Path tracing just creates a need for AI-trained upscaling and (multi) frame generation, the parts of the GPU that NVIDIA wants to focus on.
It's not a practical setting until gaming consoles are powerful enough to use it.

Not him but oled-firmware-schizo here
ton of monitors have the 4 hour pixel reminder that can pushed up and changed in most osds to 16 hour before the mandatory refresh hits right, msi put out a firmware that pushes it up to 24 h before a mandatory one is forced
I have not tested and nobody has actually confirmed if the monitors that allegedly don't have this can be run for 16h+ straight without any forced restart

you might not think this is a problem, this seems fine no? wrong. the problem is that these "counters" don't work correctly and are sometimes buggy and don't reset. which means they might not trigger a refresh at correct shut down or might not reset to 0h, which means you might start your screen and some how the counter is at say 15h now you use your screen 30min before the fucking refresh hits
this is absolutely deal breaking cancerous shit, I cannot understate how bad this is, this has destroyed tons of budget monitors
it has been my quest since being a victim of this to shit post about this or find a monitor that does not behave like this, since most tvs don't behave like this, phones don't behave like this, laptops don't behave like this, I don't think any other oled device behaves like this

pic relate, msi even pats themselves on the back that they "solve" or make less cancerous a thing they introduced.
people claim this is a mandatory push from samsung (panel makers) or lg or some shit, it's clearly not, maybe it's a recommendation? maybe. but the 16h forced refresh is clearly not some forced shit. if they can push it 24h they can push it to 0 and never force pixel refreshs. the only point they keep this in is a last stand safe guard for retards that never shut their monitor down and cut down on RMAs for the 3 year burn in warranty. It's still shit and anti consumer, however.

I got oled fatigue, If I test Asus' monitors later and they behave like this I might just give up, or just suck the cock and cope with this bullshit.

SN7100 has the same TBW endurance rating (1200 TB for 2TB) as the SN850X, 900 TB for a 2TB SN5000.
Performance difference only matters for power users.

What's your current setup? 9 times out of 10 if someone has to ask if they need to upgrade they really don't need to atm and should wait. The next big X3D chip will double the CCD count to at least 12 cores from 8 as well as redesign the IOD which should help with latency. Also they may up core clocks to near 7Ghz with the node jump so it'll likely be a bigger performance increase than usual or at least was the case from the 7800X3D to 9800X3D because vanilla Zen 5% was a waste of everyone's time.

Thank god it's still gonna be on the cheap/available AM5 socket. When Zen 7 likely premieres on AM6 w/forced DDR6 memory it's gonna be a trash fire of unsellable chips like the Ryzen 7000 series was that similarly forced everyone to use what was then slow and expensive DDR5 memory vs. the alternative Ryzen 5000 and Alder Lake processors.

Might as well ask here too:

I bought a 96gb SODIMM Crucial RAM kit (CT48G56C46S5) for a laptop, and I've read those or even just 64gb kits can have overheating issues in laptops, so I'm wanting to verify the temps

I've tried to use HWINFO, CPUID's Hardwaremonitor, and AIDA64, and OCCT's benchmarking tools to view it's temps, and even memtest86, but unless i'm missing something (and to be clear, I very well may be, I'm stupid and ignornant) I can't seem to get any of them to display memory temps (Hardwaremonitor didn't display any memory info at all)

Clearly Crucial's 96gb and 64gb kits CAN read out their temps, because the posts I have read about their heating issues includes specific temperatures and people benchmarking and reading them out with Aida64 and HWinfo, so I'm not sure what's going on here, unless A: the specific CL timing variant I have just doesn't support it or B: the ability of those software to read the temps depends on what the laptop's bios supports, and mine happens to not support it.

Anybody have any advice?

If it's not possible to get a temp readout with this, will I likely be unable to with say a gskill kit either? If I decide to just wing it and continue to use the kit and it does turn out it's running at like 110c under load or some shit like I see some people say theirs does, does that have the potential to damage other components or the memory slots too, in addition to the RAM itself, or can I just run the RAM into the ground until it breaks and replace it with a new set if I'm fine spending the money doing that?

It'll be worse on DDR6 unless they switch to a different hardware format like CAMM. If memory bandwidth is that important to your work you should consider Threadripper/Xeon for quad channel.

Unlikely. Maybe accelerate wear if there's a capacitor or something /right/ next to the chips. Since it needs to be user-accessible this is also unlikely but you can check that yourself.

You can measure the temperature yourself with a probe/FLIR if you have one.

>Anything I should look out for or be prepared for?
I would raise memory training voltage to 1.45 and disable memory fast boot, before plugging new planks in. Then see if they would work at 6000MHz CL30 together with your old ones, at whatever it is DRAM voltage you have now.
If it boots fine - run couple of passes of bootable memtest86 from flash drive, then run AIDA64 stability test for an hour, then play some modern game.
If they don't boot, you might need to try to tweak voltages. DRAM V = VDDQ CPU = 1.45 upper safe daily limit, VCCSA 1.20 (if you have Intel).

If this still doesn't help, you might have to relax the timings. E.g. I had 8 sticks of DDR4 3600MHz CL16, and after plugging 3733 CL17 sticks, I had to settle on 3600MHz CL17 because CL16 was not stable under safe voltage.

This might have nothing to do with your 2nd kit not matching 1st kit. Just 128GB of RAM in 4 sticks is a bit tough on any memory controller, even 2x64GB would be.

So you need to be prepared to sacrifice some latency/speed with any kit, not just one you have.

Good luck.

Considering the new consoles that are coming in another year and a half or something, in my head 16gb now = 11/12gb in 2018/2019. 12gb now = 8gb in 2018/2019
Stop being autistic and just buy a new card every 2/3 gens. Vram is never an actual issue that way.
Took until late last year for games to come out with an actual requirement for more than 4gb at 1080p (talking just playing the game without insane stutters or framerate). 8gb in 99% of games still doesn't even require too significant of a compromise at 1080p (on Nvidia anyways, but don't buy a new 8gb card still just to be clear)

having a low color gamut was the worst thing I ever knew not only does it make the image more dim due to not the same color brightness but it also just looks like shit and blobs images together quicker if you wanna saturate things, not that you need to if you have insane saturation to begin with either

>they have bad coil whine and fan whirring
is this an actual issue for people who build their pc on their own? I thought pretty much everybody undervolts nowadays, what with being able to bring down power draw (ie temps and noise) by a fuckton at the cost of like 3% performance (lmao even)

Yeah you can always spend a lot more to get a card with far fewer performance and less software reliability on three major OS in the world, that's why Nvidia exists. The real answer to the overpriced 5000 series, however, is AMD. You already bought the AMD CPU for SAM so why settle for REBAR driver issues?

And the 5080 is a garbage card.
You're supposed to buy a 60/70 (or ti) every 2-4 years, selling the old one to cover most of the upgrade cost.

doesn't matter. there's no consumer greater than 8 core cpu on the market. The dual ccd ryzens would suck for gaming because of the chiplet latency.

does anyone have a 27" 4k monitor? How much better does it look than 1440p?

i've been lusting after one for awhile but I haven't convinced myself to pull the trigger yet.

>download malware from f95
>okay lets be adult about this and reinstall windows instead of hoping for the best
it went fine but its draining
I just wish windows wasnt such a piece of shit about things
Google makes things easier with its convenient account settings. I dont need to care about exporting bookmarks for example, but microsoft only puts hurdles in your path with their mandatory acc shit and promotions

I do cause I need a mac for work and macs are autistic about displays

honestly not a lot, even those super dense ones like 27" 4k. I'd buy a 32" 4k instead if I could be bothered.

Heasets like the quest 3 can play games standalone at worse res / fps than dedicated rendering pc. Other than that, you need a wi-fi 6 router in the same room as your headset to stream to it from your pc.
I got a wi-fi 7 access point from zyxel for it and it works.

does the 4k res get rid of aliasing at 27"?
I also wonder if spotting people in the open world fps games at distance would be better with it.

I've been playing through deus ex mankind divided and I had to turn on AA because the jaggies were annoying me.

They just have total randos upload file link visible only to mods, the mods then put that shit up if they fail to notice a virus.
Then you see messages like
>Version 0.09 was infected with a LummaStealer. The Infected files where public from 2025-08-13 T05:52 AM - 2025-08-13 T11:42 AM (GMT). If you downloaded the game in that time please make sure to scan your system and change Passwords. For more info Read here: Recent Malware Infected Games. The current links are fine.

I guess you can run sandboxie too but its not fun.

Micro def warned about a trojan
After seeing the message and I dl'd malwarebytes and that removed some file in appdata folder the game created + blocked some website.

Im not sure since Im not a mod there but maybe that particular pattern didnt trigger MD when a mod ran the game but it then gets patched after the file is reported?

I dont know honestly. Lots of people share just links somewhere in the thread especially new versions. Never ran into the issue that any of those had anything or I simply don't know. All in all bad luck.

The viruses sometimes avoid detection by checking the date, they only trigger say 1-2 days after being uploaded

Generally you might want to wait a few days before downloading a game and check the OP if theres warnings before running it.
If microsoft defender detects the virus and you see a warning its prob fine and only the privacy schizos that blocked windows updates get infected.
