GNU Ice Cat vs. Firefox
>has LibreJS so you can safely use javascript without having to resort to '90s-era neocities websites
>lets you access cloudflare websites like 4chan without the MITM rape
>is FLOSS and not pooprietary horseshit like regular Firefox is now
Why not install Gentoo you flaming homosexuals?

Can it handle uBlock origin and other extensions?
Anonymous No.106198570 [Report]
>>106198554
if you enable ublock it crashes your computer. The cat does not like it, makes him uncomfortable.
thank you for the understanding.

it's based on firefox so yeah you can install any firefox extensions.
Better make sure they're libre extensions or someone will beat you up.

It uses SpyBlock, modified from AdBlock
It says ads are acceptable, if they do not result in spying on the user

No it doesn't.

When Librewolf was first released, I always wondered why the team just didn't start to release more frequent updates to this instead, or. I mean, it's the original non-spyware Firefox fork. There's literally no need to create another one..

I don't think that's the goal of this project. Librewolf actually does hardening to firefox. Icecat just cares about removing proprietary blobs, both in-browser, and hosted on webpages you visit.

Originally it was mostly due to the license with Mozilla's assets and name(s). Debian had its own fork for a while.
LibreWolf is just a custom profile so you can copy the changes to whatever Firefox-adjacent browser. May as well use Arken.

I usually just use a user.js file. Not Arken though. Firefox comes preinstalled in most distros so it's easier to just copy a file and having most of the things you need preconfigured exactly how you need them.
I'd use gnu/icecat though if I had easy access to it 'cause I'm a librefag and love me some gnu.

Arken is a user.js, it just comes with some/most of the changes LibreWolf has, so that's why I said it may as well be a better option for simplicity.
It not having official binaries is well, a shame, but it's not exactly hard to compile it. There even is some unofficial builds.

I'm on Pale Moon. How do I install Gnu IceCat?
Anonymous No.106201700 [Report]
this shit doesn't work on Linux Mint. the tabs crash constantly and no sites load

On Terminal, type this (assuming on Debian/Ubuntu based systems):

sudo apt update
sudo apt install icecat

I installed this via the arch aur and it took hours and hours to build, would not recommend doing it that way

breaks 99.9% of websites, doesn't have libredirect and cannot run leta

librewolf went on to become a mess, now its making too many unsolicited calls without user input, just by launching it. im moving on; trying ice cat now and it has been a pleasant experience.

how to fix SSL_ERROR_PROTOCOL_VERSION_ALERT errors in Gnu IceCat fellas?

Compiling everything yourself is a meme.
>>106198554
>>106201878
It's Firefox so yeah. Ublock itself is actually available as a standalone package in both the AUR and regular Arch repos. Libredirect works fine. I actually disable the pre-installed extensions they cause some sites to break kek.

No idea, pretty weird actually. I forgot to mention I use the arkenfox user.js, overall it's still less shit of an option than regular Firefox. I've heard Iceweasel exists too, but I've no idea if it's just rebranded Firefox or an Icecat equivalent.
Anonymous No.106204743 [Report]
It broke my config last month. Maybe 2 months ago. Fuck you, Icecat.
