you do you, op. I'll keep torrenting my music. I also do it for sound quality primarily. Streaming sites not only are paid but they also offer worse sound if you listen to old music. And I'd still have to torrent some music anyway because streaming sites don't have obscure japanese stuff from the 70s.

The first and only time I used Soulseek I apparently didn't set it up properly (or didn't understand it) but I only wanted to download an album and dip, apparently I chose my entire C drive to share and some random user messaged me telling me they had my full address, my national ID card, my CV, my work contract, my bank statements and a plethora of other personal info. They were kind enough to not do anything malicious with it but it was still scary.

Uh... well technically I've got a concoction of various amplifiers, preamplifiers, dacs, energizers and a CD player as well as a record player... and to that I plug one of the headphones of my collection depending on my mood that day or the music I want to listen to that day. I never understood soulseek. If someone shared CP they would be arrested, so you know it's being monitored you just have an unwriten contract with the feds that they won't bust you for sharing music. This contract gives all power to the feds. Hence you are engaging in a unequal relation by using it and therefore it is not free software.

It's not needed unless you want to share to every single human in the earth, but it isn't a requisite so to speak, if you are worried about people locking music for people who are not sharing don't worry, even if for some reason they see nothing, the program still counts your shares
...Now the username issue, I wouldn't know because my nick is something like dhaj83duhrud83hdhf, but I heard that lately the fucking shit had a lot of issues with login per se, apparently it's fixed now but it caused a lot of discomfort. I'm not an audiophile so take this with a pinch of salt, but I can clearly hear a difference between lossy and lossless and say 120 odd kbps and 800. If I download an album from yt vs buying it the difference is night and day. I don't claim to know all the reasoning behind it and don't really care. Also clearly the DAC in different makes a difference that is obvious just again from using your ears.
