a few upvotes, which suggests at least some users ended up installing it.
>The Arch Linux project had to warn users about a similar attack less than a month ago when a user uploaded three browser packages that also installed a malicious script identified as a remote-access trojan.

We have come a long, lomg way:
>Happy Birthday 6502
https://hackaday.com/2025/08/04/happy-birthday-6502/
>The story of the 6502โ€™s conception is a fascinating tale of how the giants of the early mocroprocessor industry set about grappling with these new machines. In the earlier half of the 1970s, Chuck Peddle worked for Motorola, whose 6800 microprocessor reached the market in 1974. The 6800 was for its time complex, expensive, and difficult to manufacture, and Peddleโ€™s response to this was a far simpler device with a slimmed-down instruction set that his contact with customers had convinced him the market was looking for: the 6502.

It was good enough for 3D space video games and spreadsheets. 50 years later, computers have 1000 times faster clock frequencies, have 8 times the width and about 1 million times more memory. And yet modern computers don't feel faster.

Do we have a good list of open source hardware? Seems to me there's little discussion about OSH because the learning curve involved in getting said hardware up and running is steep and/or expensive. I wish I had programming chops just to be able to actively participate in /diy/'s /mcg/ threads. I tinkered with Arduinos and ESP xx devices, but never could learn a programming language. There are soo many awesome devices being produced that can be used to make really awesome gadgets, but all require advanced programming knowledge, worse things are changing so rapidly, it's hard to keep up.. I hate being a brianlet. I've posted about some really interesting modules I've seen, but I never get (you)s about them.

The closest thing we have to the FSF is the OSHWA they even certify some projects(https://certification.oshwa.org/list.html). But you can always go to sites like Hack a Day,KiCAD and Make to get projects.

The thing is since it's something very old, ham radio is older than probably everyone here, people are not as used to compile things, unless it's old electronics magazines.

Still electronics is "better" than programing in the regard that a 40 old circuit, like those hundreds of 555 projects can be pretty much replicated with few changes besides the chip numbers.

It'll be interesting to see if 'vibe coding' ever meets FPGA desigh and gets to a point where plebs like me can simply ask an AI to design a circuit/system that can do x, y, and z using a given chip architecture and have it write the software to control it all. I'm sure that's in the works, but I won't live long enuff to see it in the hands of hobbiests.

I hear that some use AI for internal designs but I am not sure how far it goes.
For CPU design there seems to be some art involved too, how to balance a rich instruction set with a limited instruction bitwidth budget, and then avoid bloat. Then there is the software to be written too.
SUBLEQ is as sinple as it gets and DawnOS is powered by a SUBLEQ virtual processor. Less extreme is the 6502 processor that had a 50 year anniversary yesterday, and is still in production.

It sits inside his brainโ€™s blood vessels and picks up his motor intention. Those signals get sent wirelessly to an external decoder, which then tells the iPad what to do. Good point. You probably remember that article about how scientists are developing tech that allows the recording of thoughts and in another, dreams. Dream recording reminds me of that 2001 CGI film , 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within'. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's a must-watch masterpiece. It gets a solid 5 out of 5 slop buckets from me.
Here's a short scene:
For anyone who decides to watch it, be sure to DL the highest rez rip you can find and the visuals are stunning, especially when you consider that the film was *released* in 2001. I have the 2 DVD box set, and the second CD contains lots behind the scenes footage, and some pre-production stuff that's really mind-blowing. Here's some of that:
Watch the film FIRST, tho, so it doesn't spoil it for you.

Privacy does not exist. If you're making make calls over wifi, then the voice data is using the encryption that the phone is using to connect to the router. If you use a VoIP provider, the security will depend on the carrier's confiuration options, and the client application and configuration your using. Lots of variables to consider, but the NSA grabs and decodes it all regardless.

It is not that clear what it was done for, the simplest solution would be a live USB, but that would leave the OS in memory, so just removing the USB would not work 100%, unless you changed the boot settings specially for it.

BUT, you could use USB events to trigger the absolute shutdown somewhat trivially with the base coreutils and some shell script.

There are things you can do to make things a bit more secure on your end, but this will depend on the gear you have and software as well as the service provider's provisioning options. Some offer phone to server VoIP encryption, but both the softphone & the VoIP provider must have the featureset available. to be clear, when I refer to a VoIP provider, I'm referring to a big service like voip.ms or similar.

Yeah... it's really sad, too. I think it's just signs of the times. People are divided and fractured along political, religious and economic faultlines, and this is by design. It's impacting eveyone, even if only at a subconscious level. Lots of people are checked out of 'society', and are having difficulty coping with the constant flux. To be objective, people also change, age, and decide it's time for a new direction, by choice, or circumstance. It happens to all of us sooner or later. I dread the day OpenWrt get's enshittified by everything that's happening in the world. I'm already seeing packages that are not being maintained, and are several versions behind thier Linux desktop counterparts.
